Marking my place!

the80sweregreat · 30/01/2023 11:20

Double de clutch was maybe a red herring ?

SapphosRock · 30/01/2023 11:22

I have no idea how all the loose ends will be tied up in an hour! There is so much going on.

Janieread · 30/01/2023 11:23

I don't mind if Catherine dies now as she was so horrible to Claire. I thought it wasn't such a good episode tbh.

rubyslippers83 · 30/01/2023 11:23

Love this! Marking my place.

Bring on next Sunday 😬

RandomersAssociation · 30/01/2023 11:25

Thanks for new thread!

what will we all do? Exist as soul-less zombies until 🎉Succession🎉 returns in March …

Threadkillacilla · 30/01/2023 11:25

I'm ere.
Alison and ddc must be relevant somehow.

CuriousMama · 30/01/2023 11:27

Yes Alison must be involved surely? Unless she was just brought in so CC could borrow the car?

TrentCrimm · 30/01/2023 11:30

Marking my place with a c&p from end of last thread:

I'm a bit late but been away- there was some musing about the house that Rob and Joanna lived in- linky below to to an example of a house on that road

Teachers House (street not actual)

Claire would be dead to me after a betrayal that big.

MrsAvocet · 30/01/2023 11:34

I think Darius is key - but he will get away with everything because realistically, people at the head of organised crime do mostly escape justice. I think SW is too good a writer to end the series with all the loose ends neatly tied up and all the baddies getting their just desserts because real life isn't like that.
I can't decide whether Darius sprung TLR out of jail with the genuine intention of getting him out of the country but won't risk him being recaptured so will kill him if he thinks that's likely, or if he always intended to kill him. There were certainly lots of incidents last night where he was making it clear that he is the boss. TLR isn't really free and Darius holds all the cards.
Or, could it be that Darius wants the police to do his dirty work for him? He knows TLR is likely to go after Catherine and he knows the police will also know that and are (hopefully!) going to be waiting for him. Discouraging TLR from going for Catherine might actually be intended to goad him into definitely doing it, in the expectation he will get shot by a police marksman and be out of the way without Darius getting his hands dirty. And if he kills Catherine/Anne/Ryan/anyone else on the way, it's no skin of Darius's nose is it?

I felt that bit worked. They are such different personalities that it seemed likely there would have been a huge amount of tension between already them to the point where their relationship could not survive the betrayal.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 30/01/2023 11:37

My absolute favourite moment was TLR saying he had never been abroad.
It said so much about the lack of opportunity that has produced him and it feeds into his motivation as he is obviously secretly scared about going to Spain and that makes him more likely to risk that future in favour of his revenge on Catherine.

newnamethanks · 30/01/2023 11:41

It will be 70 minutes long. Reset your timers. DONT MISS THE LAST 10 MINUTES.

Maestro12 · 30/01/2023 11:44

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel - that’s what I just posted on the end of the other thread.

I think he’s genuinely scared of going abroad and not convinced he could go through with it. His home area is all he knows and he doesn’t have the ability to think beyond that - hence he’s always drawn back there.

PrincessScarlett · 30/01/2023 11:55

Rather than kill him, I wonder if Darius will use TLR to successfully win his election. He could be seen as the hero that captured TLR.

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/01/2023 11:55

Oh god. I have it all mixed up as been re watching s1&2

Could have sworn mums death was in s3

Ok

So Tommy has been in prison for 6yrs planning revenge over his mums death

As well as pissed off over the boat and Catherine kicking him

I will keep off the morphine while posting 😂

That moment in the van when TLR says he's never been abroad, and Darius' disbelief and laughter was some brilliant acting from JN. He switched in a moment from wide-eyed, almost childlike wonder at the thought of going abroad to the darkness descending when he thought Darius was laughing at him. I actually thought he might fuck it up for himself by lunging at Darius in that moment. In fact, you could sort of see that play out on his face: I want to lamp this prick for laughing at me, but I need him to get me out of this situation. Those kinds of characters HATE being laughed at.

Leftoverssandwich · 30/01/2023 11:59

TLR has been in prison for eight years. In series two he’d already been in for two. He was already furious with Catherine over what he saw as her keeping him from Ryan, so his mother’s death was just another thing.

You could see Tommy have a moment of cold fury when Darius laughed at his never having been abroad admission.

I missed the entire thread, was still catching up on the one before 😂

You’re right, it’s not just his lack of experience of ‘abroad’ but actually his horizon is even more local than that. He probably went to London once on a school trip and otherwise apart from prison has barely left the area.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 30/01/2023 12:04

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 30/01/2023 12:00

Yes!
Another reason why it was such a good line is it said so much about the power dynamic between them.
While Darius has the advantage over Tommy in so many ways I wasn’t entirely convinced Tommy wasn’t going to snap and murder Darius with his bare hands.

diddl · 30/01/2023 12:05

I think that Catherine feel so betrayed that she's fucked off with Ryan as well as Clare & Neil.

She's still trying to help Alison & tried to help Joanna so she's not all bad.

Part of me can't help thinking that Ryan will die & it will be TLR who does it.

Also, how is Catherine supposed to go travelling when she retires if Ryan is still only 16?

CuriousMama · 30/01/2023 12:06

I think Ryan will end TLR to put him out of his misery.

LavenderHillMob · 30/01/2023 12:09

I have a feeling that the last scene will be Catherine back in the graveyard putting flowers on Claire's grave. It's why she finally lost it with her.

Claire will get between Catherine and TLR. Just hope Claire takes TLR with her.

Other thoughts.

  • Tracing the tablets will happen even though it's bullocks. Pfizer would have removed the code or decanted the pills.
  • Chances of our Ryan getting to 16 without being told his history = zero. I was adopted in less extreme circumstances and everyone at primary knew my back story.
  • l liked the use of the in game chat to demonstrate that phones are not required to communicate. Hopefully some parents will take note.
  • flippantly, it's not entirely unreasonable when a teen tells them they love you to a) wonder what they have done now or b) wonder how much money they're after.
