Poor Jason Donovan. He's still clearly so cut up about being dumped for Michael Hutchence. Kylie lit up talking about MH and didn't express any regret for hurting J. I wonder if she will feel bad when she sees how much he is still affected.

I once heard someone say that Kylie says a lot of words in interviews but doesn't really give specifics.
Big revelations:

  • return of cancer in 2021 (only given 30 secs at the end)
  • She did IVF. Didn't give any details tho eg was it just egg freezing or was it embryos, did she ever get pregnant. (Not suggesting for a minute it's any of our business but i know from my own experience you have to decide whether to do just eggs or ask your partner to use his sperm as embryos freeze better so might have been a hell of a conversation with Olivier Martinez.) I got the impression she didn't get too far with it sadly - the implication with the song lyrics being that nothing ever came into being.
Inferences I think we are to draw:
  • she took drugs with MH (not news)
  • she had a boob job in the early days. Remember how Britney got such a hard time for the same many years later!

Yes i thought the same. She didnt really go into detail about OM when that was probably one of her more serious relationships, and one in which they attempted ivf. Maybe that was too difficult to talk about....

Maybe that was too difficult to talk about....
Yes which I think is the problem with the documentary. It tells us nothing we don't know it just saturates the viewer with footage from the 90s.

I have to admit I'm dubious about her relationship with MH seems a bit one sided. Reminds me a bit of the Chris Evans/ Billie Piper pairing although age gap not as big.

Delatron · 29/05/2026 14:17

She was with Olivier twice as long as MH, She attempted IVF with him and he was with her through the cancer diagnosis and the chemo. Yet the only mention he got was how cool it was to ride on his motorbike through Paris.

I get it was too painful to talk about but you’d expect a bit more about him.

I think given the seriousness of that relationship, the only way I would not talk about someone under any circumstances would be if they cheated. So maybe that’s what happened. Maybe just too painful to talk about in general.

miserablecat · 29/05/2026 14:37

Given the scrutiny they were under while she was having chemo, maybe they had an agreement not to speak publicly about it? But agree given the amount she spoke of MH you'd think that was her longest, most serious relationship (in reality it was probably short intensive bursts of time between both their tours/work commitments)

Yes. 8 years isn't a huge difference but Kylie was so young at the time. MH was much more worldly and experienced than Kylie and this must have influenced their relationship. Didn't he say something about how his hobby was 'corrupting Kylie'? That's a tad ick to me.

BreezyMintHiker · 29/05/2026 17:37

Binged all 3 episodes. I think she’s an absolute force of nature and seems lovely.

JD seems like he’d be hard work. Sulky, petulant, still half in love with Kylie.

I don’t really get the admiration for MH. He does nothing for me at all. Just seems like a bit of a sad druggie.

Nick Cave seems lovely and a really lovely friend.

I was struck by how dismissive Terry Wogan was of her. “You can’t be a singer AND an actress”. I used to like him.

And the dreadful sneering Lloyd Grossman is I hope cringing at how he came across.

Letsgoforaskip · 29/05/2026 18:15

@SequinsandSolerosInTheSummertime Thank you for the link to that article. It was beautifully written and very poignant. I hope some progress has been made but think there’s a long way to go.

HoldMyWine · 29/05/2026 22:02

The best thing about it was Nick Cave. I adore his song ‘ into my arms’. He and Kylie seem to have a lovely lifelong friendship.

Length of relationship is kind of irrelevant imo.

In terms of impact, the MH relationship was obviously peak for Kylie.

The heart isn't necessarily rational!

I was 21 when I had my most impactful relationship - and that was only a few months!

It's such a formative time in our lives.

JuliettaCaeser · 30/05/2026 08:37

She seems like a lovely person and is a great performer but she’s quite…flat. Didn’t feel there was a huge amount there.

Yes I agree. In all the times I've seen her interviewed she doesn't actually really say anything. She's never really had any sort of scandal going on, apart from maybe dabbling with different things with MH. So she's pretty boring really. But a great performer & seems like a lovely person

JuliettaCaeser · 30/05/2026 08:54

It’s not that scandal makes you interesting. My friends are lively interesting intelligent women who are great company. Kylie seemed like the sort your heart would sink if you were sat next to on a night out. Sorry kylie!

MiniCoopers · 30/05/2026 10:01

She seems incredibly popular with all the other celebrities.. I don’t think I’ve ever heard bad words said about her and I do think that’s quite rare. I think she just knows how to play the media and tries to be as private as she can given she’s ‘Kylie’ and is ‘on’ all the time.

Violetparis · 30/05/2026 10:05

I've watched the first 2 episodes and really enjoyed them. The men interviewing her in her early singing career were awful but at the time I did agree with them. I'm not sure there is much depth to her as an artist, she said she loved music then there was a cIip of her taping the top 40 like most 80s kids did.

I do think she got a very lucky break with SAW as she's not mega talented but good luck to her, what a life she's had. I did like her alot when she did Shocked/Better the Devil You Know and she was so stunningly beautiful in the early 90s when she was with MH. I like her still but don't quite know why !

Yes I'm sure they're interesting but, sorry if this sounds rude, would the average person find a documentary about their lives interesting?

JuliettaCaeser · 30/05/2026 11:42

I think documentaries about ordinary people’s lives done well. could be very interesting! People avidly watch those long lost family and recent history programs about ordinary people. What I mostly liked about that documentary was the memories about the era rather than actually kylie herself same with the David beckham one.

Yes but in your examples eg Long Lost Family it's ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances

JuliettaCaeser · 30/05/2026 13:12

Most people have an interesting story to tell. I see many clients and hear all sorts.

VanillaImpulse · 30/05/2026 13:45

I never knew that Nick Cave is godfather to Tiger Lily Hutchence-Geldof (Paula and Michael’s child)

Loved it. Jason is just bitter his success was never as huge as hers and to be honest he only ever got with Stock Aitken and Waterman due to her so he should be thankful for her. He has clearly also conveniently forgotten that he got himself into drink and drugs and nearly died and it had nothing to do with his 3 year relationship with Kyle which ended in 1989. I mean fucking hell build a bridge Jason.

I was wondering if the reason he got into all the drink and drugs was a result of the breakdown of his relationship with Kylie and humiliation of being dumped for MH.

I doubt it. They dated for only a few years when both were teenagers. And I don't think he started taking hard drugs until some years later. Heavy drinking and drug taking was very common in the showbiz industry in those days.

TheOliveDreamer · 30/05/2026 17:26

I loved this. One thing that stood out was her saying she'd always been encouraged as a child - I think you can really see that in her confidence.

Also I loved Nick Cave and how he came across. Bless him.

I don't really care about the Jason stuff- whatever he says doesn't change how successful he's been, he himself said he's jealous. Doesn't reflect great on him but guess he'd always felt that way.

TheOliveDreamer · 30/05/2026 17:30

Agree with Kylie it's an energy thing - I think you can love someone's energy, more than talent. I saw her live once because a friend is a mega fan and why not - I absolutely loved it, was much more than I expected it to be.

Same. I'd love to be her friend. She comes across as so genuine.

Nick Cave made me laugh. He obviously has a lot of affection for her.

That period when she escaped to Paris. She must have been so lost. How brave of her.

I didn't remember the stick she got
Bloody disgusting! I'm the same age as her. Mind I didn't take much notice of news in those days. And of course we didn't have mobile phones.

BurntBroccoli · 31/05/2026 12:20

Watched last night and really enjoyed it.

Who knew Nick Cave was so sweet and partly responsible for Kylie’s reincarnation into disco goddess!
