Thinking about Claire, do we know why she was into drugs/drink? I know some people just fall into it but there's often a reason, i can't remember it being discussed, but she lapsed when Nev's wife died.

Kirsten’s death genuinely shook me.
Her death, and that of Lucy Knight in er have been the ones which hit me in the gut and made me gasp in shock.
The horror of it stayed with me for days after watching it the first time round.

Oh Lucy's death was awful wasn't it.
Dr Gant's death though is up there with my most shocking TV death though 🙁

ilovebrie8 · 30/01/2023 14:28

Just catching up from last night and we are on to another thread already. TLR came across as vulnerable in parts last night so not all good not all evil. I think that he genuinely loves Ryan. I don't think Ryan is setting him up....the van scene was brill between TLR and Darius and the exchange about him never having left the country! Darius warning him off taking any revenge etc wonder how it will all play out....gutted that Sunday is the end! This is one of best shows ever on TV Sarah Lancashire & James Norton are 2 of my all time faves and Siobhan Finneran!

TokyoSushi · 30/01/2023 14:31

Gosh you're on P5 already, checking in!

foxlover47 · 30/01/2023 14:33

@PrincessScarlett yes exactly what you said ! My daughter plays Roblox too it was certainly a eye opener all these random people wanting to add or join games etc , hopefully Tommy and Ryan have opened a lot of parents eyes last night to the dangers and how easy it is

longtompot · 30/01/2023 14:36

I think Catherine's rant at Clare is probably nothing compared to what Clare has said to her when under the influence of drugs and or alcohol.

TLR is only interested in Ryan and Cathrine and anyone else is just in the way. I can almost picture the final scene where Ryan has a choice to go in the van with his dad or go with his gran in her Land Rover.

I don't think the Darius story will be resolved. He has a whole other life of trying to be seen as the upstanding member of the community with his councillors election bid. I think a lot of things won't be resolved for the viewer as it is written in a way where we aren't told everything, just the stuff we need to know.

I was a bit shocked at Ann's rant, but dh said it made sense as it made Ryan much more wary during their chat. I got the feeling Ryan was trying to find out info on where his dad is.

One thing, and I think I must have misheard, but I thought it was Neil who said he had a place in Spain, after hearing where TLR was going I thought ahh there IS a link between them. But if it's Nev who has it, then I doubt there would be.

My dh watched last nights with me and wondered if beetroot man is Darius dad? It looked like he deals with a lot of the crime gangs members and takes no shit from them.

I am looking forward to next weeks episode, but also not as it means it really is over. I wonder if some of the episode will be set on the next day and then some showing 6 months in the future?

TokyoSushi · 30/01/2023 14:39

That extra 10 minutes might be the 6 months in the future part, like when they were all walking up the hill at the end of S2.

WiddlinDiddlin · 30/01/2023 14:39

Late to these threads...

I can't imagine Darius has any actual use for TLR, he's far more of a liability than anything else and Darius is smart enough to know that.

I do think TLR thinks he love Ryan, I think that Darius is using that, and this pie in the sky fantasy of Ryan and TLR living happily ever after in Marbs, as a carrot - and TLR is less likely to see through it as a result.

All the time TLR has known about Ryan he's clung to the 'im his dad' thing, 8 years in prison is plenty of time to spin all sorts of fantasy that the inmate ends up believing and Ryan visiting and generally being open and welcoming to him will have fed that. Of course TLR doesn't really know what being a real Dad is like, he doesn't know real love, only possession and control.

TokyoSushi · 30/01/2023 14:42

The thing that often bothers me about TLR and Ryan is that Catherine always, always says with such conviction 'he's not his Dad.' Might TLR find out something about that at the end?

CaptainMyCaptain · 30/01/2023 14:45

blobby10 · 30/01/2023 13:58

I want to know how TLR became cycling fit enough to get up that long drag faster than Chris Frome! And how he unclipped so effortlessly - I cycle lots and my legs would have been too jelly like to unclip at all.

