I can't quite remember the timings of news reports on the day. Was the Queen already deceased when the news were saying the doctors are 'concerned for her health'?

OP posts:

I think they were first concerned at around midday (possibly earlier). I was on my lunch break.

Angelicapickles1 · 29/09/2022 15:37

No the rolling news coverage started just after 1pm, MPs were told during the energy crisis debate at 12pm

Veeragall · 29/09/2022 15:46

The news announcements about concerns for the Queen's health came out at about 12.35pm.

Awful really that we were all told while she was still alive. I mean, I know she won't have known but it's a shame they couldn't have let her go in peace and then start the ball rolling.

The public would have become aware of cancelled appointments and planes containing lots of Royals .

No the announcement was earlier. It does confirm the original impression that most of the family arrived too late, though. At least she had two of her children and a DIL with her.

Oh I know, but we wouldn't have had the rolling news coverage etc without the announcement.

I'm probably being ridiculous and it was all meticulously planned. Just seems a bit off that so many people me were hitting refresh on our news feeds while she was slipping away.

It’s very hard to keep a raft of engagement cancellations quiet, still less half the family suddenly hurrying north. The courtiers had to handle the media side.

HMQ would have been unaware of all that.

TBF they couldn't exactly hide the mad dash to Balmoral by all the Royals. Better to just go with it. They had to get things going and prepare the public and for the press to at least keep some morals.

Why?

She was with loved ones. And people were expressing how much they cared. If she was aware of anything going on around her, perhaps she would have know the shock and out pouring of affection before she went.

She probably wasn't aware, so it made no difference to her anyway.

Its the family its hardest on. But that was always going to be the case and they would have been fully aware of the storm which would happen and how they'd have to deal with it.

I don't think it makes any difference.

Cookerhood · 29/09/2022 15:56

Old age & no other contributing factors? Unusual I would have thought.
My mum had
Kidney failure, frailty, COPD on hers. The kidney failure was what made the end inevitable. You'd think something must have happened on the morning of the day she died.

asblindasabat · 29/09/2022 15:59

I wonder what actually happened to her Majesty for them to be “concerned about her health” and “place her under medical supervision”

It also said she “remained at balmoral” and was “comfortable”

So I’m just wondering what was meant to have happened between lunch time when the family started scrambling to balmoral and 3.10pm when she actually died?

KatherineJaneway · 29/09/2022 16:03

It'll come out in the wash eventually.

I could see by Edward's face in the car that he already knew she was gone. Wouldn't surprise me if she died a few hours earlier than the death was pronounced.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 29/09/2022 16:04

If you look at the cause of death there is also typed b, c, d and II. This is not printed on death certs but typed by the registrar if there is more than one cause. The only cause of death they are revealing is old age but there were clearly others that have been omitted.

If it was anything like my mother, she probably slipped into a coma and her breathing started to change and slow down. The home was able to forewarn me in time for me to get there around 90 minutes before she died, and that involved a journey of around 1 hour 40 minutes.

Novum · 29/09/2022 16:06

Does the fact that "old age" is entered as a cause mean she didn't have a stroke or heart attack as was suggested at the time?

YumYummy · 29/09/2022 16:07

Has the Queen died?

Novum · 29/09/2022 16:07

Sorry, posted without seeing @AppleDumplingWithCustard's post. I guess that means that other causes certainly aren't ruled out.

I do agree it seems a bit distasteful, I’m just not sure if total secrecy would have been possible . I am sure someone would have tipped off the media.

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 29/09/2022 16:12

Does it really matter? She was very elderly and died. I know cause of death is always on death certs but even in death surely its very personal information?
My great grandmother died at 97 and old age was put on hers!

TressiliansStone · 29/09/2022 16:14

Looking at that certificate, Princess Anne was the Informant (person who turned up at the Register Office).

A loving duty for her to have done. I'm not at all surprised it was her.

Yes.

I think it was Nicholas Wichell (?) who gave it away.

Said something like that the expressions on the faces of Edward & Sophie said it all.

Whylurkwhenicanjoinin · 29/09/2022 16:14

Yes its sad all her close family were too late but its no different to us mere mortals,
Dad died at 91 last year and we werent allowed to see him in hospital during the six weeks leading up to him passing, sad for them, sad for us 😢
