Kate really has had the life of a lot of women's complete fantasies hasn't she?

Born into a well off middle-class family

Received private education. Hobbies. Makes great connections at university eg William

Financially supported into her late 20s and beyond

Works for a few weeks at Jigsaw then never worked another job again.

Pictured clubbing and falling out of taxis when most her age were working thankless jobs.

Can pay for cosmetic surgery eg Botox and hair treatments. Has amazing clothes.

Marries a prince.

Lives in a luxurious beautiful houses paid for by the inherited wealth of her grandmother in law, her father in law, and by taxpayers.

Never done a boring / basic job in her life, has no financial worries ever.

On paper it is so much better than my life !!

I've had to grind my way out of a poor upbringing, educated on scholarships, and get into higher pay brackets like most do!

One of the reasons that Kate has a fairly easy ride on MN while MM doesn’t - although I’m going back in time a bit here - is because Kate is one of us, at least in terms of how MN was.

Historically, your ‘typical’ MN reader lived in London or the Home Counties, had a university education - more likely to be Russell group - were fairly affluent, Boden wearing, Aga owning types.

Yes, I know some will have been from a council estate in Glasgow, just as there are probably guardian readers who are committed members of the BNP and Coldplay fans who have served time for armed robbery, but we know (I hope) what I’m saying.

Will happened to meet Kate: had he attended Durham or Oxford or Warwick he could possibly have met you. You don’t resent Kate for that because it is a compliment. The fact it wasn’t you is simply a matter of logistics - you weren’t at St Andrews, you’re a few years older/younger - but one of your own was still who was chosen to be princess and future queen.

And this is subtly reinforced with all of the PR surrounding them. Do you think it is by sheer chance Kate wears clothes from the high end of the high street sometimes? Do you think the ten year anniversary video, that so many people commented was similar to a Centre Parcs video, was just coincidence? The fact the media refer to the ‘cottage’ they live in?

I am not saying that anyone has consciously sat down and thought ‘well, will could have chosen me if I’d gone to St Andrews instead of Edinburgh’ - but it seeps into the subconscious, like all forms of advertisement.

Meghan came from left field. She was not English - and that distinction is important in itself when we bear in mind Will was at university in Scotland - she was American. She was not white, she was mixed race. She was not from a conventional private school / Russell group plan of life - she was an actress. She was not young, she was in her mid thirties. She was not one of us.

There is definitely a narrative developing that after a turbulent time for the Royals, William and Kate are the future and love one another and are devoted to one another and their children. Which is probably true, but it’s true of me as well. No one’s giving me millions for it, though.

To top it up unlike the average celebrity she has a whole institution with a long standing strong relationship with the press ensuring damaging info is sweetened or doesn't get out to the public.
Even her playing the piano is reported as if it were a rare talent.
All holidays paid for, rent, children's care, nannies, cooks, drivers, cars etc. Yet the British public are programmed to view them as working so hard. I wonder what bin collectors, teachers, builders, doctors etc with no domestic staff even after a hard day's work are to be regarded as doing.

I do envy her height and her figure. I'm sure she has to work at remaining slim, but the height and good looks are sheer chance. Even if I could afford her beautiful clothes, which I can't, I would never look as good as Kate.

I wonder if she would have chosen to marry into the royal family if she'd been short and dumpy, knowing that she would be photographed almost every day of her life.

As for living her life in the public gaze, she knew what she was doing when she chose it. People have different lives and we all do the best we can with what we have.

As others have said, comparatively speaking, most people in the UK are lucky. We could have been born, as many are, into poverty and hunger. (I mean real hunger, not the kind where you can only afford beans on toast).

Coxspurplepippin · 07/12/2022 09:32

She's not given an easy ride on MN really - look at this thread for a start - lots of pretty nasty commentary.

TBH she's damned whatever she does - does nothing, lazy, 'waity Katie', duchess Doolittle' what's the point of her.

Tried to do things - early years, Earthshot, carol concert etc, and it's what does she know about early years with her dozen nannies, she looks uncomfortable with young children, can't hold babies properly, gurns, grins, why do we need her to do a concert, hope she's learned more than 3 chords this year, she's a clothes horse, she's ugly, too thin, dresses like an old woman, no wonder her husband cheats, social climber, doors to manual, her children are robots, her children misbehave, she's racist, she's hugging a black woman for a photo opportunity, she's wearing £3000 earrings, her £30 earrings are from accessorize.

