What's the big deal about Fogmore Cottage?

They are rarely in the UK. It would just sitting there empty. It makes no sense. Also, if Harry and Meghan need a home in Britain, why not buy a home?

@purpledalmation

No it's called critical thinking - it's not so black and white

Try it sometime !

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

purpledalmation · 08/03/2023 09:54

@Novella4 I was looking for a name and my phone cover has a purple spotted Dalmatian on it. Simple.

There are plenty of other houses left empty. At least Frogmore had a market rent being paid for it.

Did it?

They paid a on-off lump sum for renovations and 18 months lease.

That expired around the end of last year. Have they made a further payment for the six months until after the Coronation?

Guis23 · 08/03/2023 09:56

It was a gift to them from the Queen. Apparently Meghan wanted to live in Windsor Castle if you please. Talk about no idea. Queen said no. That was one of her residences.
But now Charles is King he gets to decide who lives in grace and favour places. And since leaving and books and interviews, and given they hated it so very much he has decided it will be better to give it to someone else who might appreciate it more. Or is better suited to living there more permanently.
It was secure as within Windsor Great Park.
Whether they mind or not I am not sure. But it does seem to send a message just before the Coronation. Please don't come. Despite what the King might say via the newspapers.

Serenster · 08/03/2023 09:41

You are wilfully misunderstanding my posts I think Roussette.

I was making the point that under any lease the tenant won’t be reimbursed for money they have spent out of their own pocket to decorate the property they rent. You put in a brand new kitchen, the landlord gets the benefit of it when you leave and they don’t have to pay you for it. (That’s the situation the Sussexes appear to be in).

Tenants are also responsible for handing back the property in good condition. You damage it, you need to pay make it good before you leave. You won’t get that money back either. In the case so am talking about, the charity is being told by the landlord that they want the premises fully redecorated before they leave. It’s not damaged, by the way, it’s just not been decorated for a while. The charity won’t get reimbursed for that, and they’ll still have to pay their rent. That is the real world.

Serenster

You always say this, I wish you wouldn't. I genuinely do not understand what you mean. AFAIC the rent was paid up until this Spring or June. I have no idea about what they are meant to owe. You haven't sent me links so I can go off and look. And you don't answer my questions.

You call that 'wilfully misunderstanding'. I call it genuinely having no idea what you mean. Why they should owe money etc.

Roussette · 08/03/2023 10:05

Is it like a 'deep clean end of tenancy'. Is that it? My DCs have had to do that in rental properties.

I am sure H&M can manage that.

Roussette · 08/03/2023 10:07

Apparently Meghan wanted to live in Windsor Castle if you please

I have only ever seen that nonsense on here. Do you have a link for that? Somewhere where Meghan has said she only wanted Windsor Castle?

WinnieTheW0rm · 08/03/2023 10:07

tara66 · 07/03/2023 23:27

Aren't they going to be booed all the way to St Paul's if they come in May? Won't they then be the main story?

I'd like to see that!

Because the Coronation is being held at Westminster Abbey, and I can't think there will be crowds for a random trip to a different cathedral

WinnieTheW0rm · 08/03/2023 10:10

It was reported in June 2021 that they had paid for 18 months.

If they have paid up to spring or June 2023, that means they have made a further payment covering those additional 3 or 6 months?

Have they done so?
If not, they've had a free extension, which is a good deal from their pov

TrashyPanda · 08/03/2023 10:20

When the RF own or have use of 27 castles, estates etc in the UK, I'm sure they can find something for both Andrew, and indeed Harry

when Harry lives here, I’m sure they will find somewhere for him.
but as he lives thousands of miles away, he doesn’t need anywhere permanently reserved for his use.

And I don't disagree with you, and haven't since these clickbait articles of 'eviction' came out.

You say 'when'... are you thinking H&M are coming back?!

With all due respect smilesy forums by their nature means people chip in with opinions. It happens to me all the time!

I quite agree, but you asked me “if that was what I was saying”and no it was not. And I was wanting Novella to reply, which they did 😁

My use of “when” was to indicate that if in some time in the future H decided to return to live in the U.K., then somewhere would be made available for him to live in. It’s a much more concise way of phrasing the possibility of a future event.

Im not aware if Harry has given any indication that he wants to live anywhere other than his home in Montecito.

Ahhh... prophesing about the demise of a marriage then...

Harry on his own Hmm

I think you have missed the fact that I was responding directly to your statement (which I quoted) where you referred only to Harry. 😛😜🤪

you would be the one indicting the demise of a marriage.
not me.

trying to make out I was being nasty when that lies squarely with you is hilarious. Take some responsibility for your own words.

declutteringmymind · 08/03/2023 11:16

We don't know if another residence is being allocated to them. It would make sense to let them have something smaller for know and give them something else if required.

I doubt that another residence will be allocated to them. They hardly ever visit. If they do want to visit and stay in a royal residence, then arrangements can be made on a temporary basis. But I can't see how they need their 'own' home in England.

WinnieTheW0rm · 08/03/2023 11:27

If they visit, then I expect that one of the several suites in Buckingham Palace would be made available to them.

(It was good enough for the Obamas, so surely cannot be faulted!)

PosieLuton · 08/03/2023 11:28

Charles has made it clear they are not welcome. I doubt they will come and visit.

No. I've never for one minute thought that. I would've thought that was pretty obvious as I have continually on these threads criticised those that post about H&M's divorce, who will have the children, will they live in the UK, will Meghan let them go, who will Meghan marry, Bill Gates is available now, and so on. I have been vehement in calling these posts out.

So you twist my words all you like, but my views on this have been crystal clear over the years.

Viviennemary · 08/03/2023 11:53

I read they thought they were getting Frogmore House which is very grand. I can see Frogmore cottage not being very appealing compared with other royal residences.

Samcro · 08/03/2023 11:59

purpledalmation · 08/03/2023 09:49

@Samcro You have no idea what they do or don't pay. There are no published records to say what there 'rent' was, what they paid, what Charles subsidised for them, and so in. Harry said on Oprah Charles cut him off without a penny when they left, which is a lie as published crown financial accounts show he paid Harry for a year after they left. If you have a genuine source to show what they paid, what Charles picked up the tab for and all finances around FrogCot then please show them.

Either way it makes far more sense for Andrew to downsize and lose individual security and therefore save the country money.

no I don't that is true. that is why I asked.

No twisting that I can see.

If you say "Andrew and Harry" then of course people will think you mean those two people

Charles hasn't made his view known at all. And I can't think of anything he's said that is other than welcoming a much-loved branch of his family
