Kate Middleton - Lucky Life

Kate really has had the life of a lot of women's complete fantasies hasn't she?

Born into a well off middle-class family

Received private education. Hobbies. Makes great connections at university eg William

Financially supported into her late 20s and beyond

Works for a few weeks at Jigsaw then never worked another job again.

Pictured clubbing and falling out of taxis when most her age were working thankless jobs.

Can pay for cosmetic surgery eg Botox and hair treatments. Has amazing clothes.

Marries a prince.

Lives in a luxurious beautiful houses paid for by the inherited wealth of her grandmother in law, her father in law, and by taxpayers.

Never done a boring / basic job in her life, has no financial worries ever.

On paper it is so much better than my life !!

I've had to grind my way out of a poor upbringing, educated on scholarships, and get into higher pay brackets like most do!

I mean I agree to an extent but I feel being a working royal would be extremely tedious at times

TheaBrandt · 07/12/2022 07:28

Maybe I’m sappy but I got such a thrill with my first pay check from a professional job. Intelligent people turning to me for advice and hanging on my every word. Feel I have made a positive difference. Buying a lovely house through my own and Dh efforts with no family financial support. Her life is infantilised . Plus my Dh a million times the man sappy Prince William is in every way!

I think there are quite a few people born into a life of privilege that many of us can only really dream of. I don’t consider myself to be ‘unlucky’ or to have had a notably hard life, although I did have a very difficult patch once, but I do remember meeting a group of young people like this about ten years ago. They were actually pleasant enough but the absolute assurance that they were wealthy and would stay wealthy was something very noticeable. I’m not sure I’ve explained that very well!

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 07/12/2022 07:29

Pretty sure I was also clubbing and falling out of taxis in my early 20s. Why would most her age be working thankless jobs?

She has a very privileged life. She also lives in a goldfish bowl. Not a life I'd want for either of my daughters.

Envy is pointless. Lots of people have better lives than me. Lots of people don't. That's how the world works.

FloresApparuerunt · 07/12/2022 07:29

Yes - she's been extremely fortunate. Much more so than I have, and I consider myself very lucky with my life and upbringing.

What's your point? I presume it's to do with Meghan, seeing as your list basically exactly echoes the one on the thread called 'Meghan - lucky life' or whatever?

Ciri · 07/12/2022 07:29

This is the same as your Meghan post. Practically word for word. Are you going to do Zara next?

Northernlurker · 07/12/2022 07:30

Yeah but 1 grey hair and it will be on front pages, there are plenty of nutters out there ready to stalk her and her kids, her life is lived in the view of billions of people and like all families they have their difficulties. There is the current unpleasantness but also her brother had significant mental health issues which will have been just as hard to cope with as in any family although granted they had the money to access support.

MintJulia · 07/12/2022 07:30

I wouldn't be KM for anything. She is effectively an animal in a zoo. She will be on show every day of her life.

I hope she copes, I think she will, but I don't envy her at all.

Tiredallofthetime · 07/12/2022 07:30

But then it’s all relative, isn’t it? I have definitely had a lucky life compared to so many, not just people in developing or war torn countries but even in this country. On the other hand, if I’d gone to Kate’s school, I’d probably have been considered a right pleb Grin

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 07/12/2022 07:31

I don't deny that she will have fewer troubles than the average working class Mum.

But:-
Never being able to give an opinion.
Never being able to just nip to collect a takeaway.
Never being able to just hoy her hair into a top knot and chuck the kids into Breakfast Club.
Never being able to take the kids anywhere without security.
Never being able to champion a cause, volunteer without it being under global scrutiny.
Never being able to gain a stone (due to global critique)
Consigning her children to a life of servitude.
No doubt worries - what if they are gay? What if they have ADHD, Autism, etc? How does that fit into the little square box they are allowed to occupy?

TheWayTheLightFalls · 07/12/2022 07:31

sh has had a lot of good fortune. But I wouldn’t be a working royal for all the tea in China. I think if you’re a nice gel from her sort of background you’d do better to marry some bloke in red trousers and go off to the cotswolds sharpish.

ChessieFL · 07/12/2022 07:31

Pippa has the better life - all the same advantages but without all the scrutiny that Kate gets.

SallyWD · 07/12/2022 07:34

Honestly - nothing about her life life appeals to me. The thought of being photographed everywhere I went is highly traumatic to me. Having my appearance, my weight, my life, my relationship, my every move commented on and analysed - no thanks!
We were poor when I grew up but I felt so loved and happy. There's no way I'd want to swap places with her.
Her life would actually be a nightmare for me!

MigsandTiggs · 07/12/2022 07:34

I wouldn't call it a lucky life at all.
She has chosen a life inseparable from a job where those who don't know her personally are free to criticise her and she cannot respond. You cannot compare it to yours OP. In many ways it's a hard life that I wouldn't wish on my worse enemy. For my part, I think she is doing a good job, especially as a wife and mother.

junebirthdaygirl · 07/12/2022 07:34

Sounds like a great life but l just saw pictures of her at another function and she is just back from Boston and my first thought was..she must be so bored of the constant dressing up/ being photographed. She would possibly have had an easier life if she had married a rich man in her circles without the royal responsibilities. She could then relax.

ComfortablyDazed · 07/12/2022 07:34

In theory, it’s an amazing life, but in practice, it’s not.

Because you left out that one crucial aspect of her life that’s unenviable.

She has no private life.

It’s sort of like - losing weight and being a svelte size 8 is so incredible simple, in theory. In practice, it’s impossible for so many people.

sausage767 · 07/12/2022 07:35

She’s lucky she has a beautiful family who obviously adore her, and loyal friends.

She gets to travel, see wonderful places and meet interesting and inspiring people.

The rest, I’m not so sure she’s lucky.

I don't remember there being a gun to her head on the wedding day.

I did not do the Meghan post.

But I found it hypocritical that much the same can be said about Kate, but only Meghan hates the hate about her upbringing and privilege.

And yes, the same can be said of Camilla, and of Zara and of Anne etc.

Britain is a class based society, headed by a monarchy, so I find it odd that it is the class privilege of a biracial American, Meghan that gets taken part, but not that of the others, all white English, who actually sit at the top of the food pile of British society, while she has left it.

This is to bring some balance.

She had a very privileged start- not only financially but also having been born into a loving family.

Her current life- not sure. I’d like the opportunities it gives her to travel, meet interesting people and to do some good. I would hate the endless scrutiny, pressure to look a certain way, lack of privacy, endless judgement from others, security concerns etc. On balance I wouldn’t swap with her, although I’m aware I say that from a position of privilege.

MusicstillonMTV · 07/12/2022 07:42

This wasn't my fantasy and wouldn't be my cup of tea - I really like having a career and respect for what I do not what I wear/how nicely I smile/staying thin.

But there is no doubt it's a cushy life. And she gets more privacy than people think - plenty of days where she has no engagements and can just chill out somewhere like the Norfolk property. No she can't easily go and do the big shop without attention but who wants to do that anyway?
