Classic Corrie Thread. Now in September 2004.

Continuing from the last thread when 2003 begins! Doesn't time fly in Classic Corrie? The last thread was started 10 months ago, and we have powered through a year and 8 months in that time (20 months.) Wonder where we will be by the end of this one? (If it does eventually come to an end?) Grin

Karen (McDonald) has been stressing about the death of her mum - and trying to be a better person, Martin and Katie are still together, (though Katie's dad Tommy is unimpressed by it,) Kelly Crabtree has just come in, Cilla abandoned Chesney to go on holiday with Les, Sunita and Dev are together at last, and Maya is about to go on a rampage after appearing to forge Sunita's signature for something.

Also, Sean has just come in and started living with Eileen (still is I think!) Jason and Todd are still in it, and Danny Baldwin and his wife Frankie are in charge of Underworld now, with Daniel's 'Uncle Mike' taking lots more time off. Oh, and Danny's son Jamie has just arrived, followed by Frankie and Danny's son Warren...

Charlie the builder is dating Shelly the barmaid, and Sally has just recently started turning into a snob. Jack (Duckworth) was dressed as Ida Fagg posing as a woman for the bowls team, and Norris, Blanche, and Emily have been playing poker!

Roy and Hayley are still together, Ciaran the handsome Irish barman is trying to start up his own business with Penny King, Steve seems to be warming to his little daughter (baby Amy,) and at the moment, there doesn't seem to be much drama with Gail and Audrey's family, or the Barlows, or the Websters, or with Fred and Ashley. Ashley and Clare are dating, but it's still a bit up in the air.

Hope I haven't missed much out, but that covers most stuff going on right now I think. Let's see how much has changed by the end of this thread. Smile

Thanks for the newish thread, a brilliant recap there @SabreIsMyFave .

Can anyone remember who it was Maya was meeting (male waiting in a car outside) when she stole Sunita's birth certificate from the flat.
I really can't remember how the plot develops but we do have a long remembered three word rhyme about Maya in our house (I don't want to spoiler anything so I'll leave a big gap)

Maya
Hiya
Fire

Hey, you're welcome. Smile

Also, I can't remember who Maya is meeting. In fact there's quite a bit I can't remember! Which is good as it means it will all be like new. Smile

Great new thread. I am fed up with Martin and Katy.

i actually think Emily is not that nice to Norris, she isn’t as kind as I remembered from first time round. Half the storylines I have no recollection of!

Same here. I remember Emily being quite a nice person but she’s a right rude cow isn’t she. Same with Betty, she’s not as nice as I remember

What are we in, 2004? I had a not too dissimilar style back then. It was blue and red and choppy but not as short. I got it all done for £15 with a trainee hairdresser. It was dreadful.

Yeah, I think Victoria Beckham had a similar style (to what Katie has in 2004,) but VB's looked fine (as I'm sure yours did.) Smile

But Katie's??? Shock She looks like Sonic The Hedgehog!

Yeah Emily is rather rude isn't she? Betty a bit less so, and more forthright with annoying people who are pissing her off. But still Betty is a little bit rude yeah.

And as other posters have said, I am shocked at how horrible Emily was towards Audrey about the Alf Memorial. Very unkind. And she is meant to be a Christian!

I'm confused as to what was happening at Rula,s House when Rita and Norris visited, I understand there was supposed to be some " partner swapping 🤮
But who were all the other people Norris was spying on through his key hole?

Just a big weird orgy/swinging party I think. People tootling around, popping into each others rooms for sex!

It was very good today! Todd discovered Sarah in bed with his brother Jason! Then the 💩hit the fan! Looks like Todd is out of it for a while now.

Candice hates Sarah now!

Poor Gail, stuck in the middle! 😬

Fred has a loft full of squirrels now. 😆

Yes very good episode today i can see it from all point of view, s sarah,s vulnerable and wanted some affectation but oh dear did she have to pick Jason, and could she not have left the house earlier ! Mind you Jason was no better he's a good looking lad could he not have found someone who wasent his brothers ex?
Eileen was out of order but as a mother I can see why she,s blaming Sarah rather than her own son .

SabreIsMyFave · 22/04/2024 20:52

Agree with all your points @x2boys

MatchingBedding · 23/04/2024 13:30

I must say I felt really sorry for Sarah. Todd hit her across the face and then Eileen went to town on her after everything she has been through. Her night with Jason was stupid but in the grand scheme of things she is still the victim and should have been given a tiny bit of compassion. Although Jason’s homophobia and ignorance was pretty nasty to watch too I don’t think he would have been so awful if his mum had even pretended to care equally about her sons.

