Should I reopen the happy place cafe?

I'm often awake in the night, today was a lie in for me, only properly awake since 4am.

In lockdown I opened, 'the happy place café where I would make virtual breakfasts and people would come to chat.

When it was last opened my French pastry chef Florence had married Fernando the cocktail waiter.

The kitten bees are inside because it is too old but the bumble cats are in the garden as usual.

SO should I reopen or was just something for lockdown?

Re-open, please. Sounds delightful and mine's a pain au chocolat with a coffee. 😀

sashh · 11/02/2023 02:52

Morning.

Well the café is open.

The outside skating is still frozen but won't be for long. Help yourselves to coffee, tea, hot chocolate, fruit juice and water.

Florence has made a selection of croissants and pastries.

I'll be making kedgeree as this morning's special.

Does anyone have a fussy baby they want to hand over for 30 mins while they get a break?

I have a three year old who has spent the night unsettled- I'll have a look at the menu please as she's drifting back to sleep now..

sashh · 11/02/2023 04:29

Let me take your 3 year old for a tour of the kitchen? We have some bean bags and soft light in the quiet corner I'll pop her on a bean bag.

FeinCuroxiVooz · 11/02/2023 04:43

I came in to the cafe hoping for hash browns but I've caught the smell of the kedgeree and I am salivating and would love a plate of that.

I'm normally insomniac at this time of night but haven't used the WAC board because its so much easier to read and respond to all the generic stuff in active conversations.

Today's insomnia is extra fun because I probably have to do a 3 hour drive once it gets light. DC was dispatched to stay with friends this half term. was really looking forward to it. DH did drop-off last night. 2 hours after drop off DC phones me in tears, is miserable and wants to come home. a plate of kedgeree will give me the fortitude to cope.

TeaBlanketBooks · 11/02/2023 04:51

I’ll have a mug of tea please.
maybe there’s a comfy armchair I can curl up in, one that makes you feel like you are having a hug?

SwordToFlamethrower · 11/02/2023 04:56

Good morning friends, I'm here with my 12 week old so I'll have a large glass of fruit juice and a hot cup of coffee. Nice to meet you all!

Saythreehailmarys · 11/02/2023 04:59

I’ll have a big comforting bowl of porridge please 🥰

sashh · 11/02/2023 05:33

Hands out kedgeree, porridge and hot drinks.

Watch out for the kitten bees they are excited about having new people.

Yes please, this is where I can eat and drink all the things that I can't in real life - so I will have a croissant, a pain au chocolate and a pain au raisin please. Or maybe a basket of those mixed mini pastries you can getting the frozen section of Waitrose. And a large Americano please.

I'm on night 3 of virtually no sleep due to getting awful palpitations every time I lie down (god knows why, possibly a gastric thing as I've also had a bad stomach plus I'm anemic at the moment which xl won't be helping) - so am currently propped up on a load of pillows and dreading the appearance of the sun, which probably isn't that far off now 😭

MrsDoyle351 · 11/02/2023 06:44

Morning fellow insomniacs. Awake since around 3.30 - why? - just because.

I'll have a cinammon swirl please with a large cappicino.

sashh · 11/02/2023 06:51

Pastries all round then?

OP posts:
Alliwantistobe · 11/02/2023 06:56

I'll take a pastry too and a fresh coffee. Awake since 4 and been up for the last hour with 3yo.

@inigomontoyahwillcox my guess is its due to you being anaemic at the minute. Happened to me a couple of years ago. Hopefully you manage to get your iron levels up soon. Lying facing one side (I think its the left IIRC) helps.

Mogloveseggs · 11/02/2023 06:58

Florence and fernando married? I missed that!

Ah thanks - I'll try that as my neck is killing me from dozing whilst sitting up!

almondflake · 11/02/2023 07:19

Good morning, I've been awake for ages and only just found you open .
I'd love some crispy bacon with hash brown and scrambled eggs, a big glass of orange juice and a fresh latte not one from a machine that uses milk powder .
Can i sit in the corner by the window please to look at the beautiful view ?

sashh · 11/02/2023 07:27

Florence and fernando married? I missed that!

I believe it had more to do with passports / visas than love. They eloped and were quite sketchy about the details.

sashh · 12/02/2023 02:10

Morning all.

Florence has made some madeleines for those of you with a sweet tooth. I'm making bacon rolls and cheese toasties and Fernando is making a 'morning cocktail' I have no idea what that is but I advise you not to drink afterwards.

The ice rink is starting to melt so keep your little ones away - the bumble cats are acting as guards.

there is a selection of waterproofs and wellies if you want to splash around the edges.

OP posts:
LemonSwan · 12/02/2023 02:23

I will join. I am intrigued about the bumble cats and kitten bees. Do tell more please!

sashh · 12/02/2023 02:50

@LemonSwan Kitten bees are kittens the size of bees with wings. They are really sweet but can get into trouble nibbling jam tarts as they get too sticky. They mostly live inside unless it is sunny.

Bumble cats are a different matter, they are larger, live outside and they don't nibble sweetly at the edge of a jam tart they will mug you for the tart given half a chance.

If I'm not here then you are welcome to open up and make a start on the coffees.

I’m wandering past the window wondering what time you open. I know it’s only early but I’ve already completed two hours of zenning and there’s not a zzz in sight.
A nice hot chocolate with marshmallows would go down a treat. One for me and one for the giant lump of a cat who has stolen all the zzzs and curled up with them behind my knees…

sashh · 13/02/2023 02:27

Morning.

@Findyourneutralspace I hope you are asleep but if you ever wander past you are welcome to come in and help yourself.

It's fairly cold today so I think porridge from around the world so congee, oatmeal, bergoo (not to be confused with the stew type dish) and overnight oats.

Fernando has made mocktails and Florence is just finishing some croissants.

OP posts:
fivetriangulartrees · 13/02/2023 02:38

Morning! What are congee and bergoo? But don't be offended if I have a croissant instead because I haven't had a croissant for ages.

Belladonna208 · 13/02/2023 02:43

This thread is adorable, so glad to have found you. Could I order a hot chocolate with marshmallows and bad-for-me cream and extra sprinkles please?

LadyClaude · 13/02/2023 02:44

Morning! When I saw this thread and read the first post OP, I thought it was on online video group where everyone has breakfast together... I'm on my second glass of the good stuff (red wine), so I'm blaming Merlot, my new boyfriend, that I think I've just got engaged to. He's a lunatic.

May I order a bakewell tart please?
