I wonder if this is a complete series or if its combining with the one next year?

I’m quite bored by the Ludo scenes. They jar a bit for me.

My money’s on Ludo strangling his wife with a necklace - the scene where Ludo saw the towpath photos and Strange reprimanded Morse for bringing evidence home...Ludo definitely latched onto Morse for some reason.

There's something significant about the wife's necklace. The camera seems to close in on it quite a lot.
I can't believe Fred even asked Morse if he'd been to see wrestling!

Fred Thursday was never mentioned in the original series or any of the books. The character really should have been Charlie Hillian.

When is he going to meet McNutt? He features doesn’t he?

There is a theory that the Endeavour/Ludo subplot is based on The Talented Mr Ripley. Ludo’s surname is Talenti . . .
Are we seeing Morse pass his mentor Thursday? In later life, Morse was an arrogant sod who had no respect for any other detective’s abilities.

Fred Thursday was never mentioned

I have a memory of an episode of Morse when he told Lewis about learning his policing from his old DI, with some reference to "old fashioned" policing that he didn't like. (In Endeavour it is clear Morse doesn't like the strong arm method that both Thursday and Strange are prepared to use.) But that overall he respected his work.

We’ve got 5 years to go till Last bus to Woodstock. 5 years for Morse & Strange to get to Inspector & Chief Super rank? I can’t remember the book details as I read it so long ago but does Strange feature?

On a side tanget I saw by chance that a new film called Misbehaviour will also feature Sally Alexander as a character - sorry real life person.

Not sure there is a Morse / Endeavour connection but there is a Women's Liberation connection as the film is about the flour bombing of Miss World.

And needless to say the film maker have decided it is a comedy.

I can't believe Fred even asked Morse if he'd been to see wrestling! I don't suppose he really thought Morse had been to see it although it used to be on TV a lot then. I think he was making the point that it is all artifice with heroes and villains much like opera.

I thought the story of 'Gary Rodgers' was interesting- he was the son of an immigrant himself who clearly wrestled with his identity. Shockingly, even within the past ten years I've known adults (children of immigrants) who have themselves voiced anti-immigration views...

Clearly Thursday is correctly being guided by his intuition (on this occasion) regarding the towpath killer. Maybe this will be where the falling out with Morse happens?

Also, I would have thought Morse would be more cautious about welcoming Violetta with open arms, given that Ludo knows where he lives!

"Also, I would have thought Morse would be more cautious about welcoming Violetta with open arms,"

That really pissed me off.

I hoped that he was going to have some morals!

And Ludo is awful-so smarmy!

Why can't Morse see it?

Or is he too dazzled by his wealth?

Morse's house looks fabulous!

He didn't really welcome her with open arms did he? He did try to resist (a bit). I thought that scene was well acted.

Me too - women have always been his achilles heel, consistent. An opera loving glamour puss who seems as emotionally fragile as Morse, he gets the benefit of the doubt. It’ll end badly!

Morse ever the hopeful romantic. He reminds me of a friend who was always in love with the ideal rather than the reality.

Report
peanutbuttermarmite · 21/02/2020 08:33

nobody ever lives up to his ideals do they? With women though he is slightly more forgiving of failure. Endeavour has done a good job of showing how Morse ends up on his own and with few friends.

"Endeavour has done a good job of showing how Morse ends up on his own and with few friends."

Yes it has, hasn't it?

The way he has been with Thursday-& although it might not be the boyfriend, it wasn't the Prof who killed Molly Andrews, was it?

Taking the file home & leaving scattered stuff in the room with Ludo-not even bothering to put it back in the file.

Smacks of thinking that anyone else is too stupid to see any relevance in anything!

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 21/02/2020 09:19

I know I don’t see this friend any more as he just hurt one too many in his quest for the ideal. He then wondered why his relationships never worked. He never understood the word ‘compromise’ which is vital in any relationship.

Endeavour reminds me of DF - super bright (and has a fair idea that he is) but isn't really a team player or prepared to sacrifice his principles 'to play the game' (in Morse's case to join the Masons to progress his career). A kind of benign 'lone wolf'.

I think his relationship with Thursday will be sacrificed when the latter is proved correct with his 'towpath killer' hunch which E has so far dismissed.

I can't believe that young woman who Thursday knew carried on doing the towpath walk even after he'd advised her against it.

I am getting a bit confused with the timelines on CTM and Endeavour. Had to remind myself that the latter is already in 1970.

I've just see a preview of episode 3 on Twitter and Morse behaves like a total prick to Thursday. I never use that word but it's the only way to describe the exchange.

I actually liked John Thaw’s Morse but I don’t like the Endeavour Morse - I just think he’s a bit of a twat & not a particularly nice one.