She seems like a decent, cheerful, competent woman, obviously quite bright - they don't give degrees from St Andrews out like smarties and hasn't done anything to deserve the vitriol which is directed at her.

Tiredallofthetime · 07/12/2022 09:33

Will would not have married her if she had been short and dumpy.

He needed to marry someone good looking, but in a subtle and understated sort of way. Nothing showy or glamorous or striking. Someone attractive but also ‘normal.’

I agree 100%

Kates life to crap in my eyes. Every live made is watched

Pippa on the other hand, the life of Riley. That I am jealous of.

Mybrotherssistersmothersdaughter · 07/12/2022 09:40

Imagine not being in charge of the countless photos that are taken of you but knowing if one is taken of you looking less than happy/grateful/kind, it will be used against you....

They would have a field day with me - The pictures wouldn't be worth that much though - there would be an absolute mass of them - and that's on a good day!

Nah - Kate works much harder than I would be able to. She is very, very good at her job.

Theres loads of photos of Meghan looking fantastic in that dress. I wonder why you’ve felt the need to post that one where it’s not as flattering. The photos of her in it when she walking, like the photo you’ve chosen to use of Kate, showing the split and her tanned, slim legs would have been a real comparison. Not that we should be comparing women in this way. It’s very disappointing and pathetic when people do this. Every single person has unflattering photos taken of them, even Meghan and Kate, despite them both being very attractive women.

Nasty and pathetic.

Badger1970 · 07/12/2022 09:44

Having to have armed security around your DC 24/7 doesn't sound like a life I'd want to live thanks. And I think the fact that she clearly has issues around food means that her MH isn't as good as it could be.

She gets "left alone" to a degree because William seems fiercely protective of her and their DC and the gloves would be off if the media didn't give them the respect that they seem to most of the time.

BonnesVacances · 07/12/2022 09:45

No. Her sister had/has most of those things and has a much easier life than Kate. She's not married to a prince and has to be bland and in the public eye all the time. Give me Pippa's life, but not Kate's.

Lampzade · 07/12/2022 09:46

I think Pippa has a better life.

It doesn’t matter how much she spends on posh designer clothes, MM always looks like she has been dragged through a hedge backwards.
Better in jeans.

You don’t have to demean one woman to lift up another
Meghan looks great and you know it

In my opinion , the dress , like so many designer outfits that MM wears , doesn’t fit properly. She is a very attractive woman with long legs but she consistently chooses the wrong outfits for her shape . Not her fault she hasn’t a perfect shape ( neither do I) but she really needs to employ a good tailor .

ImAvingOops · 07/12/2022 09:57

Megan is very beautiful. Kate has a body that suits designer clothes. They can't wear identical outfits and look equally as good - each has to dress (or have clothes altered) to suit them. Not that it matters - no one compares whether Harry or William look better in a suit. Men are judged more on what they say and do, women on what they wear.

milti · 07/12/2022 09:57

She is immensely privileged , and she knows it and consequently she never complains .

she is always incredibly well briefed, not just with the summary provided but deeper reading as well . She reads academic studies abc new work in the fields she is interested in and her involvement in her Early years foundation, the children’s hospice movement , action for addiction is real it’s not just fluff. She knows her stuff, when she mentioned studying at Harvard I don’t doubt she was serious . she is quite a serious person. She also goes behind the scenes, she’s just quiet about it.

She uses her power for the charity rather than using the charity to promote her own profile .

She also understands that she needs to be a blank canvas, that’s why the Queen was so successful as opposed to Charles. W&K understand that a successful monarch needs to be all things to all men , give people too much information about you and the mystery goes, you are just a normal person. She is also absolutely determined that her children will not suffer the way other royal children have.

Now that's the sort of PR I would pay good money for if I was in her position with random typos to make it look real.....😀

The words of a jealous woman. Would either of you dare to place a genuine picture of yourselves against her for comparison? I think not.... and best not!