I am glad you have said that about Emily, she was vile to Mr Sugdeon too, always rolling her eyes and telling him off but she was horrible about Alfs fountain. Her principals and Christian charity didn’t help her there.

SabreIsMyFave · 23/04/2024 23:14

@MatchingBedding

Good post. Totally agree. Poor Sarah should not have taken all the flak, whilst Todd buggared off, and Jason got off scot-free.

And yeah, Eileen clearly prefers Todd to Jason!

OP posts:
CyanCrystalViolet · 23/04/2024 23:34

I don’t think Sarah should’ve taken all the flack for that BUT I did enjoy Candice telling her she acts like a child.

Getupat8amnow · 24/04/2024 11:57

I also felt sorry for Sarah.

Poostickers · 24/04/2024 13:28

I'm amazed Fred Elliot managed to get through all those years without accidently killing someone, by noise or squashing or shock! Lovely man though

SabreIsMyFave · 25/04/2024 19:54

Charlie is such a creep making a play for Liz. 'Because older women are grateful for it.' At least Liz had the common sense to push him away.

Charlie didn't like it. Wonder what he will do?! Probably tell Shelley Liz tried it on with him, and get Liz sacked!

Poor Tyrone, so fond of Maria, and she has friendzoned him!

The squirrels in the residents attics were funny! 😁

Charlie was vile good for Liz punching him.
Yeah shelley won't believe her precious Charlie would try it on with anyone else
Tyrone is lovely but Maria thinks she can do better than him
It was inevitable the squirrels would just go along to the next loft along 🤣

Yes to all of that! ^

So now Liz has been sacked by Shelley (after believing Charlie's version of events.) Silly woman! I think Fred knows Charlie is lying (as he went for Shelley's mum, so he likes the 'mature' ladies.)

OP posts:
OnTheBoardwalk · 26/04/2024 22:33

I liked the squirrel story and I’m not a funny person!

even though we all knew what would happen it was well written and well played out. I miss old Corrie

CyanCrystalViolet · 27/04/2024 09:13

Shelley’s become really nasty hasn’t she? Was she always that way with Liz or is it Charlie’s influence?

It was horrible to see Liz being sexually assaulted, not believed and even Fred had the audacity to ask her ‘are you sure you weren’t sending any signals?’. The constant use of the words ‘old slapper’, ‘tart’ and ‘bitch’ is depressing. Sally asking Rosie what Pippa’s dad does. Thank god for characters like Liz and Betty (and Maya to an extent lol) standing up to these misogynistic creatures.

Why is there no cctv in the Rovers? Or in Dev’s shop? It could save everyone a lot of angst. They don’t even have it in modern Corrie.

ImNotThereAmI · 27/04/2024 09:23

I agree it’s quite shocking to hear the language used. You’d never hear someone being called a bitch etc on a soap now and I’m surprised it was so prevalent only 20 years ago. You don’t always realise how much things have changed until you look back I guess

SabreIsMyFave · 27/04/2024 09:43

Yes, I've noticed Shelly was really nasty towards Liz. I said to my DH 'why is she being so nasty towards her?' He said 'Liz was being arsey to Charlie to start with, and that's why Shelley is snapping at her.' But I don't remember Liz being horrible/arsey to Charlie.

Also, yes, regarding the language used. I don't feel like that would be allowed now. If you watch stuff made 15+ years ago, some of it is edited/some of it has loads cut out. EG, when you watch episodes of Friends, some of them are cut to ribbons - with the most innocuous stuff cut out.

I was saying to DH the other night there's no way that 'The Inbetweeners; would be made now - and that was only what 13-14 years ago. You watch it now. It's quite shocking. The language and the terminology they used...

OP posts:
CyanCrystalViolet · 27/04/2024 10:52

I thought the inbetweeners was absolutely vile at the time and wondered how they were allowed to air it. I’m shuddering just thinking about those creeps.

What sort of things do they cut from Friends? I haven’t watched it since around the 2009 reruns Grin

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 27/04/2024 13:23

Forgot how horrible Charlie was at the start. I remember his later behaviour alright but he’s so creepy and aggressive and playing the happy charming chap all the while. Shudder.

Agree. He is vile.

Also - I don't know whether I have said this before, but I do NOT remember Shelley ever being with Charlie. Yet they are clearly together a good few months..
