Following on from the last thread.

We're currently up to where Roy has been arrested for (allegedly) killing Lauren, and Roy's dog has been stolen and the thieves are saying the dog won't be returned until Roy admits his guilt.

Leanne is being drawn into a weird cult.

Toyah is arrested for criminal damage for attacking someone's car. (Someone who thinks Roy buried Lauren in the park!) And she doesn't seem quite herself. What is wrong with her?

Joel and DeeDee are on-again-off-again ...

I'm sure there's a few more bits and bobs going on, but there's plenty of space on this thread (and time) to catch up.

I don't know the spoiler about Toyah ...I really try hard not to see them or click on them ....I am still recovering from another accidental spoiler I saw !! 😮.

But I think I can guess what this might be all about .

I will be honest when it all comes out if my theory was correct or not 😅😅.

Checking in and wanting to post this again as it’s been bugging me for a while.

I’ve been thinking this for a while about Eileen, her character is so vibrant and full of life in classic, she really is a force to be reckoned with, such a great strong character, now it feel like the actress is just going through the motions and reads the script in a monotone voice with no effort behind it.

It’s like she really can’t be arsed to be there, maybe it’s the poor scripts and storylines which are a massive come down from who she used to be, a real shame.

Re Eileen, I agree. I mentioned this on the last thread last night.

As you (and I) and a few other posters have said, she seems to have lost her mojo. As you say, she was a force to be reckoned with; feisty, and cheeky, and funny, and fearless. And she took no shit!

The scene in Classic Corrie yesterday (from 2004,) when Todd caught Jason with Sarah (in bed) and Todd decided to leave the street was amazing. She was full of fury and anger, and she was sobbing, and begging Todd not to leave. And she was screaming at Jason and Sarah, and laying into Gail. Feisty, angry, powerful. The old Eileen.

I'm sorry to say this, but she has lost her personality since she lost all the weight. As you say, she just speaks monotone now, and she appears to be a bit bored all the time. 😬

DeeDee (as I also said on the thread last night,) looks like she has lost weight - her waist looks slimmer, and her face looks thinner, and she looks great! Another poster @DirtyDensDog said this too, so I don't think I'm imagining it.

nb: I don't mean DeeDee looked bad with more weight on her. She just looks a bit better with a bit of weight off.

So why did she buy an expensive single yellow rose? There were loads at that park.

At least it was a change from the Red Rec.

I’m wondering if the actress who plays Eileen is unwell. I think she has lost far too much weight - maybe she has no energy? Or an overactive thyroid? She looks older than her age now as she’s too thin.
I’ve started watching Classic Corrie. Really enjoyed the ‘Norris and Rita end up at a Swingers event’ storyline. Makes you realise how vibrant the cast and scenes used to be. Katy’s party had so many cast members attend. These days any event has just a few cast members attend and we are meant to forgot that other characters exist. Wondering if they have cut the actors hours,’ to save money. It’s still noticeable how quiet scenes are despite recent sightings of some extras.

Sue Cleaver has been unwell (sepsis) and also a hysterectomy which is why she's been mostly off the Cobbles for 6 months ish (and other acting things).

I didn't know Sue Cleaver (Eileen) had been ill and had sepsis! I wonder how and why she got sepsis? Probably contributed to the weight loss. But as has been said, she has lost too much weight now, and is not looking her best. On top of that though, as has been said, she seems flat and dull in her role as Eileen now. Hopefully she is OK.

I agree with @Thequeenofwishfulthinking that all the scenes now seem to have only the people involved in the scene in it. And rarely any extras. Eg, the pub... Only Glenda, Jenny, and Daisy will be in there. Then Bobby or someone might pop in for a moment and then leave. Ditto Dev's shop, Rita's shop, and Audrey's Salon etc.

Pre 2020, in addition to the 3 to 5 people talking in the scene, you used to get maybe 6 to 12 people (extras,) in the background - just pottering about, chatting quietly, and randomly chatting to others who came in. Now, you only get the 3 or 4 people in the actual scene/with lines in the pub or shop etc... No-one else. This started during Covid, and was understandable then, but why is it still happening? It's weird.

I'm not sure it's to cut the actors hours, as they are all contracted for 12 months, 18 months, 2 years, 3 years etc, and would be paid their allocated salary each year (though they'd have it monthly,) no matter how many scenes they're in.

Eileen's touring with "Sister Act" in a main role, thought that's why she's leaving for a while?

She's diabetic and was apparently unwell on diagnosis. She had a cgm when in the jungle. Aside from any other illness, this will likely account for her weight loss.

Yes it's been fairly common knowledge that Eileen actress is appearing in Sister Act. Years ago soap actors weren't allowed to appear anywhere else while in the soaps. The actors these days must be on a very different type of contract as some characters are missing for months or have not much more than extra roles so they won't be wealthy on Corrie salaries.

Yes, I don't think many of them will be wealthy on Corrie salaries - except maybe the top 12-15 or so, like Kevin, Sally, Rita, Gail, Audrey, Sarah, Steve, Jenny, possibly Maria, Gary, and other ones that have been there a good 20 years like Tyrone, Fizz, David, ... In fact I believe they're on around £125,000 to £150,000 a year. (Ken and Rita would have been on a high salary, and I believe they were on £200K some 10 years ago, but I doubt they get that now as they're hardly in it these days.)

But yeah, certainly I would imagine a good chunk of the cast (maybe two-thirds,) are probably on less than 75 grand a year ... Also, as has been observed, some of them are away for a few weeks or a few months at a time now, and are not included in any scenes at all unless they're actually part of the storyline.

I would imagine Sue (Eileen) would have been on a decent salary, but as she is hardly around now I imagine her contract changed when it was renewed (along with a few more cast members.) These new contracts that make the cast members in it a lot less, will almost certainly have dropped their salaries, and cut costs.

I don't much like how they have only the 3 or 4 people in any given scene as the only ones in the whole pub/Dev's shop/Bistro/Kabin/hairdressers/garage etc... I preferred it when there were loads of people buzzing around in the background. So like 3 or 4 main characters were in the scene, and then there were extras in the background - including other members of the cast.

I find it quite depressing that people go on about her weight. She looks fantastic.

Great new thread. I will be honest, I think the Roy murdering Lauren is a totally rubbish storyline.

Poor lady having sepsis. No wonder she hasn’t looked great lately. My husband had it a few times and it took a heck of a lot of getting over. It killed my dad too. I feel bad saying she didn’t look great on tbe last thread now.

And agree, I wish they’d give Eileen her old personality back, she look’s permanently bored stiff now.
Also find Sam really annoying - it’s that wispy voice.

I don’t even remember her having any kind of bump in Classic Corrie and didn’t Janice start seeing Dennis after Toyah left the cobbles?
