That's interesting because I mostly prefer this Morse, at least up to this series.

I've been watching old episodes on ITV3 and find Thaw's Morse grumpy, rather misogynistic and the way he sometimes talks down to Lewis really annoys me

Funny because I didn't really see some of that when I watched it all those years ago.

Well to a point, perhaps he could be forgiven the "arrogance of youth" & his classical/opera knowledge did help solve some cases!

But he seems to be just disregarding Thursday & that's not on at all.

Anyone would think that it's all about him!!Grin

Starbucks I feel the same rewatching the old Morse. It's funny how you look at things differently as you get older. My biggest or rather only problem with Endeavour was that he was far too nice. That seems to have changed this series although I do remember him being rude to Box last series, who deserved it. However this series he's been so convinced he's right about the towpath killer I wonder if he's heading for a fall.

I missed the first episode of the new series and can’t get iPlayer where I live

It wouldn't help you if you could, as it's not a BBC programme. Try ITV Player.

MissEliza times certainly change. The Professionals is on late afternoons. I remember watching it originally without blinking but now am appalled at the sexism of the late 1970s! It's far worse than Morse

@StarbucksSmarterSister I've found that with so many programmes from the 70s and 80s.

Definitely- it’s strange how watching things through 21st century eyes changes your views.

Please don’t let them kill Fred!!

The first scene in the first episode was Morse in an interview type room with blood on his white shirt, I really hope it’s not Fred’s blood, but I think it might be as Morse said this was a story about love.

So Morse won't be going to Kidlington... or not?!

That was one of the few Morse/Lewis/Endeavour episodes where I had to properly cover my ears at times, proper jump scares

The ending all seemed a bit unlikely, though, both Morse and Thursday in Venice, but especially Thursday. Morse's change of heart, what he said in the letter, etc, also seemed a little unprompted, without showing us much of the self-reflection that might have led up to it, specially the stuff about Thursday being such a good friend etc

I really thought Fred and Morse were going to fall out forever. Thank god Thursday finally got off his high horse and went looking for Morse.

I feel like this episode was very rushed- they were trying to cram a lot into a 3-part series. It’s all ambiguous as to exactly what Violetta did as part of the insurance thing- more could’ve been made of it. Though I suppose it’s quite nice to not be patronised as a viewer and have everything spelled out.

Overall, I think that having 2 big story arcs to resolve was a bit much for such a short series. Still really enjoyed it though!

I got DH to fast forward a couple of the scary bits 😂

I liked it better when there were separate cases for each episode, plus perhaps a bigger story arc over them all. But cases that could be watched and solved independently. This way meant you had to remember too much between episodes. And there was a lot more of the personal lives and interactions - I liked seeing those as backgrounds to the cases but not as a huge part of the stories themselves. It would have been interesting to learn more about the college fighting allowing men in etc in tonight's episode, but there was hardly time to get to know any of those characters

Who was it that the college women chased and got knocked down by a car?
