Should I reopen the happy place cafe?

I'm often awake in the night, today was a lie in for me, only properly awake since 4am.

In lockdown I opened, 'the happy place café where I would make virtual breakfasts and people would come to chat.

When it was last opened my French pastry chef Florence had married Fernando the cocktail waiter.

The kitten bees are inside because it is too old but the bumble cats are in the garden as usual.

SO should I reopen or was just something for lockdown?

@sashh Earl Grey is just perfect, not too strong and no milk etc. Thank you.

Candlesamdyoga · 14/02/2023 04:18

I may as well have a Buck's Fizz while here
Also happy to cuddle any babies while tired mummies have a rest.
I'd like a great book to read while I sip and maybe some crumpets and honey?
Hi everyone ! I'll try not to be grumpy here. All the family are fast asleep bar me

Redebs · 14/02/2023 04:23

Sounds wonderful, until you realise it's sponsored by a baby bottle company and targeting mums who may be struggling with night feeding.
How insidious is that?!!!

The new wide awake board is sponsored by the baby bottle people. And yes, you have a point.
But this thread is an extension of one that was started a long time ago by fellow insomniacs.
Can I have a bacon sandwich please.
No coffee, I think too much caffeine yesterday might be the reason I’ve been awake since 3am. Do you do herbal teas? Do the kitten bees like cuddles?

mountsleepyhead · 14/02/2023 04:35

I've been traipsing around for ages with insomnia and a headache and not seen this place before.

Oh I like the calm ding of the bell as I enter, and the gentle hubub of café noise.

Seated please. I'm expecting DC3 so just a single shot americano for me, with milk. And I'd love a crispy bacon sandwich, with lashings of butter and brown sauce please.

You make your own bread here? How wonderful. Thank you so much.

Milliways · 14/02/2023 04:37

Any chance of a cup of tea? I’d make one myself but have broken my right arm/shoulder. Not allowed to lie down so haven’t slept the last 2 weeks. Hope to hear today if surgery is an option.
Nice to be somewhere where I’m not trying to not wake you all up!

LittleLegoWoman · 14/02/2023 04:54

I’ll make you a tea Milliways. How do you like it? Milk? Sugar?
And while I’m in the kitchen our sort our bacon sandwiches sleepyhead. Might add a fried egg to mine actually.

Milliways · 14/02/2023 05:10

Thanks LittleLegoWoman, Milk and no sugar please, a huuuge mug if possible. Shoulders get chilly out the covers here. Bacon sounds lovely but I’ll try and hang out for DH to wake later.

Been there. It sucks doesn't it? I dislocated and broke mine for good measure. I remember being propped up in the middle of the bed while DH slept downstairs on a camp bed. It was very lonely so I hope you're soon better and healing

Milliways · 14/02/2023 05:29

Thanks Candles, and yes, mine is partially dislocated too. That’s the worry as they say may be able to leave it to heal itself but I am lopsided!
Its so frustrating not having use of my dominant hand.

Emptycrackedcup · 14/02/2023 05:42

Could I please have some French toast with bacon and bananas ... and maybe an Irish coffee? It's nice to be here!

BuddhaAtSea · 14/02/2023 05:52

Morning. Got Covid, I’ll be in the garden, but if one of you could make me a huge mug of black strong coffee with brown sugar, I’ll pick it up from the steps. Thank you.

MinnieMountain · 14/02/2023 05:59

A jaffle and Buck’s Fizz for me please. I was going to swim but it’s much nicer here playing with the kitten bees.

sashh · 14/02/2023 06:04

OK I'm back, in answer to questions the original café had a different breakfast theme so eggs benedict would be served alongside other egg dishes.

Florence would be happy to teach French pasty baking, may I suggest while children attend that class Fernando can teach a cocktails class for the parents?

Please spread out, there are comfy chairs, bean bags, individual lighting on tables and don't forget the garden.

Some spring flowers are coming through, snowdrops are in bloom and the daffodils are putting up green shoots.

@Redebs
I'm not sponsored by anyone, I have been around MN for years. During lockdown I jokingly offered to pour a coffee into the keyboard for someone and it evolved into a virtual café where people could meet when that wasn't possible in real life.

I often post at unsocial hours - just do a search.

OK so no one wants a Jaffle?

OP posts:
ProperVexed · 14/02/2023 06:17

Oh go on then, I'll have a jaffle! With a black Americano please. Lots to do today!

sashh · 14/02/2023 06:24

Yay <does a happy Jaffle dance>

Cheese and ham? one americano on its way.

OP posts:
MinnieMountain · 14/02/2023 06:28

I’ll have a jaffle please @sashh .

Does the cafe still do packed lunches? I’m in the office today.

ProperVexed · 14/02/2023 06:35

Cheese and ham is perfect! Many thanks.

Captainladder · 14/02/2023 06:47

This cafe is wonderful! May I have a jaffle please, (cheese and chutney?) and a giant cappuccino? I slept terribly last night and have a day of half term sight seeing in london to get through!!!

MyOtherProfile · 14/02/2023 06:47

Bit late to the party but perhaps I'll join you earlier tonight.

Meanwhile, can I have that good news newspaper after you, @MrsTerryPratchett ? And perhaps a cappuccino to kick start my morning?

TokyoSushi · 14/02/2023 06:51

Ah the cafe @sashh such a lovely idea!

I'm on a ski holiday at the moment, so sleeping beautifully but I'm sure I'll be back soon enough for a breakfast and some kind words, its genuinely one of my most favourite threads. Thank you.

sashh · 14/02/2023 07:42

@MinnieMountain

I have not planned for any pack up but you could take an untoasted jaffle and a pastry.

<puts on a cheese and chutney jaffle>

@BuddhaAtSea

You can stay inside if you want, the advantage of a virtual café is no social distancing rules apply.

Purpleknickers · 14/02/2023 23:44

Pain au raisin and a mimosa for me please
