Continuing from the last thread when 2003 begins! Doesn't time fly in Classic Corrie? The last thread was started 10 months ago, and we have powered through a year and 8 months in that time (20 months.) Wonder where we will be by the end of this one? (If it does eventually come to an end?) Grin

Karen (McDonald) has been stressing about the death of her mum - and trying to be a better person, Martin and Katie are still together, (though Katie's dad Tommy is unimpressed by it,) Kelly Crabtree has just come in, Cilla abandoned Chesney to go on holiday with Les, Sunita and Dev are together at last, and Maya is about to go on a rampage after appearing to forge Sunita's signature for something.

Also, Sean has just come in and started living with Eileen (still is I think!) Jason and Todd are still in it, and Danny Baldwin and his wife Frankie are in charge of Underworld now, with Daniel's 'Uncle Mike' taking lots more time off. Oh, and Danny's son Jamie has just arrived, followed by Frankie and Danny's son Warren...

Charlie the builder is dating Shelly the barmaid, and Sally has just recently started turning into a snob. Jack (Duckworth) was dressed as Ida Fagg posing as a woman for the bowls team, and Norris, Blanche, and Emily have been playing poker!

Roy and Hayley are still together, Ciaran the handsome Irish barman is trying to start up his own business with Penny King, Steve seems to be warming to his little daughter (baby Amy,) and at the moment, there doesn't seem to be much drama with Gail and Audrey's family, or the Barlows, or the Websters, or with Fred and Ashley. Ashley and Clare are dating, but it's still a bit up in the air.

Hope I haven't missed much out, but that covers most stuff going on right now I think. Let's see how much has changed by the end of this thread. Smile

@CyanCrystalViolet

What sort of things do they cut from Friends? I haven’t watched it since around the 2009 reruns ...

When Ross said the word 'vulva' when his date asked him to 'talk dirty.' The word vulva is cut out.

When Monica was helping Chandler be good in bed with Kathy with the numbered list and she said 'SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN,' and simulates an orgasm. The entire half a minute where she starts saying SEVEN.... or so was cut.

When Brooke Shields was in it, and Joey dumped her, and the other 'Friends' threw water in his face - Chandler said 'you left the toilet seat up you bastard!' That line was cut.

Chandler had a third nipple and Ross flipped the milk carton open and asked for a refill. (That was cut on a Ch5 re-run the other week.)

Rachel bangs her head on purpose to pretend that banging your head is normal, (in an episode when Ben was a baby, and Monica banged Ben's head,) when she and Monica were looking after him. The bit where Rachel says 'aww if it's not a headboard it's just not worth it' was cut.

When Rachel was trying to get to like Julie (when Ross came back from China with her,) she was being nice and friendly and getting on with her, and when Julie leaves her, Rachel says 'what a manipulative bitch.' That line was cut.

Stuff like that. Smile

It wasn't cut on Netflix, and it's not on the DVDs (Though I have had the DVD box set since around 2007!) But it is cut on Channel 5, and it was on Channel 4 when it was on in the mid to late 2010s.

I thought the inbetweeners was absolutely vile at the time and wondered how they were allowed to air it. I’m shuddering just thinking about those creeps.

I agree about Inbetweeners. It's grim now isn't it? The terminology is horrible.

Forgot how horrible Charlie was at the start. I remember his later behaviour alright but he’s so creepy and aggressive and playing the happy charming chap all the while. Shudder.

Agree. He is vile.

Also - I don't know whether I have said this before, but I do NOT remember Shelley ever being with Charlie. Yet they are clearly together a good few months..

I do I remember what he did re, her weight Making her weigh herself in front of the entire pub.

JenniferBooth · 27/04/2024 16:30

@SabreIsMyFave Ive been watching the reruns of Steptoe and Son on Thats TV (the black and white episodes from the 60s are hilarious) and lots of dialogue has been removed. There is a warning banner across the top of each episode so people can choose whether to watch it or not.

CyanCrystalViolet · 27/04/2024 16:45

@SabreIsMyFave i can’t believe they cut the word ‘vulva’.

I can’t even look at Charlie. He looks like an ex!

