Having lived in Jersey for 26 years, I’m loving the way the island is being shown but OMG the women are just cringe!

Thoughts anyone?

Tessa's husband was really likeable , although if he had control over his limited screen time that's to be expected I suppose.
I do watch these awful programs for the clothes and bags mostly and I'm a bit dismayed . I bet if they get another season it'll be different . If anyone is watching Dallas they absolutely transform from how they were at the start .

myredtrousers · 01/01/2021 21:34

If Tessa is coming across this badly, with her husband's production company giving her as much favourable editing as possible, then she must be pretty awful in real life. She comes across as incredibly judgemental and arrogant.

The programme is so bad, but I can't stop watching it!

OVienna · 01/01/2021 21:36

What channel is this on?

OVienna · 01/01/2021 21:37

Just found it. Google defaulted to New Jersey...

bringle · 01/01/2021 21:40

It makes me want to visit Jersey but the characters seem very dated, they look older then there are & crap fashion. I want glamour & aspiration!

bringle · 01/01/2021 21:44

I stopped that after the first one because they looked so dreadful. May go back & check it out.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 01/01/2021 21:55

The one who lives down the road from me was seen wearing a long dress with a mesh cut out over her arse. My neighbour told me she steered her daughter away, for fear of having to answer difficult questions.

ImInStealthMode · 01/01/2021 22:25

Oh I'm so glad there's a thread on this! I live in Jersey and the local reaction hasn't been great, to say the least. Really interested to see the reaction of people who don't live here.

To my shame I've binged it all and came out thinking that I'd like a night out with Margaret, Ashley and Kate. I think they'd be fun (I've actually had a drink with Kate before and she really is). The rest of them though, no thanks.

I think in another time it might have been seen more favourably, but the fact they filmed all these fake parties while the 'real' residents of Jersey weren't allowed to meet each other is a bit sickening to be honest. There's also been a big scandal about the wrap party being a hot-bed of covid, although I'm not sure how much truth is in that. Doesn't help the reaction though!

Would like to add that Tiago in episode 6/7 is an absolute star and I was delighted to see him get a little role! Looking forward to the days when I can get a little cuddle along with my cocktail again Wink

myredtrousers · 01/01/2021 22:46

Stealth I did wonder about the parties! I did assume that Jersey was doing much better than the UK but it seemed a bit odd to have all these gatherings of what looked to be at least 30 people.

I'm interested to see the reactions of local people. Are the women as well known on the island as they sometimes imply?

The show does nothing to portray great fashion sense, and some of the characters are awful, but the shots of the island do look beautiful.

Waves at stealth and daily

OVienna · 01/01/2021 23:30

I am very curious about the islands- this is maybe the only housewives I'd watch all the way through. The people seen artificially thrown together, apart from Margaret and Kate. There also seem to be a lot of expats on it as well. I'd be curious from the Jersey people on this thread- are they that well integrated?

TickleMyTitsTilFriday · 02/01/2021 00:37

I'm so glad I found you! I have a burning question that has been bothering me about this show... where's all the corona? The masks? The social distancing? I can't find any explanation for it at all!

Dailyhandtowelwash · 02/01/2021 03:43

We had very low corona numbers for most of the year and only started wearing masks here very recently when our numbers rocketed - allegedly after the wrap party for this show, but I have it on pretty good authority that this isn’t quite true. Our social distancing was at 1m all summer; if you watch you’ll see they never actually really touch. And we could have up to 40 people inside at a formal event or 20 informally. All gone now; we’re basically Tier 4 nowadays.

Schoolisback1973 · 02/01/2021 03:45

Just binged all 10 episodes!
Wow the fashion!! So outdated. Sports Leggings and boots? Chanel suits and long boots?Shock so 90s!
Talia, that pony tail !! Ridiculous
I enjoyed the drama but did wonder about COVID. They 'self distanced' but did have diners , long stays together. Didn't make sense.

