Harry and Meghan's Netflix series a huge success

This series is one of the biggest Netflix shows in the US and the UK. It had 2.4 million views in the UK in the first 24 hours.
Whether you liked the show or not, it is clear that Netflix were right to back this and will make a tidy profit from it. And it helps to boost the bankability of Harry and Meghan.

We had this thread with a near identical title over the weekend. Are you the PR team? 😂

Rhondaa · 12/12/2022 16:58

I don't think it was ever in any doubt that Netflix will make a tidy profit from it Grin.

Yep, everyone's watching it mostly sniggering at the crap they are coming out with. They are the gift that keeps on giving, if you're Netflix that is.

antelopevalley · 12/12/2022 16:59

@CoffeeBoy I was really busy over the weekend so I didn't see that.

Their profit comes from subscriptions. It's yet to be determined if their sub numbers went up because of this.

Bobbins36 · 12/12/2022 17:03

Successful in making the pair of them look even more vacuously navel gazing and self absorbed if that were at all possible. No,one in any doubt this was all about the cash for both Netflix and H&M.

antelopevalley · 12/12/2022 17:04

People get subscriptions because it has shows people do not want to miss. The hype will help.

I still remember some people on here saying no one would watch it.

The thing is, it's been popular because it's about the royal family. Anything about the royals is always going to be popular.

Problem is Harry and Meghan aren't Royal any more. All of their insight is from before they left. Once they've been sucked dry of that, they will be of no interest whatsoever. It's not about them, it's about what they knew about the workings of the inner royal circle. Now they've told everyone, they have very little to offer. They aren't ever going to know anything new so what will they talk about??

I hope for their own sakes they held something back for a follow up. Even if they did, it's getting to be old news fast.

cyrila · 12/12/2022 17:06

Maybe. Maybe not. I've cancelled my Netflix subscription and I know others who have done the same.

Big drops in viewers between episodes though...

stuntbubbles · 12/12/2022 17:07

I found the first episode quite dull but mainlined the second and third and I am READY for the next drop on Thursday and whatever the Prince William stuff is about.

Don’t think the negative headlines and anti-H&M clickbait matters for H&M’s careers: it’s Netflix’s No.1 show and will have also boosted clicks for 100s of sites – whatever they want to do next, they’ll be able to; they sell. I will be interested to see how they can top this though and what they hold back on Thursday – they’ll need more material and mileage for the next show/book/film/award/podcast/whatever.

KateBain · 12/12/2022 17:08

will make a tidy profit from it

How do you work that out? Has NF published how many new subscribers they bagged?

Can't wait for the book. All those new revelations. Oh wait ...

Mysterian · 12/12/2022 17:10

Great. They just have to do a similar series each year. I wonder what next year's will be about?

toomuchlaundry · 12/12/2022 17:11

Do you work for H&M? Your posts are getting slightly embarrassing now!

antelopevalley · 12/12/2022 17:11

@LondonWolf It has only just been out for a week. Lots of people including me will not sit and binge 3 hours at a time. So we have to wait longer to see viewing figures for subsequent episodes.

Hi Meg Daffodil

MBappse · 12/12/2022 17:11

I am really keen for them to say something less vague... and why are there no follow up questions? Specifically what...Specifically who... Specifically when....are you complaining about? You want to tell us your story. We are keen to hear it... IN MORE DETAIL!!!!

KateBain · 12/12/2022 17:12

whatever they want to do next, they’ll be able to; they sell

I wonder if Harry thinks the price he's paid - losing his brother, Kate and the children - will be worth it in the end.

I don't care really but I wonder how he'll feel 5, 10 years down the line.

Rhondaa · 12/12/2022 17:13

I can't wait for the big reveal, for the names. Who lied to protect William, who? Or will it be like the unnamed alleged racist in the rf.

They really have to share the evidence. They've overegged the whole thing so much, 'they' or 'someone said' just won't cut it Prince Haz. Let's see the proof <if there is any which I highly doubt>.

queenofarles · 12/12/2022 17:13

If you just watch 70% of the first episode of any show on Netflix , it’s counted as if you’ve watched the whole season,

miri1985 · 12/12/2022 17:13

I think they've gotten a lot of attention from it but I don't think they've gotten the adoration that they were hoping for. I'm sure its changed some peoples opinion of them for the better or worse but for example they were mentioned in the opening monologue on this weekends SNL "Steve, we are like Harry and Meghan, no one is rooting for us but you'll tune in to watch anyway".

ILikeBigSaladsAndICannotLie · 12/12/2022 17:14

The problem is, what do H&M have left to sell now? People are unlikely to keep paying to hear them complain over & over about how they feel they were badly treated by the RF. And the fee NF have paid will not fund the lifestyle H&M want. H&M don't seem to be able to support themselves financially, certainly not in the way they wish to live. They want to live like royalty but have none of the responsibilty or restrictions.

I'd say I feel sorry for them - I imagine they've both been screwed over in some way or another. Harry by being born into such a position, & Megan by not really understanding what she was getting into. I'm not really sorry for them though - unimaginable wealth while so many of us commoners can barely afford to heat our houses or buy enough food. And I bet they don't have to worry about whether to go to the dentist this month because their tooth hurts or wait for a while longer, so they can replace their kid's school shoes instead.

TaraRhu · 12/12/2022 17:15

I just hope it reveals the rumours about William. He isn't as squeaky clean as he seems. His extramarital fun has been reported ALL over the world but blocked in the U.K. I wonder how that happened?

It really is rubbish that this huge bit of info that would really appall the British public (given how Diana was treated by Charles) has been white washed. But fairly minor things about Meghan and her family splashed all over the press.

Rhondaa · 12/12/2022 17:15

Mysterian · 12/12/2022 17:10

Great. They just have to do a similar series each year. I wonder what next year's will be about?

Oh god, it'll be the Queen's death and funeral. That'll be worth a 2hr special surely.

ILikeBigSaladsAndICannotLie · 12/12/2022 17:18

FWIW, I've not watched it. The trailers, comments on SM, stuff in the papers etc, is quite enough to convince me that it's an utter shitshow TBH.

ilovepuppies2019 · 12/12/2022 17:19

There was no doubt it was ways going to be great for Netflix. I don't think it will increase their bankability though. Interest in their stories relies on new material and a connection with the RF and these are dwindling resources. They can only tell their truth a few times before people will decide nothing new is coming and lose interest. I'm not sure what they'll do in 5 - 10 years. Hopefully they are investing their earnings because it's unrealistic to expect to get big new deals for years to come.
