Kate really has had the life of a lot of women's complete fantasies hasn't she?

Born into a well off middle-class family

Received private education. Hobbies. Makes great connections at university eg William

Financially supported into her late 20s and beyond

Works for a few weeks at Jigsaw then never worked another job again.

Pictured clubbing and falling out of taxis when most her age were working thankless jobs.

Can pay for cosmetic surgery eg Botox and hair treatments. Has amazing clothes.

Marries a prince.

Lives in a luxurious beautiful houses paid for by the inherited wealth of her grandmother in law, her father in law, and by taxpayers.

Never done a boring / basic job in her life, has no financial worries ever.

On paper it is so much better than my life !!

I've had to grind my way out of a poor upbringing, educated on scholarships, and get into higher pay brackets like most do!

Same response for me as the Meghan one: not much for me to envy here.

I have meaningful work that makes more of a contribution to the community than any royal. I support myself and have always done so.

These are good things. I wouldn’t want to swap.

Being. Royal would be v v boring IMO

You get to meet amazing people who’ve done amazing things, with your unearned status. (Although I guess married ins did something, at least, to earn their status 😅)

If you are a sociable person, talking to a factory owner in Leeds will be quite interesting, as is speaking to accomplished people from a variety of fields. I think meeting other celebs would be the least interesting, tbh

If you arent very interested in people I guess it’s not a job for you tho

Film premieres
Front row seats at Wimbledon and the FA Cup final
Travel the world
The chance and funds to pursue your passion projects and perhaps make a difference
Meeting people like Obama and David Attenborough

Doesn't sound boring to me!

Ah, yes, but you can't do those ordinary things that, apparently, people value so much.
Like nipping out for a pint of milk, ordering a takeaway or meeting friends for coffee.

Admittedly, I don't get why nipping out for milk is such an important thing and I don't see why they can't get a takeaway or why she can't meet friends for coffee.

She also, apparently, hasn't got freedom of thought - again, I don't know why.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 08/12/2022 08:11

"But that's the thing @MadameSzyszkoBohusz . You have a nice life. Plenty of people don't have what you have and so the life Megan and Harry are moaning about, would be a dream come true to millions!
Obviously, no one has a perfect life all the time and no doubt there are aspects of royal life which are tricky. But there is also so much which is great and there should be some appreciation of that."

This is absolutely true, and of course privileged people shouldn't be whinging about how hard it is, especially at the moment when it's so hard for many.

Still though, even when I was living in fairly miserable circumstances, I think I'd have been unwilling to marry into the royal family. Not that I was in any danger of doing so!

upinaballoon · 08/12/2022 08:18

'meeting other celebs' I believe PP said that they are not celebs, that their job is to serve the people. I believe he also said that when the late Queen was at an engagement she engaged with the people she was meeting and didn't look at the cameras, except of course when she was required to, for an official photo. I think Catherine has been taught this and understands what is required. Let's face it, it takes less than 15 seconds to explain that lesson to a newbie.

Coxspurplepippin · 08/12/2022 08:28

upinaballoon, I think that's a good point. From abroad, the RF must look like celebrities, with the frocks and the galas and pomp. It's also the way the press are inclined to report. They don't generally show pictures of Prince William visiting a widget factory in Stoke so much, but a film premiere in London and they're all over it.

I'm sure Meghan thought the role was more that of a glamorous film star than one of duty, and Harry could/should have certainly done the job if explaining, no matter what she might see online or in the tabloids, the job was about celebrating other people's achievements and shining a light on other people's work rather than being centre stage yourself.

JamSandle · 16/12/2022 11:31

Her life does sound amazing but equally it's not one I'd want. You've listed the privileges. There are also many disadvantages.

WestCorkGal · 16/12/2022 11:46

If I were kate I would be terrified and guilty every day to look at my children knowing I was training them for the same life. One day one of her children might face struggles and see no option but to do a Harry and then have to face the wrath of the press and public opinion like H.
The Dutch crown princess has had to leave her halls of residence at Uni and move home due to security threats. At 18.
Yes its a privileged life in many ways but its a golden prison.
Kates family wrapped her in cotton wool during the long courship and she had many years to adjust to the role. Her parents played a long game. that approach kept her safe and grounded as she endured the waity katey years.
She looks very stressed this week i think.

Coxspurplepippin · 16/12/2022 11:49

Not surprised she looked stressed when her bil, with who she always appeared to have a great relationship is behaving like a spoiled child.

AnnunciataZ · 16/12/2022 12:14

When was the last time William or Kate visited widget factories? They're almost always given the more glamorous assignments and leave it to Princess Anne to open civic centres in Milton Keynes or inspect sewers in Skegness.

If I was a royal I think I'd prefer the widget factories and sewers - getting to have a laugh with people at their work and see/try out interesting things.

I wouldn't be KM for anything. She is effectively an animal in a zoo. She will be on show every day of her life.

I hope she copes, I think she will, but I don't envy her at all.

I agree.

It's not a life I would want.

ImAvingOops · 16/12/2022 12:49

But it is a life she chose. It's lucky to be able to live a life that you chose

AnnunciataZ · 16/12/2022 13:16

I agree @ImAvingOops plus she gets plenty of time off. She's not on show every day of her life, just when she has public engagements. And that's maybe what? Maybe 6/7 times a month? She tends to disappear for the entire summer and school holidays and the press more or less leave her and her family alone at those times.

Diverseopinions · 16/12/2022 14:44

It's never nice to have enemies - especially those whose sponsors have deep pockets for any dirt that can dished.

Poor Kate. She's done everything right as a Royal bride, has never put a foot wrong and she has the power of Netflix, for goodness sake, pumping slick productions to drag her down.

BeckyWithTheAverageHair · 16/12/2022 15:00

Oh give over, she's barely mentioned in the documentary and currently has been almost elevated to sainthood by the British media (which is far more influential than Netflix) so I think she's doing ok!

Getpacking · 31/12/2022 15:42

Pippa Middleton is the one to envy. All the privilege and none of the official obligation. Obviously she needs to be discreet but so much more freedom to enjoy her wealth how she chooses.

Littlepiggyinablanket · 31/12/2022 17:41

ChessieFL · 07/12/2022 07:31

Pippa has the better life - all the same advantages but without all the scrutiny that Kate gets.

Pippa is the one who lucked out in the Middleton family.

Blip · 31/12/2022 17:48

Aah MrsMaxDeWinter you must feel such a failure

Spectre8 · 31/12/2022 21:59

I dont know what I believe in terms of what happens when we die so imo this is our only life. I woukdnt say her life is lucky. If this is your only life then I want to live it freely and she cannot. She might have all those things you mention OP, but I wouldn't trade my freedom for it.
