Prince Harry reveals that he killed 25 people in Afghanistan. He did not think of the 25 as ‘people’ but as ‘chess pieces’

Of all the idiotic and stupid things to say this has to be his worst yet. I have some close members of my family in the forces and none of them ever discusses whom they may have killed in conflict, no matter the circumstances.

This is a massive no no. I honestly believe he has crossed the line on so many levels now. Next time he cries about his security he needs to have a long hard think after this.

I'm in awe at his stupidity now 😳

The same military that has responded to ebola outbreaks, the same.military that steps in when we have floods, NHS strikes, fire brigade strikes. The same military that carries out many humanitarian missions and peace keeping missions without firing a single rifle.

Military intelligence that keeps us safe every single day in the UK from threats of terror.

Yes all terrible people 😂

MissMarpleRocks · 06/01/2023 22:12

Vladmir some of my family fought for Cyprus’s independence from Britain & were killed.

Why bear grudges for things that others did before you. I’ve benefited from their fight & for them coming to Britain. I’m proud to be British & Cypriot.

I don’t even hate the Turks for invading Cyprus in 1974 & making a lot of my family refugees. What for? Who does that help?

Your anger & bitterness will not do you any good & will eat you up.

And if you can’t just take your hatred elsewhere it’s not for here when people have family who’ve served & are currently serving.

VladmirsPoutine · 06/01/2023 22:17

Yes all terrible people 😂

I'm glad you acknowledge this simple truth.

And I’ll tell mine that he’s a terrible person for risking his life defusing IRA bombs and saving countless people from being blown to smithereens.

Xenia · 06/01/2023 22:34

I am very glad in the UK we are free to criticise others, but I don't share the anti military view of VladmirsPoutine. We are very lucky to have brave British soldiers to protect us here in the UK. They are some of the best soldiers on the planet.

He should have taken better advice before putting that part in the book. It is fairly easy to say he saw active combat without saying he killed 25. Also does his contract with the army allow him to disclose those details?

He's no longer serving, and though in theory interviews about operational matter should be cleared, in practice this doesn't happen about past, concluded campaigns when no sensitive operational information is disclosed. That people were killed in Apache strikes isn't remotely sensitive, and the number of kills attributed to one airframe isn't either

Of course I think he's an utter dick for saying it, but I don't think anyone would consider it actionable.

And presumably his 2013 interview was authorised. The only new info is the number of the dead

I find the reverence of the military very bizarre. To me it's a bit like saying at least Hitler donated to the local abandoned dog's charity Confused

You fool. The very fact you can sit safely, mouthing your stupid opinions, protected by our Freedom of Speech rules, and the fact you can sleep safely in your bed tonight is ultimately because of our armed forces. Fool.

VladmirsPoutine · 06/01/2023 22:57

@TheRedLip The most bizarre thing about your post is that you call me a 'fool' in writing but crossed out 'stupid'.... OK.

VladmirsPoutine · 06/01/2023 22:58

Seems I triggered the 'army wives' clan. Ooops

TheRedLip · 06/01/2023 23:02

Yes, try and deflect attention from the very real points I made.

Yes, try and deflect attention from the very real points I made.

No your points are actually false. Your imperialist army is not the reason why free speech exists in this country (to the minimal extent it does) nor the reason I can apparently sleep safely in my bed. I can wax lyrical about how and why that's wrong and the essential arguments behind why the military is not a force for good but then I've already expressed my feelings behind it. Trying to argue with a toddler about why a mars bar does not a good dinner make will not change their resolute position that the mars bar is in fact the best possible dinner option. Enjoy your parades though!!

I am worried about harry to be honest , it doesn’t sound like his mental health is doing well .
I think being his age and acknowledging to himself he has probably killed 25 people must be dreadfully hard . ( I say this with a child and a son in law In our armed forces )
He did 2 tours , I accept he may have been shielded but soldiers talk .
i think using the press as therapy is dangerous .

I think he feels he can confide in the press .. always a mistake as they spin to get readership .
He is being slagged off left right and centre .. when In reality I don’t think he is a particularity bright young man and sadly trusting and vulnerable .

I agree with other posters his openly acknowledging he did this puts him and his family at risk .

PerfectYear321 · 07/01/2023 00:24

The press have twisted his words as usual. Here is what Harry wrote in his book.

Funny how they sang the praises of this guy twitter.com/mrjamesob/status/1611352610996457473?t=falUxb9BLnhcbb2j8OBLUQ&s=19

but when it's Harry it's bad 🤔

Coxspurplepippin · 07/01/2023 00:27

PerfectYear321, yes, that's been widely published - he's obviously reflected on his service. But fgs you still don't publish that you killed 25 Taliban.

And you think it's normal the media are siding with the Taliban?

Coxspurplepippin · 07/01/2023 00:40

They're not siding with the Taliban. The media (and let's be honest, the armed services) are saying he's an idiot for going into that sort of detail.

This is a fair point about Harry being treated differently. But given his security risks and that of his whole family this really wasn't wise.

Hedjwitch · 07/01/2023 09:00

Given how badly this book is backfiring on Harry,I genuinely worry for him. He was fragile before it came out, being mercilessly mocked ( understandably onsidering some of the " revelations") might just be the final straw.

debbrianna · 07/01/2023 10:01

I found this from the booking interesting. It's different to what has been banded about and I am not surprised that you would have to other humans in order to be able to kill them. He didn't enjoy the killing but now sees through it.

Coxspurplepippin · 07/01/2023 10:05

debbrianna, that's been posted already. Harry is obviously reflecting on his army service, but the problem comes when he starts bandying actual numbers about - it's insensitive, and given his position not just stupid but dangerous.

debbrianna · 07/01/2023 10:19

I think reading the actual book will be interesting compared to the extract. I hadn't considered reading it until saw what is being considered a snippet from the book.

Our armed forces aren't the reason that free speech exists, but ultimately they maintain the status quo which allows it to prevail.

You sound a deeply unpleasant person who is best avoided.
