Classic Corrie Thread. Now in September 2004.

Continuing from the last thread when 2003 begins! Doesn't time fly in Classic Corrie? The last thread was started 10 months ago, and we have powered through a year and 8 months in that time (20 months.) Wonder where we will be by the end of this one? (If it does eventually come to an end?)

Karen (McDonald) has been stressing about the death of her mum - and trying to be a better person, Martin and Katie are still together, (though Katie's dad Tommy is unimpressed by it,) Kelly Crabtree has just come in, Cilla abandoned Chesney to go on holiday with Les, Sunita and Dev are together at last, and Maya is about to go on a rampage after appearing to forge Sunita's signature for something.

Also, Sean has just come in and started living with Eileen (still is I think!) Jason and Todd are still in it, and Danny Baldwin and his wife Frankie are in charge of Underworld now, with Daniel's 'Uncle Mike' taking lots more time off. Oh, and Danny's son Jamie has just arrived, followed by Frankie and Danny's son Warren...

Charlie the builder is dating Shelly the barmaid, and Sally has just recently started turning into a snob. Jack (Duckworth) was dressed as Ida Fagg posing as a woman for the bowls team, and Norris, Blanche, and Emily have been playing poker!

Roy and Hayley are still together, Ciaran the handsome Irish barman is trying to start up his own business with Penny King, Steve seems to be warming to his little daughter (baby Amy,) and at the moment, there doesn't seem to be much drama with Gail and Audrey's family, or the Barlows, or the Websters, or with Fred and Ashley. Ashley and Clare are dating, but it's still a bit up in the air.

Hope I haven't missed much out, but that covers most stuff going on right now I think. Let's see how much has changed by the end of this thread.

I am finding Shelly quite a boring character at the moment. She seems very naive for a woman who has worked in bars her whole working life, she must have seen many crappy men being awful to women but she doesn’t seem to have any idea.

I find Liz annoying and had forgotten how awful her outfits were, the costume department definitely had fun dressing her as tarty as possible.

I see to remember first time round the Shelley storyline seemed to make more sense, like she really had been so destroyed by what happened with Peter, that she had lost all her confidence and fight. This time round watching it, I’m don’t see that being portrayed as much as I remembered it.

Shelley going round to drunkenly accuse Gail of having an affair with Charlie was pretty much a repeat of what her mother did to Deirdre. Charlie winds women up.

And poor sweet Sunita. She's so lovely. I really feel for her.

Good for Frankie though, for saying what she saw when the taxi driver saw Maya and recognised her from a wedding she was at (as the bride!)

I was so surprised Frankie did that considering her and Maya are best mates

Does the sunita storyline make any sense? Birth certs are publicly available. Anyone could get someone else’s and use it. Do you have to provide any other ID to get married?

I think I just provided my birth certificate ,i got married in 2005 so not long after "Sunita and Dev"
No idea if the rules have changed now
But why aren't the police checking with the registrars ?
Surely a quick does this look like the women claiming to be Sunita Parekh ,would clear this up ?

It seems pretty remiss of the police and like a pp said anyone can get hold of a birth certificate I donf know much about maya Paying the money earned unto sunita ,s bank account but assuming she had the details I don't think it would be problematic

All the smoking on that game show! I started work in 2002 and there was defo no smoking allowed in offices then

I qualified as a mental.health nurse in 1996 hard to beleive now but patients were allowed to smoke in the main day room and there was a smoke room for staff!
Gradually they did away with smoking privileges and its a complete smoke free Trust now I beleive .

Mayas storyline must be coming to the crescendo soon, looking forward to it

It reminded me of that episode of friends where ,Joey was asked to audition for a new game show host that had really complicated rules that didn't make sense ,but he practiced it with Ross and chandler ,band they became " experts "but by the time he went back to audition they had done away with most of the rules 🤣

I’m happy to be corrected but I can’t find anything to show there was any sort of smoking ban in workplaces or elsewhere until 2007. I think it was more of a case of employers having their own rules in the years preceding, which in most cases would have been no smoking in offices. Crazy to think it was legally ok to smoke inside until 2007!

@ImNotThereAmI Correct. I was working in a sex chatline office between early 2001 and March 2003 and we were all smoking in there apart from the two non smokers. (must have been awful for them looking back) I gave up smoking back in 2005

My first baby was born in 1991 and the day room was the smoking room on the post natal ward. My third baby was born in 1996 and the new mums had to go outside to smoke.
Maya must be making her exit soon.And I haven't seen Schmeichel recently. He is a really good character.

Question,are Dev and Sunita legally married?
I know maya married. The illegal immigrants in Sunitas name but does that affect the legality of their marriage now ?

2006 in Scotland and 2007 in England and Wales. I agree, very late and it feels so weird to think back to how it was!