From what I know of the ex ot community they do all seem to keep themselves to themselves (the high net worth ones anyway). If you’re “one of those” then locate to jersey organise things for you. So welcome parties etc where you meet other hnw people. I know this because in my job I deal with locate jersey a lot.

If you’re just a “regular Joe” like me and mive across I’d say there is a lot of integration.

It’s a fab place to live though. And bring up kids. Safe. Clean. Beautiful.

Maireas · 02/01/2021 07:54

It does look like a beautiful island.
Tell us about fashion and style, though - is the shopping not good? Do you tend to buy online, or go across to the mainland? I'm trying to work out why those women look so bad. What do stylish Jersey people do?

happilybemused · 02/01/2021 10:25

I went to Jersey at the start of August and can confirm if was pretty much life as usual.

No mask wearing, bars, restaurants, gyms, spa, shops all open.

Cases very low and all visitors tested on arrival (although I'd been and gone before receiving the result)

Shopping was not brilliant and so I assume most residents pop over to London for clothes.

Not sure where they are filming mind you. I was mainly in the south and everywhere was packed. Are they in St Martins ?

ememem84 · 02/01/2021 10:54

Shopping isn’t brilliant here. But when we take trips away I tend to shop in places we don’t have (Zara being one. Primark and H&M others for the basics). Most things we can order online.

ImInStealthMode · 02/01/2021 11:23

The shopping is pretty dire. We have a few high street names but some notable absences, and a few small boutiques, most of which are out of my price bracket. I dream of the day I can go to London or Southampton or Rennes for the weekend with an empty suitcase Grin

With regards covid and distancing in the show, we were 'normalish' in the early summer, but I remember my friends 40th at the end of June having to be adjusted from a restaurant lunch for 20 to a garden party for 10 at the last moment, and we weren't allowed in the house (thankfully the host has a loo accessible from outside!). Makes me a bit sad that she had to axe half of her guests but it's fine to film a big indoor fake party as in the last episode Hmm

Dailyhandtowelwash · 02/01/2021 12:07

The rules must have eased after June. I think we went down to Level 1 in July? So numbers for gatherings got bigger then.

I am an incomer and have a mix of Jersey and non-Jersey friends. But I am pretty normal.

The shopping here makes me want to cry quite often. It’s so bad, particularly for kids clothes and shoes for everyone. (I may be feeling quite cabin fevered right now!)

ImInStealthMode · 02/01/2021 12:15

@Dailyhandtowelwash That rings a bell. I think maybe we were anticipating a change to come earlier but it didn't get announced in time thus my friend having to change plans at the 11th hour.

Same as you, I've been here 16 years and my friends are a broad mix of local and 'incomers' from all over the world. I love it, I'd never have such a diverse group of people to learn from and the travel experiences they've given me had I stayed back home in the north.

Maireas · 02/01/2021 12:16

That makes sense about the shopping, which is a shame! How about hairdressers? Do you have good hairdressers, or again, do you have to travel?

ImInStealthMode · 02/01/2021 12:21

@Maireas Personally I'm not super fussy about my hair so others might disagree but I think we have some good hairdressers about. I do know at least 2 ladies who use a UK hairdresser but travel there regularly enough to slot in appointments around other things, rather than travelling exclusively for their appointments IYSWIM. They must look like absolute horrors at this stage though GrinWink

Maireas · 02/01/2021 12:40

Thanks for the info, it's interesting. I don't have my hair coloured or "styled" as such, but I do pay a lot for a good cut, as I have poker straight hair cut in a blunt bob. I certainly missed that upkeep in lockdown!

I get my hair cut in the UK. I’m not remotely high maintenance but don’t trust people with it after many nightmares in my youth. I had it cut in Jersey for the first time this year, after getting many recommendations, and my daughter’s first words were ‘Mummy, you look like a Nanna!’. I know plenty of people with nice hair here though so assume I was just unlucky.

Normally flights to the UK are cheap, frequent and fast, so anyone with the time and money can be in central London two hours after arriving at the airport and it doesn’t matter. I think I read that the housewives were originally going to be filmed off the island quite a bit.
