Prince Harry reveals that he killed 25 people in Afghanistan. He did not think of the 25 as ‘people’ but as ‘chess pieces’

Of all the idiotic and stupid things to say this has to be his worst yet. I have some close members of my family in the forces and none of them ever discusses whom they may have killed in conflict, no matter the circumstances.

This is a massive no no. I honestly believe he has crossed the line on so many levels now. Next time he cries about his security he needs to have a long hard think after this.

I'm in awe at his stupidity now 😳

This is going to be disastrous for him.

Edinburghmusing · 05/01/2023 15:44

Oh I clicked on this thinking it was a joke post. Is this serious? Bloody hell.

how is is this going to fit into their wellness branding?

JenniferBarkley · 05/01/2023 15:44

You know, I enjoy the gossip and them all making idiots of themselves, but I do tend to forget they all willingly signed up for the armed forces. Ugh.

snapdragon12 · 05/01/2023 15:46

he was already a huge target for terrorists before this incredibly stupid comment

NowDoYouBelieveMe · 05/01/2023 15:47

Isn't that what soldiers are paid to do? Go into other people's lands and kill them?

I'm more offended by that fact, than by one soldier's honesty.

Lockupyourbiscuits · 05/01/2023 15:49

I was concerned he would mention his time in Afghanistan as a security risk
Even I didn’t this he would be stupid enough to claim he killed 25 people
If I was Meghan I would be absolutely livid
He has banged on about keeping his family safe and now done this

I have no words

saffronrabbit · 05/01/2023 15:49

What is the doing? Making himself and his family even more if a target?

War and taking lives is not a game.

Worldgonecrazy · 05/01/2023 15:49

Part of soldier training is to dehumanise the enemy, so unsurprising really. Weird that he counted them though.

Missing the point entirely I think you left it in Australia. 🙄

I seriously worry for his state of mind and his judgement.

Ostryga · 05/01/2023 15:50

That’s literally the point of the army. Thousands of men and women have killed people because it is their JOB. They are taught to think like that so it can hopefully stop the fucking awful trauma of killing someone.

Just say you’re ignorant and go away.

StormzyinaTCup · 05/01/2023 15:50

If you are worried about your family's security then know when to keep your mouth shut.

Boulshired · 05/01/2023 15:50

Ex military and I’ve never heard anyone talk about numbers, why would someone already a high security risk do this.

What's the point I'm missing?

LadyKenya · 05/01/2023 15:51

Does anybody honestly think that those being trained for combat are taught to think of the 'enemy' as people, the same as them?

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/01/2023 15:51

I'm normally #TeamHarry but WTF? What about the people who served with him who don't have 3mill in security?

And the ones in the top job have others do it in their name...

Miriam101 · 05/01/2023 15:51

I can't read the piece as paywall but, aside from the undoubtedly unpalatable notion of human beings as "chess pieces", what's wrong about being honest about what war is? That IS what war is: killing and wounding for strategic purposes. Maybe if more people were honest about that we would think more carefully about going to war in the first place.

anonymousMuse · 05/01/2023 15:51

I worry seriously about him. His mental health must be absolutely in tatters to think that any of this behaviour is normal or acceptable. When the rose tinted spectacles fall from his eyes I don't know that he will cope with what he sees.

Yes but counting them/keeping score is a bit psycho isn't it?

ShirleyPhallus · 05/01/2023 15:52

I can’t believe he would actually know the exact number?! And I don’t think I believe it either, I thought it was pretty well known that the tours he did were a bit of a Disney version and he was kept safe the whole time

Yep, and wasn't the Queen the head of the armed forces when Harry was killing people?

How apt.

It probably helps with the job.

No, he trained and worked like everyone else. Has seen and done worse things than you I’m sure. And now he can’t even talk about it because people like you spend all their time going to town on him. Get a fucking hobby. Why don’t you join the army?

rumship · 05/01/2023 15:54

@Ostryga People in the forces rarely discuss how many they have killed or the details, it part of military life. We all know they have a job to do but comments like this seriously endanger all your past and current colleagues.

It also puts a pretty big target on your back and is very crass.
