Poor Jason Donovan. He's still clearly so cut up about being dumped for Michael Hutchence. Kylie lit up talking about MH and didn't express any regret for hurting J. I wonder if she will feel bad when she sees how much he is still affected.

I once heard someone say that Kylie says a lot of words in interviews but doesn't really give specifics.
Big revelations:

  • return of cancer in 2021 (only given 30 secs at the end)
  • She did IVF. Didn't give any details tho eg was it just egg freezing or was it embryos, did she ever get pregnant. (Not suggesting for a minute it's any of our business but i know from my own experience you have to decide whether to do just eggs or ask your partner to use his sperm as embryos freeze better so might have been a hell of a conversation with Olivier Martinez.) I got the impression she didn't get too far with it sadly - the implication with the song lyrics being that nothing ever came into being.
Inferences I think we are to draw:
  • she took drugs with MH (not news)
  • she had a boob job in the early days. Remember how Britney got such a hard time for the same many years later!

I think documentaries about ordinary people’s lives done well. could be very interesting! People avidly watch those long lost family and recent history programs about ordinary people. What I mostly liked about that documentary was the memories about the era rather than actually kylie herself same with the David beckham one.

Yes it was very nostalgic seeing all the 80s and 90s stuff and fashions of the day.

Holidaymodeon · 31/05/2026 13:51

In my youth I looked very similar to kylie and physical shape and size too , during the time of her rising star from neighbours to pop princess (I don’t anymore though, time has been FAR kinder to her in terms of looks and vivacity !)
, I was given a very hard time, shouted at and insulted in public so many times with comparisons to kylie , I remember the tabloids at the time doing an anagram of her name as ‘ugly monkey’ and I was called this so many times, by men and women, it was shocking and scary.

Meredusoleil · 31/05/2026 16:55

Just watched the first epsiode and these are my observations:

  • Kylie was acting very coy as soon as MH was mentioned.
  • She looked so different when she stepped out with him. Like she had grown up/into a woman overnight! I think it was the short pixie cut.
  • Did Paula Yates have a similar blonde hairstyle 🤔

The short pixie cut was a wig. She can carry off any hairstyle imo though. And yes, she definitely became a woman with MH!

For me, nothing symbolises Kylie's transition from wholesome girl next door to sexy, confident woman than this song, made during her romance with Hutchence.

Last episode very emotional. Looks like Kylie went through a lot despite it being an early stage cancer 💔

I'm just so in awe of her generally positive outlook and overall love of life ❤️

I agree. I was in tears for her. Especially talking about her ivf battle.

I posted earlier in the thread and interesting to read other people ‘s thought too .

I agree with others that it was a bit of nostalgia for those of us that can remember the 80s and 90s .
Those that compared it to the Beckham documentaries also made interesting points . I only watched the first one , the David Beckham one . Again not big fans of them either, but was curious to see the first documentary . Was also nosy about where they lived etc / a bit of seeing how “ the other half live “.

I think in a way both the first Beckham documentary ( and possibly the second one which I haven’t watched ) and the Kylie documentary are similar . Similar because both Kylie and the Beckhams are still successful / very rich . They don’t need to do these documentaries necessarily to boost their profiles & make money . Most importantly both will have PR professionals in their teams and everything will be tightly curated and managed .

I think that is ultimately why these documentaries are a bit “flat “ . There aren’t big reveals , they will only reveal what they want to and what will enhance their images .

They will have tight editorial control and they will not be searing and honest accounts of their lives . Anything that is divulged will be with their permission . I think the celebrity would have to agree to some new info being released ;to tease the viewers and encourage people to watch . I would assume if you are a die hard fan , you would watch rewardless.

So I think what is missing is the raw honesty .

I watched it a good while ago, but do remember that the documentary about Bros was very good because it had this honesty ( as far as I could gauge anyway ) . I think it will also depend on who is making the documentary and how much editorial control they actually have . Will it be a warts and all account ? Which Kylie / the Beckhams ones clearly weren’t .

I can totally see why Kylie has become so private and careful of her image , as we saw how she was hounded by the tabloid press . So I don’t necessarily agree with those , who have said that she wouldn’t be interesting in real life . I suppose it would depend if she showed her true self or was still showing her public image .

