I don't think that Ludo seems nice at all-smug & smarmy!

I mean why would he suddenly turn up wanting to be reacquainted with the lowly Morse?

"I think they did clear up Fancy's murder. Wasn't he killed by the gun Box's ginger side-kick used?"

That's ringing a bell.
Didn't they all go somewhere armed?

I've forgotten the details of that then.

Ludo is definitely up to no good.

Yeah, Bright refused to kowtow to the dodgy senior officer and the dodgy politician who commissioned the dodgy tower block. Thursday returned the dodgy money to Box and refused to tell Morse to drop the investigation. Strange decided his loyalties lay with his County colleagues (including Fancy) and silently disobeyed the Grand High Mugwump of the Masons, who happened to be the dodgy politician's dodgy builder.

So they all turned up at the industrial site to rescue De Brin (how did they know he was there?), where Ginger-villain and the builders met them with guns, but our heroes somehow tricked them with a recording of sirens, so the villains ran away. Just as Ginger-villain was about to shoot our heroes, Box turned up and they shot each other.

Dodgy senior cop gave himself up and spilled on dodgy politician and dodgy builder. And they all lived happily ever after.

Except that we still don't know who killed Molly the barmaid, and who slashed the flasher.

I watched it last night Grin

@JaneJeffer I see where you're coming from but I can't ever remember a storyline where Morse turned out to be wrong and Fred was right!

Report
JaneJeffer · 16/02/2020 20:17

Is Fred following the boyfriend or was it just a coincidence they were both at the cinema?

I suspect they've lifted the whole 'Mendip Gardens West' thing from a famous RL murder, the Wallace case in Liverpool in the 1930s.

Wallace was an insurance salesman and claimed he'd been phoned up and asked to call at an address in 'Menlove Gardens East'. He went there and couldn't find it (there was a South, North and West Menlove Gdns, but no East). When he got back home, he found his wife, Julia, beaten to death.

He was tried for her murder and found guilty but won an appeal and the conviction was quashed.

I'm weirdly not enjoying the episode at all, and I'm a massive fan usually

I didn’t like it either. Loved last week’s. Weird. I reckon Ludo is going to kill his wife and frame Morse.

Who is the whistling killer by the canal?? Looking forward to next week; there's quite a few lose ends to be resolved.

The young guy in the lab was a whistler.

Apparently "Gary Rogers" was played by Roger Allam's son and "Mrs Radowice" is Allam's wife.

Whst will be the family connection next week do you think?

That's interesting. I recognised Rebecca Saire, his wife, but didn't realise his son was in it too.

I thought his son looked like a young Danny Dyer Grin

Interesting, must have been weird filming the scenes in the morgue....

I found it hard to keep up with all the stories lines.

Am worried about what is happening to Fred. He is following the boyfriend because he thinks he is the killer, and Morse being patronising and smug has pushed him over the edge. And as usual his long suffering wife is having to put up with his moods. At least she doesn't bother making his sandwiches anymore.

I think the Ludo and wife thread is boring, and whichever way it plays out will add to the Morse self serving sense of being betrayed.

By the way, if the new Morse is now only a decade or so from the start of the old series when does his beer drinking habit kick in. All this sitting round with the best bottles of wine doesn't quite link up.

I think Anton Lesser conveys a lot in very few scenes. But wonder is he doesn't always land the same parts on tv. (But he is often part of Radio 4 Extra plays and have heard him in a range of characters including a very daring but rather misogynistic Roman dective!)

Sorry, forgot to ask, did they even do any investigation of the stabbing of the white boy? They just told his mum he was dead and then did nothing!

Report
diddl · 17/02/2020 14:24

I wonder if the Ludo & his wife thing just adds to how Morse doesn't trust people & ultimately ends up alone?

He doesn't really fit in with colleagues, perhaps because of his superior education & attitude?

In the Morse series him & Strange didn't really get on, did they?

Report
Dilbertian · 17/02/2020 14:51

In the Morse series him & Strange didn't really get on, did they?

That worked in the earlier series of Endeavour, because Morse disapproved of Strange becoming a Mason, and then of course Strange's career progressed faster than Morse's, despite Morse being so much more able. You could see it leading neatly to the older Strange blaming Morse for making him feel awkward, with the older Morse not giving a dam about him. This recent re-buddying of the two of them jars.

I think there were too many storylines last night. The storyline involving the delivery guy just had too many characters and themes to get interested in. I thought the story of 'Gary Rodgers' was interesting- he was the son of an immigrant himself who clearly wrestled with his identity.

It felt like a bit of a bridging episode didn't it? I do wonder if Ludo has sent his wife to Morse... like they're plotting something together. Their 'strained' relationship seemed a bit put on. Or maybe they just aren't good actors!

I thought the storyline of the Asian family, the restuarant, dementia (or not), racism was good, but it was a lot to try and cram in, and suspect i was too busy looking out for the ongoing storylines.

I think it is part of their aim of making it very obvious what is going on in the world outside of Oxford.

Wasn't the last scene last night the election results on the radio?

We've not seen enough of Ludo and his wife together. I wished there had been more time given to the central characters last night rather than crowding the episode with loads of characters and three murders. We know Endeavour is coming to an end soon so I'd like to see a satisfactory ending to their stories.
I liked the scene with Sean Rigby following the TV chef then giving up and ordering a takeaway!

GCAcademic · 17/02/2020 17:35

Yes, the last scene was the exit poll, which was too close to call, but in the end a surprise victory for the Conservatives / Ted Heath.

That was funny MissEliza as was Morse's face when Fred compared wrestling to opera.

There's a lot to tie up next week.

I loved the Asian family's house.
