Nooooo, not Mrs bright. I haven't been reading the thread until is caught up. Anton Lesser is astonishingly good. I adore him. But I want to shake Morse and Thursday.

I wonder if the next series will jump a couple of years or so and maybe focus on Morse's return to TVP after his spell at Kiddlington? Possibly with a promotion to inspector. His return could see that strange has progressed further and maybe Thursday could be retired or in the brink of retirement. I suppose, depending on the time frame, we could even see a young PC Lewis?

I'm so disappointed there were only three episodes to this season. Vera was only 4 too. You spend months waiting for the new series and then you get 3 or 4 measly episodes.
Ludo was dodgy from the start. He made me think of a love bomber. He rode over Morse's boundaries and seemed false all along.
Fantastic casting.

Morse didn't meet Lewis till the first episode of Morse...

@Elderflower14

Sorry, should have made myself clear, I didn't mean for Morse to meet Lewis as such, more that he might be a 'lowly' uniform constable on the periphery of a case - holding back a crowd for example, the sort of person who wouldn't really register with Morse.

But Lewis came down from Newcastle so unlikely to be down in Oxford except as a tourist/visitor. I think. Could be wrong.

There were 33 episodes of Morse, Kevin Whately refused to do more episodes of Lewis than there had been of Morse, so 33 there too.

We've currently had 27 Endeavours . . .

I've heard that they agreed that they won't make more Endeavours than there are Morses and Lewises. So a nice & juicy 6 parter where perhaps we've jumped forward a little bit and he's coming back to Oxford? It would be nice for us to at least see McNutt, I think.

I'd also love another incarnation on some form, somewhere closer to him becoming John Thaw, focusing on the divergence between Morse & Strange.

The casting of McNutt will be interesting as it was Iain Cuthbertson, a tall, imposing Scottish actor with a distinctive voice, who played the role in Morse. He played Charlie Endell, Adam Faith’s boss in Budgie , a 70s drama/comedy series, and Jenny Agutter’s daddy in The Railway Children.

I usually love this and the acting is great but by about half way through this episode it all went totally over the top and DH actually gave up watching it as he thought it was so implausible. So disappointing.

I have read that Roger Allam is very keen that Fred goes out with a bag, possibly literally, which will mean tears from me and many other Mnetters I suspect. The man's voice makes me melt.

It was a bit ridiculous but I still enjoyed it. I love Roger Allam and haven't seen him in anything else but then I don't watch much tv unless there's something I'm really into.

Bercows have you heard Cabin Pressure? It’s a very funny radio series with Roger Allam, Benedict Cumberbatch as pilots for MJN Air company owned by Stephanie Cole , assisted by John Finnemore who wrote the series. It’s brilliant

Cabin Pressure is well worth a listen if you can find it - often repeated on Radio 4 Extra.
For those missing Anton Lesser's voice he's going to be reading Hilary Mantel's 'The Mirror and the Light' on Radio 4 from 16th March - he's also in several of the dramas on Radio 4 Extra (e.g. 'Falco)

I thought that there had already been 30 eps of Endeavour?

Cabin Pressure is fabulous!

Roger Allam was in a Morse ep, wasn't he-the one where Morse's name is revealed?

For those of you wondering about Morse going to Kidlington and how/when he returns to Oxford, Kidlington is a large village just outside Oxford and is where the TVP headquarters are now, so he isn't going far.

For all the Allam fans - he has his own web site! all-allam.com/

Thanks for Kiddlington info, I was very concerned about how they would manage the move (and him just settled in his flat).

Still think it unbelievable that he had that Jag. Everyone would have taken the p* out of him!

If they do another three-part series that would take the total Morse/Lewis/Endeavour tally of episodes to 99. Could they do a special as number 100, do you think?

A very young Roger Allam (or Douglas as he's known in our house) was in the college one with Richard Briers as a horrid creepy Master. "Death is now my Neighbour."

I'm re-listening to Falco with Anton Lesser atm, sadly there seems to be only the 1st 5 books as full-cast dramatisations.

Oh yes, that's the one -couldn't remember what it was called.

Also has one of the McGann brother in?

They should do a series about Strange.

Strange has always been part of the Morse/Endeavour story arcs though, so unlikely writers would think he'd warrant a series of his own?

If they did anything else it would surely be 'Hathaway'. However, with Laurence Fox having blotted his copybook recently with his 'tell it as he sees it' anti and un-woke comments, that doesn't seem likely.

Report
diddl · 05/03/2020 14:31

I'd watch a "Hathaway"!

I enjoyed Lewis-although he was morphed into Morse somewhat!

Hathaway was also similar to Morse though wasn't he?

Report
NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 05/03/2020 15:47

Yes, you are right about Hathaway being like 'Endeavour' except for the love interests (I cannot recall H ever having so much as a kiss) and didn't he complete his Oxford degree? Hathaway is still quite 'monk' like despite having left sacred orders behind.