@Holidaymodeon that must have been very hard for you . I think if asked , most females would have loved to look like Kylie , as she was stunning in her twenties in particular . Your experience also showed the downsides to this as well .

I think we think in the era of social media / twitter / X etc that people are more unkind , as they can hide behind a phone / keyboard . However from recent threads there has always been an element of people mouthing off in real life - especially but not exclusively men to women . The ;“ cheer up love it might never happen comments “ etc .

Thank you that’s kind.
This many years past but nobody would believe how those sorts of things affected me, I made a point of ’dressing down’, none or very subtle make up, tried to tame my hair and just not stand out. I’m mixed heritage too so the insults were multi level!
I could never understand what I was doing to bring out such hostility
Look back sometimes at pictures of myself, I was genuinely beautiful but so under confident and covered from neck to toe a lot of the time, what a waste of my beautiful figure, I never really felt able to blossom or bloom and I never appreciated my figure or looks etc & then hard life and disability took over and those things are long gone but nobody is shouting at me in the street anymore, insults or compliments!

I am loving the early Kylie back catalogue. Frankly she doesn't play enough of these songs live at her concerts.

I should be so lucky was the first song I bought on tape. I didn't even know the words, I remember someone singing it in the school changing room, I thought it was something about ducky in dove.

I'm honestly not sure there is much more to Kylie or Victoria Beckham than we see.

Kylie was so young when she got into pop, her personality and identity is fused with the performing. I don't know if there is a 'Kylie' outside of the work and performing, other than chilling with family.

I think this thread has become as boring as Kylie. A repetition of the 3 facts known about her.
Shes a good performer
She loved dating MH
Shes had a rough ride with cancer and nasty reporters.

Thats it- no one knows anything else!

She's a gay icon and had fertility problems so no dcs. Is very close to Dani's dcs.
Kylie obviously had a wonderful childhood and no trauma there from what I can gather? Isn't on drugs or an alcoholic. Has had cancer twice which must have been dreadful.

The tortured souls with the wild stories might be entertaining to us but they've had very unhappy lives. Her unhappiness hasn't been caused by self abuse.

The public and media were very cruel to her and she bounced back. Hopefully she isn't reading this thread.

Good post. I agree with all that. These 'documentaries' are basically just PR. NF profit because there is a guaranteed audience, in that the celebrity's fans will all watch even if it's not great. The celebrity profits financially presumably, but also by getting an 'official' version of their story out, even if it's posing as a 'documentary'. No wonder such programming is popular.

I haven't seen the Bros documentary, but an excellent example of such content is the 2019 film 'Mystify Michael Hutchence'. It was made by Richard Loewenstein, who not only was a professional film maker but also a close personal friend of Hutchence. The film was sympathetic but didn't ignore Hutchence's flaws. You come away from watching it feeling that you've got a real insight into who he really was. That's not the case with 'Kylie' and these other NF puff pieces. Maybe Kylie just isn't that interesting. Maybe she's just hiding her real self from the public. Either way, we're none the wiser from this 'documentary'.

Interesting, I will check out the Michael doc.

Oh one thing Kylie didn't talk about was pervy old men when she started out - I hope there weren't any but find it hard to believe.

@TheOliveDreamer I’ve just found the documentary available to watch on YouTube! So thank you for that @IcedPurple

I was such a huge INXS fan. The thing I loved the most was that they had the same line up for 20 years, which is very unusual in the music industry. You could see just how much these guys loved each other.

VanillaImpulse · 01/06/2026 15:19

It was horrible how Cat Deeley was asking her about kids when she was just recovering from cancer! It’s like “read the room!” 😩

I agree. They were like brothers (I mean 3 of them were, but even so!). They took their music very seriously and worked their way up to the top. They'd been together for 10 years before hitting the big time. I loved MH & INXS and was devastated his sudden passing. It's a great documentary

Yes. She's always been a pretty crap interviewer imo.

I also remember Paula Yates interviewing KM on that famous Big Breakfast bed and asking her if she'd ever slept with Prince! KM very politely skirted around the question

I agree - so insensitive. And Kylie looked so upset but smiling through her tears. I would have given Cat a sharp shrift. She should have known better and I hope she’s ashamed of herself.
