What's the big deal about Fogmore Cottage?

They are rarely in the UK. It would just sitting there empty. It makes no sense. Also, if Harry and Meghan need a home in Britain, why not buy a home?

Most royal residences are just sitting around empty most of the time too. You could complain about that..

True, they could buy a home but it's pretty mean of Charles to take away the one safe and secure property his son had in this country, to do that to his own flesh and blood, including grandchildren, that he'd paid up for. Extremely mean, actually. They deserve to be reimbursed for the work they put into it at least.

I can’t think of anything I care about less than which millionaire gets a freebie house

I would rather it wasn’t a sex offender though

rollthewindowsdown · 07/03/2023 19:58

Isn't it to do with security? Like, isn't Frogmore in the perimeter of something where there is existing high security which buying some flat in Fulham would not be comparable to?

This. With bells on

rollthewindowsdown · 07/03/2023 20:00

Some people need to leave the Royal Family topic alone given it doesn't interest them 😂

lipstickwoman · 07/03/2023 20:01

Only safe and secure house? They could stay at any of the Royal residences surely, or with family.

Skinnermarink · 07/03/2023 20:03

Can they afford a central London home? Not one in as good a location as Frogmore or grand enough, I shouldn’t think.

I doubt they have a load of family and friends biting their arms off to stay with them, in all honesty. They’d be best off getting a nice hotel when in the country.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 07/03/2023 20:03

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was because of the way they spoke about Nott Cott.

No idea, mate. I was answering the OP who asked:

"Also, if Harry and Meghan need a home in Britain, why not buy a home?"

fruitpastille · 07/03/2023 20:05

Haven't they been offered an apartment in Buckingham palace?

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't want to stay with any of the rellies. 😂Why should they when there are so many empty properties? It's pretty disgusting how stingy and punitive Charles is being. Just let them have the one they already put money into.

But in this case Harry and Megan don’t live in the UK.
They very rarely visited the UK even when Frogmore House was at their disposal.
Hardly mean to take away something that’s not being used (especially when it’s a mansion).

lipstickwoman · 07/03/2023 20:20

I don't think it's mean at all. It would be far worse to leave it empty, which it effectively is.

It's H and M's decision not to use it, no one else's.

SO224350 · 07/03/2023 20:21

Has anyone royal came out and officially said they've been evicted ? How do we know it wasn't mutually agreed as they're based in US? And all the invited / banned nonsense about the Coronation. I don't believe a word the 'palace insiders' say not the tabloids

SO224350 · 07/03/2023 20:22

Not the tabloids

SO224350 · 07/03/2023 20:22

Nor 🙄

No it was because Harry had a go at Camilla and William and kate in spare. The ongoing lease was withdrawn a day after publication but we didn't get to hear about it.

purpledalmation · 07/03/2023 20:25

I think it's a good idea for Andrew to go into it. Why he needs a great big mansion with 30 bedrooms is anyone's guess. Also cheaper as his current home needs added security which is expensive.

fruitpastille · 07/03/2023 20:05

Yes they have. And I expect that'll come with all the security they need - and then some

It makes a lot of sense. He doesn't need the house he has so he's being moved to Frogmore. H&M don't need Frogmore because they're never here so they've been offered apartments at Buckingham Palace. Seems like 2 sensible moves on Charles' part

lipstickwoman · 07/03/2023 20:31

Even putting favouritism aside it's daft that W&C have Adelaide when they have a young family, and Andrew and Harry have bigger houses.

They could "stay with family"

😂😂 priceless!

fruitpastille · 07/03/2023 20:05

Haven't they been offered an apartment in Buckingham palace?

Yeah but it's andrew's old one. Ewww...! I wouldn't want that one, it'd have to be thoroughly, thoroughly decontaminated first. Wouldn't blame H&M for not wanting their kids to stay there, yuk!

UWhatNow · 07/03/2023 20:38

“…it's pretty mean of Charles to take away the one safe and secure property his son had in this country,”

Oh please…🙄 Harry has just sold his soul for £100mill - he could buy a private island with gun turrets if he wanted…. I’m sure Frogmore Cottage isn’t the only bunker he could be ‘safe and secure’.