Do they have gyms in prisons? He could have been on the exercise bike.

I think she means that despite being his biological father he has played no caring role and that's what makes a 'Dad'.

I think it's more he is his father but not his dad. I think if Catherine had any thoughts of him not being his biological father she would have arranged for a paternity test, just to get him out of their lives.

KangarooKenny · 30/01/2023 14:47

I think Ryan will dob him in. When TLR said that Ryan is all he’s got, I felt a power switch to Ryan.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 30/01/2023 13:11

Mind if I join in? I knew there'd be a thread on this 😊

Anyone else catch TLR saying TELEPHOME to borscht man?

Can't wait for next week's episode!

Yes me!!

Ditto!

Beetroot Man will turn out to be a mean motherfucker who skins men for fun.

the80sweregreat · 30/01/2023 15:05

Beetroot man was hard as nails
He will make Royce pay for being such a prick with him
I hope !

Finale prediction:
Becky’s headstone doesn’t mention ‘mother to Ryan’. Whenever they went to the grave Ryan was playing football nearby and has not been near the actual grave.

I assume that it will be added in the final moments of the last show.

Yes TLR's mum was murdered by Alison's son.

Perhaps Alison will play a part in the demise of TLR. They must have brought her back for something.

Yep. Also when TLR told him his plans - time and place.

I got very excited when Nev mentioned about flying everyone to Majorca, imagining TLR turning up in the same place, then I realised he'd said Marbella.

Ohwhatarelief · 30/01/2023 15:18

Janieread · 30/01/2023 11:23

I don't mind if Catherine dies now as she was so horrible to Claire. I thought it wasn't such a good episode tbh.

She was horrible but in her shoes I’d be the same. Her description of Claire was spot on, and it’s testament to Siobhan Finneran’s acting that she comes across as an empty vessel. Claire truly is a stupid woman

I thought that. I never thought he was at risk from TLR, quite the other way round. He'll be covered in prison tats and tear drops for the many man he killed both in and out of the worst hell holes on earth. He made the same borscht as the wind blew snow through the boards in the gulag. His knife has run red with more than the juice of old beetroot.

Still can't work out why Darius gives a rats arse about TLR. He gave some fake evidence to the police to implicate a gangland rival - useful. But hardly a service that gets you a new life at great risk to the OCG. I had thought they've sprung him to do a job. Or maybe they've sprung him because he has to die at the hands of one he has wronged. Cue Nev as the OCG King in the North. That Bentley ain't cheap.

Seriously, it is utterly brilliant and very disturbing. The awful banality of some of the crimes such as Pfizer's panicked murder.

I've never wanted to watch seasons 1 and 2 again, some parts are excruciating in what they bring up for me. I'm glad it's ending, always leave them wanting more.

Inkanta · 30/01/2023 15:24

I hope the last episode is focussed on TLR, Ryan and Catherine. Not needing the other story lines or more Alien filler which took up too much time.

I don’t think it’s surprising really that they didn’t put mother on the gravestone. Becky was forced into motherhood due to her rape.

WiddlinDiddlin · 30/01/2023 15:25

Anyone think that murdering Joanna gave Faisal a bit of an ego boost - when he deals with Joannas wanker husband (forgot his name) after the rear end shunt, he seems to have grown a pair of bollocks previously totally absent!

I wonder what his plan was... he can't have thought there was any chance of getting her body out of that garage, so he had to think Jo's twat husband would find it and likely be implicated in her murder... has he done anything to set him up?

I can totally understand Catherines reaction to Claire and what she's said to her, shes put up with SO much, shes got so fucking much going on, all the time, carrying everyone, the only one with a brain cell between her ears 90% of the time... and then she finds out Claire has betrayed her and done something so monumentally fucking stupid... I think I'd have punched her, not just said something nasty!
