Having lived in Jersey for 26 years, I’m loving the way the island is being shown but OMG the women are just cringe!

Thoughts anyone?

I watched the first episode. I'm a bit confused as they all look at bit similar at the moment. They seem like quite an interesting mix, though, and most of them are successful in their own right (though I could be wrong!). The motorbike riding naturopath
looks interesting.

Winniewonka · 30/12/2020 14:14

I'm watching as I love Jersey and spent many a happy holiday there as a child. We always stayed just outside Gorey. It looks as beautiful as I remember it but my goodness these women are something else.
I agree the motorbike woman seems the most genuine but I have only watched two episodes so far. I'm shocked that brunette Kate is only 50 and I really can't fathom Tess at all. She's only lived there for 5 years and acts like she owns the island.

Winniewonka · 30/12/2020 14:16

Also does anyone else think Jane looks like a blonde Susanna Reid?

Iamthewombat · 30/12/2020 14:20

I am.

Enough of them describe themselves as ‘straight talking’ to suggest that we will see some good arguments. Bring it on.

Hedi reminds me strongly of Coronation Street’s Ivy Tilsley/Lynne Perrie. I am so pleased that she is a practitioner of holistic alternative health bollix.

I quite like Kate, to my surprise. She’s the dark haired one going through a divorce.

HedgieHog · 30/12/2020 14:20

Only seen a trailer but I recognised Tess (just looked her up) her daughter is always on TikTok and is a desperate pop star wannabe. Daughter is called Talia Storm 🙄
Whole family often on her TikTok clearly all desperate for fame

ememem84 · 30/12/2020 14:26

i've only watched the first episode. i live here, and am loving how the island has been shown. it is so beautiful.

the people however.... yikes!

the thing that's going round facebook and on local media here though is a search to find the "hero" who pulled his shorts down in the scene where kate arrives at Margarets party on the jetski. if you pause it you can just make it out! Suns out bums out! Smile

the one good thing is that maybe the island will get an influx of (covid free) tourists in the summer...

abbey44 · 30/12/2020 17:53

I watched the first one, out of curiosity as I used to live in Jersey and knew a couple of the women on it. After ten minutes, my toes were curling so hard I had to switch it off. But then, FOMO got me and I binge watched the rest of them. What's a car crash it is Grin. Absolutely compulsive. But the scenery is beautiful - just how I remember Jersey.

Bloatedandconfused · 30/12/2020 23:54

I've watched them all so I wont give you any spoilers but my god do they all need stylists. Especially Mrs "I'm a doctor of fashion" - whatever the f%€k that is. How was your day darling? Well I had to surgically remove a bumbag from an 85 year old woman. It was touch and go but I think she'll pull through....
I've seen Talia Storm on other shows and for some reason she makes me cringe like no other. I suspect they're on the show to get exposure for her career. I did a bit of research and apparently she handed her demo tape to Elton John in a restaurant at 13 years old. Hmmmmm???? Can hardly see Elton John, known for his diva strops, allowing a teenage girl to interrupt his caviar and scallops with a tape of her wailing Christina Aguilera songs can you? She also got her big acting break in an animated movie - that Dr Fashion wrote and produced (financed) and Mr Fashion directed. What's that word? Starts with "nepo" ends with "tism"

Maireas · 31/12/2020 09:04

I've seen the second episode, Jersey is beautiful - I've never been and thought the scenery was gorgeous. Margaret, the Scottish woman with the little dogs seems lovely. She's obviously supportive of Kate, who is funny and surprisingly down to earth!

Grooticle · 31/12/2020 09:38

We’re watching it as considering a move there - it’s not showing the people of jersey in a great light so far but I guess it’s not very representative!

FilledSoda · 31/12/2020 09:42

It's mad !
I hate watch it and the Chelsea one.

No it’s not!!!! (Either representative or showing the people in a great light).

What it is doing is showing the island at its most beautiful. I think they filmed here in July/august. And it was glorious.

Although two days ago we were down in the bay and this was the scene. Equally beautiful. My pic does not do the sea justice. It was grumpy and angry and wild. Beautiful.

And some cows from my run this morning....

Londoncatshed · 31/12/2020 12:00

I’m isolating (bored) and have watched them all. A couple of the women come out of it well; surprisingly Kate seems a very genuine and lovely person. Tessa not so much, very judgemental and likes to think she’s the queen bee.
Were some of them told to talk very slowly in their interviews?
My god, the fashion sense. It’s not exactly Beverly Hills 🤣 I know that’s very mean and I’m sure I wouldn’t come across as a fashion icon but it is cringe worthy.

Maireas · 31/12/2020 13:41

I agree with pp about the lack of style/fashion sense. Just awful, but then I hate big floral prints and sugar pink, so it's not my thing anyway. There must be decent hairdressers on Jersey, though?! Confused

Grooticle · 31/12/2020 14:12

@ememem84 - thank you, what lovely photos! It does look beautiful there.

Yep!!

