Continuing from the last thread when 2003 begins! Doesn't time fly in Classic Corrie? The last thread was started 10 months ago, and we have powered through a year and 8 months in that time (20 months.) Wonder where we will be by the end of this one? (If it does eventually come to an end?) Grin

Karen (McDonald) has been stressing about the death of her mum - and trying to be a better person, Martin and Katie are still together, (though Katie's dad Tommy is unimpressed by it,) Kelly Crabtree has just come in, Cilla abandoned Chesney to go on holiday with Les, Sunita and Dev are together at last, and Maya is about to go on a rampage after appearing to forge Sunita's signature for something.

Also, Sean has just come in and started living with Eileen (still is I think!) Jason and Todd are still in it, and Danny Baldwin and his wife Frankie are in charge of Underworld now, with Daniel's 'Uncle Mike' taking lots more time off. Oh, and Danny's son Jamie has just arrived, followed by Frankie and Danny's son Warren...

Charlie the builder is dating Shelly the barmaid, and Sally has just recently started turning into a snob. Jack (Duckworth) was dressed as Ida Fagg posing as a woman for the bowls team, and Norris, Blanche, and Emily have been playing poker!

Roy and Hayley are still together, Ciaran the handsome Irish barman is trying to start up his own business with Penny King, Steve seems to be warming to his little daughter (baby Amy,) and at the moment, there doesn't seem to be much drama with Gail and Audrey's family, or the Barlows, or the Websters, or with Fred and Ashley. Ashley and Clare are dating, but it's still a bit up in the air.

Hope I haven't missed much out, but that covers most stuff going on right now I think. Let's see how much has changed by the end of this thread. Smile

Thanks for the new thread and what a good recap from memory!

AuntieStella · 14/04/2024 16:10

Placemarking (sorry)

I'm often a week or two behind and watching on catch up, and this is a period when I didn't watch it first time round, so although I know the story arcs, I didn't get the detail. And I like to see that unfold, IYSWIM, so I only dip in to the Classic threads when I'm more in step with TV pace.

eggandonion · 14/04/2024 16:48

What about poor Dev....?

whomoon · 14/04/2024 18:03

Place marking!

I thought Jack as Ida Fagg was hilarious.

Thanks for the new thread and what a good recap from memory!

Aww, thank you @JewelleryCat ! I did my best. Hope I didn't miss too much out. Anything missed can be flagged up quickly on here soon though. Smile

@CyanCrystalViolet Jack was funny as Ida Fagg. I mean you had to suspend belief to think anyone would believe he was a woman, but it was funny!

@x2boys yes I think Christmas will be about 6 weeks! It's 3 months away in Classic Corrie at the moment, and it's running at double speed right now.

Great new thread. I am fed up with Martin and Katy.

i actually think Emily is not that nice to Norris, she isn’t as kind as I remembered from first time round. Half the storylines I have no recollection of!

Oh yeah, Katy and Martin are quite grim! (I know that word - grim - is overused on MN, but they are!) He does treat her/speak to her like he's her father! (Probably because he's actually old enough to be her father!) 😬

I agree that Emily is quite rude to Norris too! Never thought of it before, but yeah she is rude to him - and intolerant of him! She snaps at him for next to nothing sometimes. Supposed to be a Christian too. (Yeah, when it suits her eh?!)

I have had a complete re-think about Emily, and also Betty! Emily really is unpleasant towards Norris, who is really protective of her and looks out for her. She can be really cutting towards him.

And Betty! Always though she was a kindly soul, but she's a miserable old sow, constantly scowling at people and threatening to walk out of her job. If I employed her, I'd let her!

TennisWithDeborah · 14/04/2024 22:55

Dare I say it, I’m quite enjoying Sean.

SabreIsMyFave · 15/04/2024 00:30

Yes @TennisWithDeborah I am enjoying Sean in Classic Corrie too. Smile Although, unlike many others I don't dislike him even now. He seems to be loathed on Twitter, and disliked on here a bit.

@HurdyGurdy19 Yeah Betty is a bit of a misery sometimes eh? And I don't understand why they don't just let her leave if she wants to. She's always whingeing! 😆

She was also quite intolerant of poor old Percy too ,
She was always saying Mr Sugden! Indignantly !

rinseandrepeat1 · 15/04/2024 08:40

Checking in.

I'm still a few behind. Just at the point where Jack plays in bowls.

CyanCrystalViolet · 15/04/2024 09:36

I like Betty. She’s wise to men’s tactics and takes no shit. I think she was the only one who said anything about what a disgusting and exploitative business the Thai bride thing was while other people just laughed or told Fred he was being taken advantage of (ok so he was in this instance but normally it’s the other way around). I seem to recall she’s also suspicious of Charlie.

I didn’t warm to Emily the first time round. I agree she’s horrible to lovely Norris and I think she behaved horribly over the town hall thing.

I don’t mind Sean and have never really understood all the hate he gets. He’s very unpopular on Reddit too.

HurdyGurdy19 · 15/04/2024 11:49

No, I don't understand all the Sean hatred on other sites. I warmed to him even more when (in modern Corrie) when he confronted his son, and talked about how he was bullied for being gay.

I haven't really taken to Anthony Cotton when I've seen him on other programmes, but I can separate the character he plays from the actor.

I know, it's weird. On Twitter, people keep saying to get rid of Sean, as he's a pointless character, and Antony is a shit actor and pointless and an arsehole et al... I don't see it. I think he's OK.

Oh yeah you're right, and I agree. She is canny all right, and I don't dislike Betty. Just think she can be a bit of a curmudgeon sometimes.* *Grin

CyanCrystalViolet · 15/04/2024 12:25

Apparently Anthony Cotton isn’t very nice IRL and has been unpleasant to other cast members, along with the woman who plays Fiz. Not sure how true that is but I’ve heard it from a few online sources now.

rinseandrepeat1 · 15/04/2024 12:27

@CyanCrystalViolet I have also heard this! I find it quite easy to imagine this being true

TennisWithDeborah · 15/04/2024 12:59

Yes I read somewhere that Antony, Jennie and Kym are a bit of a mean clique. I haven’t watched CS for years so I don’t know if they’re all still in it.

But I also know that Antony does a huge amount of charity work.

Although I suppose those things - spitefulness and philanthropy- are not necessarily mutually exclusive!

Antony was also one of the people who stuck his neck out and defended Michael Le Vell publicly when he was maliciously accused of an offence. Kym too, if I recall correctly. Along with Helen Flanagan, Malcolm Hebden, Nigel Pivaro and others.

eggandonion · 15/04/2024 13:24

Nigel Pivaro....time for some more of the amazing Terry Duckworth!
Sean being housed by Eileen was fine back in the day. But he does need a place of his own to flourish.
Betty has seen it all before. She knows whats what.
