I think Ryan will try to bump his dad off but Catherine will throw herself into his way and end up sacrificing herself to save Ryan and take TLR with him.

Onwayoutsoon · 30/01/2023 13:21

Just listened to a podcast - Grace Dent with James Norton, a really lovely listen, including the Happy Valley bits of course.

PrincessScarlett · 30/01/2023 13:22

As for gaming , this is how weirdos groom children aswell , I hope more people are now aware how easy it is to talk to anyone online through any Wi-Fi access @foxlover47

This with bells on!!! There have been a few posts that have been completely unaware how easy it is for kids to be contacted online and asking if messages can be saved etc etc. Kids are being contacted by randoms every single day online. I've sat with my child when they play Roblox and they are inundated with messages from people they don't know.

Maestro12 · 30/01/2023 13:23

As a very minor aside - did anyone else think TLR deliberately got the same haircut as Ryan when he was in prison?

AntonDuPig · 30/01/2023 13:41

Righto. Have rewatched now.
Darius laughing at TLR saying he’d never been abroad REALLY hit a nerve didn’t it.
Think he genuinely is not sold on the idea and it made him feel edgy and out of his comfort zone.
Watching it last night reminded me of a conversation between Catherine and Clare, I think way back in S1, when they knew TLR had been released but didn’t know his whereabouts.
Clare said something like he might even be around in the area but Catherine retorted that “He’s the sort who thinks Manchester is abroad, he wouldn’t know how to be anywhere else”.
The exchange really stuck out for me because Catherine then went on to say he’s like a rat, he’ll never be more than 3 feet away… then the scene changes to our first sighting of TLR lifting bags of sand at Ashley’s farm.

Oh wow well spotted!

I wish there was an award for a multi series drama to recognise the perfection achieved by this and very few other things in building a story over several series so that when it comes to the finale you feel it’s coming to an epic climax and drawing together all the threads. In contrast to the many things that can manage one or maybe two good series but then start jumping sharks. Breaking Bad managed it, Handmaid’s Tale didn’t. Last Tango In Halifax didn’t so it just shows how Sally Wainwright has got better and better.

Arrrggh!!
Meant to say Clare said he might NOT even be around in the area…

I want to know how TLR became cycling fit enough to get up that long drag faster than Chris Frome! And how he unclipped so effortlessly - I cycle lots and my legs would have been too jelly like to unclip at all.

I know what you mean. It is totally the dedication to details like this that makes it such a fabulous and intriguing watch.
Mind blowing to think S1 was filmed over 8 years ago yet the attention to detail is spot on.
(BTW, it is only because I binged on S1 & 2 recently that I recalled the scene so readily, I struggle to remember what I had for lunch yesterday at the best of times 😂)

bettytaghetti · 30/01/2023 14:03

Another example of Claire lying to Catherine as she admits in series 3 that TLR knows where she works as came in there when he was first released.

bettytaghetti · 30/01/2023 14:05

Sorry, that was in response to your post @AntonDuPig re discussion of TLR's whereabouts. Quote didn't work! 🤦‍♀️

Scarletpetunias · 30/01/2023 14:08

I’m now wondering if TLR wanted the gun to go after Alison as revenge because her son killed his mother. Maybe he wouldn’t for Catherine before trying to get Ryan out of the country?

In 'wrongly convicted for a crime he didn't commit' type movies they usually have a montage scene of the wrongly convicted man or woman doing sit ups and pull ups and running around the prison yard in the pouring rain. Maybe Tommy did lots of laps of his little cell.

Ooh yes @bettytaghetti she did didn’t she, in last night’s episode!

redspottedmug · 30/01/2023 14:12

Pretty sure that came up before though.

I'll get some good ones off my Ringtons man if you like? Best biscuits ever

We sing from the same hymn sheet Mama - I get mine from Rington's too! 😜

redspottedmug · 30/01/2023 14:19

Because right at the beginning of Series 1 Clare knew TLR a had been released from prison before Catherine did...another example of Clare pussy-footing around Catherine - or withholding information?

Mine's just been 🙂🍪

PrincessScarlett · 30/01/2023 14:21

I don't think TLR is bothered about getting revenge for his mum. He had an abusive childhood and used to beat his mum so there is no love lost there.

CuriousMama · 30/01/2023 14:22

@StrychnineInTheSandwiches congratulations on being last poster on last thread 🎉🎉🎉

@StrychnineInTheSandwiches sit ups and cell circuits wouldn't give him the cycling legs to get up that hill at that pace! Nor would the fear of being chased by all the policeman last seen running in the opposite direction Grin🤣🤣 I did love how the people who supplied him with the cycling gear also thoughtfully added a drinks bottle in a cage - Proper Planning that was 🤣🤣

Janieread · 30/01/2023 11:23

I don't mind if Catherine dies now as she was so horrible to Claire. I thought it wasn't such a good episode tbh.

It was well deserved IMO. Ex-addict/drunk Claire owes her life to Catherine. Catherine dragged Claire out of the gutter, went above and beyond to rescue and support her, over and over again.

redspottedmug · 30/01/2023 14:26

'I did love how the people who supplied him with the cycling gear also thoughtfully added a drinks bottle in a cage - Proper Planning that was 🤣🤣 '

I thought that, and they FILLED the bottle too. Such kindly gangsters!

AntonDuPig · 30/01/2023 14:26

Kirsten’s death genuinely shook me.
Her death, and that of Lucy Knight in er have been the ones which hit me in the gut and made me gasp in shock.
The horror of it stayed with me for days after watching it the first time round.