Kate made a huge thing about how everyone here has heard of her. Nope. i've lived here all my life and never heard of her before. the only two i'd heard of are Margaret (because i viewed a house with her once) and Ashley (because she's married to my friends husbands brother).

my bosses wife has noticed that one of the necklaces she sells in her shop was on the show though. not sure who wore it...

i watched them do some filming and they tried to close one of the roads so they could visit a shop in town. I had an appointment with my nail lady near the shop. they told me i couldn't go through. i went anyway because had an appointment and the road wasn't really closed. they were also heckled by teenagers hanging about outside mcdonalds. which was funny, but also not funny.

Bloatedandconfused · 31/12/2020 14:33

I have to agree about Kate. I thought I was going to hate her but she's lovely. The monstrous headbands and the waste length hair is terrible though. What I do like about them all is that they don't seem to have overdone it with the fillers and botox....yet. If a second season gets commissioned I expect we'll see a lot of -tweeks- changes.
And yes, me criticising the fashion choices is a bit poor form given I'm no Kate Moss and I refuse to accept I'm probably too old to dress the way I do but I'm not on tv. And if I was it would probably be as an extra in All Creatures Great and Small Grin

MrsDoctorDear · 31/12/2020 14:42

Watched the first episode, it was dire!
The interviews to camera were excruciating, the scripted slow reading from the auto cue.

Can't believe Kate is 52, she has the look of Kate O'Mara. Granny face with false teeth in.

Definitely too painful to watch.

I love Jersey btw, spent many holidays there.

Maireas · 31/12/2020 15:24

"an extra in All Creatures Great and Small"!
Grin
I think if you're self promoting on this kind of reality tv show, you have loads of money and time, it's fair to say that your style will be commented on! However, they obviously wear what they want, so that's fine, I just like a bit of fashion eye candy!

Bloatedandconfused · 31/12/2020 15:59

Exactly @Maireas. The whole point of these shows is that we're supposed to be envious of their fabulous lifestyles and everything that goes with hit. Watching an albeit very attractive woman in her 50's dress in a outfit that's saloon girl 1856/Day of the dead headdress and try and pass it off as "festival vibes" is beyond me.
I'm being overly critical I know. In my defence, I've got the Rona. I'm 10 days in and I'm climbing the walls.

Maireas · 31/12/2020 16:08

Ooh, I hope you get better soon Bloatedandconfused! How miserable. I know what you mean. I like to look at these women with vast amounts of disposable incomes and leisure time and like to think they could wear stuff that I can't! Oh well.

JustAGirlFromHoe · 31/12/2020 20:53

Here’s the photo of the chap pulling down his trunks when Kate arrived at Margaret’s party; even made the local paper 😅😅😅

I wasn’t expecting to like Kate but she is fab, says it like it is but has a heart of gold.

Without giving too much away, I have binge watched it all, I think Mia gets a hard time for a confession that she makes about something she did 20-odd years ago but they had to make something contentious for the show.

Hedi has turned out to be a right stirrer, dropping remarks here and there to rile everyone up but it is so heavily scripted!

Tessa’s husband owns the company that makes this and RHOC so they are obviously using this as a platform to push her talentless daughter’s career.

If this show was about a group of men and they treated the waitress like the women treated Tiago the waiter, there would be an outcry. All a bit sleazy and very cringeworthy.

One of Hedi’s daughter is an incredibly talented artist and does beautiful tableware. I was expecting to see her stuff being featured on the show but it isn’t, probably too classy 😂

Jersey looks incredible and we did have a great summer. More shots of the beaches with families on would have been better if we want to attract more normal tourists next year but any publicity has to be good. We do have amazing beaches though!

Of course, if they do a second series, I’ll be watching it 😂😂😂

I think they look bloody freezing a lot of the time! There’s a hilarious shot of them sauntering down King’s Street in their summer gear surrounded by passers-by in coats and even scarves. Before they go and do their department store shopping with the camera angles careful to avoid the High Street shopping logos.

It’s lacklustre. With the best will in the world, you can’t compare Jersey to anywhere bigger. I assume originally they were going to be filmed on trips off the island and got a bit trapped. I live in Jersey. There is almost nowhere to shop if you want to spend money (one of them lives a few doors down from me and has been complaining bitterly about the lack of places to buy clothes), there are very few high end places to go out, and their social circles on island will be tiny. They will all spend loads of time in London and abroad normally.

I know none of them (our new ‘neighbour’ moved in to film as it’s a big house, but it’s been empty for over a year before that) but have a good friend who knows Kate and Hedi very well, and says Kate is being a more wholesome version of herself, and Hedi is amazing and coming across worse than she’d expected. I met someone today who has been on the show, as a tradesperson, who said they were absolutely vile to each other when the camera wasn’t on.

Iamthewombat · 01/01/2021 15:48

Tessa’s husband owns the company that makes this and RHOC so they are obviously using this as a platform to push her talentless daughter’s career.

We won’t be seeing ol’ Tessa making an exhibition of herself then!
