Honestly,they're so bad they're good 🤣

Lifetime movies, need I say more 😉

Lots of memories of reading these books at school, those books were well thumbed 😂😂

They're on Paramount.

😂.. love it

ShirleyHolmes · 24/10/2022 11:03

Agree. They are dire but I love them. Waiting for the new FITA sequel to be shown, it has been filmed but not called Garden of Shadows like the books.

Have your seen the equally dire (great!) Heaven series and My Sweet Audrina too?

JohnsShirt · 24/10/2022 11:33

They're brilliant, so bad they're good.
I loved all the books when I was young.

No I've read them though 🤣

I'm watching it now and Christopher said to Corin " Stay away or I'll have you locked up again, I'm a doctor now ,I have those powers " The drama!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I watched these when they first came out. Awful but oddly watchable like the books!

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 24/10/2022 11:39

We all loved the Virginia Andrew’s books when I was at school 30 years ago. Though weird to think we were all obsessed over what were mostly incestuous relationships!

ShirleyHolmes · 24/10/2022 11:43

I was a bit gutted though that they ditched the relationship between Cathy and Paul in the film. I guess a 15 year old shagging a 40 year old doctor was not seen as Ok (although fine for her to shag her brother 😂). Plus we didn’t get the backstory of Paul’s first wife Julia and son Scotty. Maybe next time!

automne · 24/10/2022 11:44

Small point amidst the drama and incest, but the big focus was Cathy's beautiful golden, super long hair - VA devoted paragraphs upon paragraphs describing it and how others were in awe of it. The actress who played her had quite ordinary hair by comparison. <Tuts>

The ballet was also important, but that was badly and hastily done.

Where are we up to with the film versions? I can remember the awful Julian appearing last of all.

Oh yes, I remember all the descriptions of her hair!!

Also hilarious the the actress who plays Cathy on the third one is nice looking enough but isn't exactly beautiful!

I'm the opposite and glad they replaced Dr Paul with a more elderly, benign man. That's how it should have been!
I thought the Paul and Cathy relationship was quite awful, even borderline abusive. The book described how he stared at her golden hair (the hair again!) on their first meeting when she was just 15. He accepted them into his house after his housekeeper brought them in off the street, obviously.

That might've been an inappropriate shag too far even for Lifetime movies!

True. There was nothing wrong with either of the actresses and their looks or hair, but VA raved on and on about the exceptional hair and beauty that it didn't quite fit.

kinderbuenomilkshake · 24/10/2022 11:54

Omg I used to read these series as a young teen -realising some of the themes are disturbing! Butttt, off to check out this series!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 24/10/2022 11:55

Aren't they loosely based on a true story?

ShirleyHolmes · 24/10/2022 11:57

Oh I completely agree that P and C’s relationship was creepy and abusive. He was a total creep, and the storyline relating to his first wife confirmed that. I just wanted to see how they would depict it!

It wasn't any more inappropriate than brother and sister shagging, not sure why they cut it out.

I also wondered how they would depict the creepy Dr Paul. The incest was more explicit this time compared to the older film version where it was just hinted at really.

I didn't think I saw the original FITA, who was in it?

I'm on Seeds of Yesterday now, the swan bed is strangely disappointing, I remember it being described in great detail in the books! Looks like a kid's Disney bed on the film 🤣

Apparently it was this one https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/FlowersinntheAtticc(1987_film)

I don't recognise any of the names. It's awful of course as you'd expect! This one goes off-book a bit more.

EHopes · 24/10/2022 13:51

This is a dangerous site.

I had seen the old version, and it wasn't terribly wonderful. So I just found the 2014 one and it satisfied all the itches and brought back every single memory of being 14 and reading the book (how did those books get into schools so easily?)

JohnsShirt · 24/10/2022 13:55

I've just started watching Heaven!