Daft innit? ANNND... Most people who are offended by old 1980s (and earlier years) dialogue, will not be watching this kind of show!

I was watching a very old episode. Of block busters yesterday one of the questions was something like ,what are the busty ladies of of a certain tabloid newspaper known as ,the answer page three girls
I found it quite astonishing that the very straight laced Bob Holness, was OK asking the question to a bunch of sixth formers, it shows how acceptable this kind of stuff was I'm the 80,s .

x2boys · 27/04/2024 21:41

I feel quite sorry for shelley she's very insecure after her "marriage " to Peter Barlow " and I think she feels lucky to have found Charlie and believes everything he says in spite of what other people tell her ,he plays on her vulnerabilities.

Yes you're right. Shelley is insecure and Charlie IS playing on it. Vile man. Hmm

I do remember the Charlie/Shelley relationship, and I think there's some pretty shocking stuff to come.

He really was a vile piece of work, and one of Traceyluv's best moves was to see him off, IMO!

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 29/04/2024 16:13

Definitely spot on re Shelley PPs. Also I think she can’t bear to have another relationship go wrong with the bloke cheating on her so she is clinging on to the idea that Charlie is a decent bloke and everyone else must be lying.

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 29/04/2024 16:14

Charlie and Shelley does get fairly horrible. similar to the Geoff and Yasmeen
storyline ☹️

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 29/04/2024 16:15

Although built up over ages rather than happening all of a sudden like Geoff

I genuinely can't remember it!!! Can't even remember them being together! I only remember Charlie being with TraceyLuv. (And trying to control and manipulate her.)

So this will all be new to me! Shock

Here’s a quiz question for you: “what do Bob Holness and Barbara Knox have in common?”

Answer: they were both rumoured to be the saxophonist on the song “Baker Street”. 😀

True story.

I’ve watched Classic Corrie for about 18 months now and can honestly say that the Richard Hillman car story was the only episode I can remember. I don’t remember any of it otherwise except the characters. I laugh loudly at the episodes but the ones these day are dire !

thenightsky · 30/04/2024 18:06

I remember the Charlie and Shelley story very well. It was well done and very upsetting.

eggandonion · 30/04/2024 18:51

Violet has arrived!
I love Charlie advising Jason. He is a really excellent rotter. Jason is one of my all time greats.

x2boys · 30/04/2024 20:33

Nice to see Steve is finally bonding with Amy ,and that baby is very cute !

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 30/04/2024 22:35

Violet is gorgeous! She gets a bit downtrodden later on as far as I can recall.

eggandonion · 30/04/2024 22:59

I don't remember much about Violet except the consequences in current corrie!

SabreIsMyFave · 30/04/2024 23:06

I agree about Violet. She's smoking! 😍

Shelley is a fool taking back Charlie. So does that means she doesn't believe Liz now then? Confused Will she let her back in the pub? If she now believes Charlie, then than means she can't believe Liz.

Amy is as cute as heck. Grin

Karen looking all flushed and excited when Sarah said she is a natural, and Amy really likes her was so sweet. Smile And yeah, it's good to see Steve bonding with Amy. 😃

Great new thread. I am fed up with Martin and Katy.

i actually think Emily is not that nice to Norris, she isn’t as kind as I remembered from first time round. Half the storylines I have no recollection of!

Emily has never been nice, she was always horrible, I hated the way she treated Percy Sugden, she could barely tolerate his presence and he held her in such high regard as well, she doesn’t treat her next victim Norris much better either but as she collects for ‘Friends of Weatherfield General’ everyone thinks she is Saint Emily the Blessed, and don’t get me started on getting the council to put a stop to Alf’s memorial, how could she do such a thing to her ‘friend’ Audrey, horrible woman. Glad I got that off my chest, it’s been festering for years!

Agree with all of this. ^ I never noticed how mean-spirited Emily is the first time round LOL. I can see it now. She really is a rather unpleasant woman! As you say, her putting a stop to Alf's memorial was proper nasty.

ImNotThereAmI · 01/05/2024 10:56

Emily is a good example of how when someone markets themself as a Christian, charity worker, all round good person, they get away with being horrible and self righteous but people still think they’re really good and lovely
