I knew Mrs Bright was doomed as soon as she mentioned Christmas tree and something special for dinner.....

@CoolCarrie that's how I'm going to interpret it. I wish Morse had never let her go to Leamington!
I have to say I think every one of the regular cast was at their top of their game this series. I thought that last year as well so goodness knows what to expect next year.
When the series ends (Sad) I cant wait to see what they all do next, especially Shaun Evans and Sean Rigby/

Still thinking about how the next / last series if it is meant to take him up to the start of Morse, what is he going to do about his flat?! It's definitely the one in Morse, but the implication is that with his fallout with Fred he is off to Kiddlington(?) to work for McNutt.

And kept thinking how inappropriate his car was for someone with his rank.

But I still cant see how he morphs into Morse. Endeavour is almost like (and I know some people dislike this phrase but I dont know any other one) someone who is somewhere on the spectrum. He is so closed in on himself.

Morse had a chip on his shoulder but was also very arrogant and confident socially. In a way he enjoyed being the isolated superior being. Endeavour seems not totally in control.

Also, in the Morse series the woman who broke Morse's heart is the one he was engaged to, but who broke it off because her family didn't think he was good enough.

There hasn't really been any of that angle in Endeavour. There is only the fact that his colleagues see him as smug and superior. In Morse he is constantly being put down by Professors etc., as someone who has failed in life for not finishing his college education and for being in the police.

Enjoyed it, despite the implausibilities, but yes I wondered at how the flamboyant Italian couple could go around nobbling ladders, balconies etc, and not being rather conspicuous!

I had wondered if there was supposed to be something between Morse & Joan this series & it would have been that that caused the rift?

Wasn't it last series that ended with an indication that they might get together?

Or was that a previous one?

At one point I thought that Strange might usurp Morse in Joan's affections.

Agree about the guns in the finale although Thursday may well have had one from his war years (and of course he spoke Italian). Not so sure about Morse though.

The insurance thing was in a CSI New York as well. I think it's appeared in several novels/programmes.

A very busy episode, I enjoyed it but they could have done a bit less and I would have enjoyed it just as much. If that makes sense.

Anton Lesser is the most brilliant actor. Everyone is fab. It was good to see Strange develop (really like this actor) and the scene where he and Max ticked off Morse and Thursday was great. Also love Abigail Thaw in this.

I’d love to see a few episodes focusing on Strange’s rise through the force.

I hope they have a longer series next time. I understand why this one was short given the ongoing story arcs but feel very short-changed.

I don't think we'll see Anton again. He's a wonderful actor.

Oh no if Anton Lesser isn't in it again. What would a man like him do once his wife has died - he seems to have no other family.

Anton Lesser is just too fabulous for words!

When he was told about his wife & he tried to phone her-it was so real somehow.

And asking Thursday to apologise to Morse for him when Morse had been so bloody awful to mention that he thought that Mrs Bright had been murdered.

And him on his own on Christmas Day in his tie & tank topSad

Such a gent of a bygone era.

I have a friend whose DF (ex military) really reminds me of Bright. The actress who played his wife reminded me very much of Susan George.

@CanIHaveATiaraPlease I think that would be a perfect storyline for the next series.

I just cant imagine how, if the next series is the last, it is all in a different location which means, no Bright, no Thursday, no Strange, no Pathologist.

If Morse goes off to Kiddlington(?) on 4 January will there be a totally new cast.

Joan ended it with Morse because of his lack of empathy or his ability to show it. (And in my opinion because he's a snob and always goes after arty, upper class types) Also thought the letter when he wrote too her as "Miss Thursday" indicated his respect for her as his DI's daughter but not much else.

Also, from reading a what are the links Morse, Lewis, Endeavour, the jump from the end of the next Endeavour will be 17 years, as they are basing it on when the tv series started not when the books were first published.

So a lot of time for Endeavour to become Morse.

But cant imagine a series without the other main characters.

We learned that Morse was engaged to a woman played by Joanna David (RL wife of Edward Fox) in "Dead in Time".

She fell in love with his friend and married him instead. That was supposed to be the love of his life.

@CanIHaveATiaraPlease yy fabulous idea, would so love to see Strange’s rise through the ranks would make another really good strand to the Endeavour/Morse story.
Bit left field but I was watching an old New Tricks last night & Anton Lesser popped up as a cockney villain was very surreal.

The actress who plays Joan Thursday had a baby recently so that’s why she wasn’t involved in this series.

I'm watching episode 2 and 3 that I'd recorded. The perfect way to spend a cold February day. I love it so much.

I think Morse is rubbish with women because he doesn't see us as people. Women are romantic fantasy figures like opera heroines. He knew very little about green dress woman and just fancied her because she was pretty, posh and attending an opera.
It's all very superficial.
