What's the big deal about Fogmore Cottage?

They are rarely in the UK. It would just sitting there empty. It makes no sense. Also, if Harry and Meghan need a home in Britain, why not buy a home?

Charles is saying clearly he does not want Harry and Meghan and their children to come to the UK. I think they won't.

CathyorClaire · 07/03/2023 20:50

He doesn't need the house he has so he's being moved to Frogmore.

He's never needed it as such, just felt thoroughly entitled to it backed up by Mummy paying the utilities bill.

That's a bit of a big jump from not keeping a house empty for him, to him not being welcome in Windsor Castle, Sandringham,Balmoral, Buck House etc etc.

So he has to ask for somewhere to stay and Charles might or might not grant it. Rather than using the house he was paying a market rent for.
Charles just wants to control them. Harry is not stupid he will know that.
If I was him I would not bring my family into that toxic set up.

Where do you get that from? Harry and Meghan don't live in the UK. The way they've spoken about family and friends it's unlikely anyone in the UK wants to spend time with them (although maybe Eugenie can have them to stay). Harry complains he's short of cash so why waste money renting a property they never stay at.

Harry has slagged off his family, the institution, why would he want to stay in a property subsidised by that same family/institution? And as pp have pointed out, there's nothing to suggest them giving up Frogmore wasn't a decision made by Harry and Meghan or a joint decision with the RF.

lipstickwoman · 07/03/2023 21:18

😂😂 Why wouldn't he? And why does he have to ask Charles? There's his whole family with big houses.

Except he's shat on them too.

He is good friends with Eugenie and Beatrice.
Charles is his father. I can't imagine not putting up my kids when they come to visit.
Anyway Charles is clearly saying Harry is not welcome anyway. So Harry may just stay away.

lipstickwoman · 07/03/2023 21:24

@PosieLuton has there been something to suggest Charles has indicated they're not welcome to stay in any of the Royal residences? If so I've missed it and didn't realise they were relying on Eugenie

PosieLuton · 07/03/2023 21:25

@lipstickwoman The way Charles has treated them with Frogmore.

QueenOfHiraeth · 07/03/2023 21:27

I had also read that they had been offered a suite at Buckingham Palace and, given that Meghan was, according to the tabloids, miffed at being given Frogmore as she wanted to live in Windsor Castle, I'd have thought they'd be happy with that

lipstickwoman · 07/03/2023 21:27

In which case I must disagree. Not allowing a big house to stand empty when there are plenty of other options is a good decision in my book

PosieLuton · 07/03/2023 21:29

There are plenty of other houses left empty. At least Frogmore had a market rent being paid for it.

Brightshinylight · 07/03/2023 21:30

Andrew needs to move out of the royal lodge type place. Too big & high profile etc. Frogmore has been described at small and student like. So Andrew gets the (very nice to everyone else) cottage with the corgis who will trash it & when H&M come over to visit they get a spare room in somewhere like Windsor.

all seems quite sensible to me.

PosieLuton · 07/03/2023 21:30

Anyway, Charles has basically said to Harry he is not welcome. I wonder if he will listen.

They would not be in Windsor. William and Kate want Windsor and there is no way they would put up Harry.
Harry would be put in some workers shack somewhere.

BreadInCaptivity · 07/03/2023 21:32

I'm not sure what the issue is either given they rarely ever visit and it's a shame for it to sit empty.

Given all the £££ H has made from his book and Netflix deals I'm sure he can afford a luxe hotel suite (or floor of a hotel for that matter) if he comes to the UK (after all isn't that what all the A listers they want to associate with do and bring their own security)?

Alternatively they could stay at one of the many royal residences, though they only have themselves to blame if quite a few family members were reticent about hosting them....but I'm sure Charles could find free bedrooms on one of his 10 homes for a few nights that nobody else was using.

entirelyesspresso · 07/03/2023 21:33

A decent sized recently modernised and refurbished property shouldn't be left to stand empty - it should be put to better use. Charles will be making many changes I imagine - this is an easy problem to solve.

The Harkles can stay as guests in any of the other properties, when they visit, they've made it very clear that the UK is not home and they don't want to be here anyway. They 'fled' the UK and escaped to freedom apparently.

I just don't see the issue, of course they don't get to keep a mansion, staffed and ready in a country they don't live in.

lipstickwoman · 07/03/2023 21:34

There are houses used part time.. not sure there's many newly renovated standing empty on the Windsor estate while other family members who do live in the UK have less.

It's Harry's choice to be where he is. He doesn't need Frogmore, it's just another doll to throw out of his pram.

ginghamstarfish · 07/03/2023 21:36

Who cares? They have made it abundantly clear what they think of being part of the RF ( as long as they can keep their money- making titles, the hypocritical pair of whingers), so why would they want to come back here? Surely they can afford their own accommodation security after selling out their families.

Theunamedcat · 07/03/2023 21:40

Andrews daughters were using it when they visited anyway so it makes sense for him to go there

They were probably not paying anywhere near market rent for the cottage

It knocks Andrew off his perch cuts the bill for his security nicely puts the house back into good use rather than standing empty and they will still have an apartment should they ever visit win win I don't see the issue

BreadInCaptivity · 07/03/2023 21:42

Re: W&C I think they want to be in Windsor re: schools for the children. Not clear if they are eying up Royal Lodge or the Castle - my guess is the former if C wants A out (and as a non working royal he shouldn't be living in a mansion).

Given W&C actually live in the UK and are working royals then yes it's fair they get priority over H&M in respect of accommodation at Windsor if that's their preferred base.

Frog or even Nott Cott are far from shacks btw but it's silly them having any sole use accommodation in the UK given they've made it clear they don't want to be here. Rooms at Buckingham Palace sound secure and appropriate to me but if they don't like that they can make their own arrangements, I'm sure family would be happy to put them up....oh err, okay...hotel it is them....

Viviennemary · 07/03/2023 21:43

Because it's loss of status just like them having their bodyguards taken away. No longer entltled to grace and favour residence. That means they're well and truly out.

PosieLuton · 07/03/2023 21:43

Harry had to pay market rent because he was not a working Royal. It was part of him leaving.

Their choice though.

PosieLuton · 07/03/2023 21:44

@BreadInCaptivity At this rate William and Kate will have as many houses as Charles.
