Anyone watching the new series?

TalkingOrmer · 11/03/2019 22:11

I am. What’s the link for the recent rape?

Owlettele · 11/03/2019 22:11

I am glued. Love this show

AsparagusSoup · 11/03/2019 22:14

Just switched it on.

That 15 year old boy at the end it said after 4 months the judge ordered a psychiatric assessment but then never gave us the outcome!

Sidge · 11/03/2019 23:51

I watched it - I love this series. So sensitively done.

It enrages me though; those coppers are so patient.

Sidge · 11/03/2019 23:52

@purpleme12

They convicted him in his absence as he wasn’t fit to stand trial. I don’t know what sentence he got though.

Wingedharpy · 12/03/2019 00:26

In the link which Ginger1982 posted above, it says the 15 year old is still awaiting sentencing.
He is the subject of a "hospital order" which is due to be reviewed next month.
Presumably that means he is on a Psychiatric ward somewhere having on going assessment.

I, personally, found him more disturbing than the taxi driver though I wouldn't want to be anywhere near either of them.

Hats off to the police.
They need the patience of several saints.

Wingedharpy · 12/03/2019 00:29

Also, well done those women for reporting.
Very brave.

Florescentadolescent · 12/03/2019 12:40

Watched last night. Very upsetting to watch.

I was also confused about what happened to they boy. I assumed he has been locked up in a psychiatric facility, but the police woman made a comment about learning disabilities giving people a free pass to commit crime, so I'm unsure whether he has been locked up or just assessed by doctors.

Him laughing during the interview was sickening, I wouldn't have been surprised if the office gave him a slap, she did well to keep her cool.

purpleme12 · 12/03/2019 13:07

I think she must have angry inside cos she made that comment about how she couldn't believe how he was and she really believes he's done and when I watch these programmes they don't normally even say anything like that do they

Ginger1982 · 12/03/2019 13:14

Kind of odd for the taxi driver to commit 2 rapes in quick succession then nothing after that until the assault that flagged up his DNA. You'd think he'd have escalated. Unless he got married at that point maybe.

I've just watched it, the teenager gave me the absolute chills.

The older one was pathetic - I wanted to punch him on the end of his lying nose.

CouldBeAnyoneReally · 12/03/2019 14:00

I assume that the older rapist had maybe committed more rapes in the years since the two we saw but they’d not been reported or he’d not left any dna? Hard to believe he’d do it twice and have got away with it but then not do it again.

Jackshouse · 12/03/2019 16:23

Damn I forgot to record it!

SosigisAndCornflourSauce · 12/03/2019 16:26

And the teenagers solicitor 😡 how could the solicitor behave like that and sleep at night, shocking

purpleme12 · 12/03/2019 16:31

Do you mean when the hinted that the solicitor gave him the story?
I didn't get that I thought solicitors couldn't do that anyway

SosigisAndCornflourSauce · 12/03/2019 16:46

She (the D.C.) was right though, he couldn't have concocted that himself

confuddled19 · 12/03/2019 17:27

I'm a defence lawyer, albeit in a different jurisdiction, and I actually found the police quite offensive at that point. I would have had to have said something at that insinuation. That being said, I obviously can't speak for every lawyer, just as one police officer can't speak for all police officers doing the job properly.

There were actually certain points in both interviews where I thought the lawyer should have intervened.

Ginger1982 · 12/03/2019 17:30

Confuddled19 same! I'm a lawyer too and I said to DH when the cops tried to say the lawyer had coached the taxi driver, 'aye that's right, blame the lawyer!'

OP posts:
confuddled19 · 12/03/2019 17:37

Glad I'm not the only one ginger!

I think the bit about the teenagers's victim suddenly being an escort is suspect, but I meant I would have said something in the taxi driver interview after he had a break and then came back with the 'clearer' story about what he had heard on the news and how it might relate to him. When the cops were saying, 'this is how YOU remember it right?' Or words to that effect!

qazxc · 12/03/2019 19:23

I'd imagine that the taxi driver probably has more victims but rape is a very unreported crime, especially if the victims feel that they will be judged or blamed for what they were wearing, how drunk they were, etc...

I'm also highly dubious that the teenager came up with that prepared statement without outside input. I found him very chilling. I'm not sure what happened to him but did i read that he was released back into the community for 4 months, not quite sure what happened after that. I hope that he is somewhere secure , because he seemed to be likely to repeat the behaviour.

Catscratchclub · 12/03/2019 21:26

I’m watching it now and finding it really hard actually - I was raped by someone I know, and the smirking / laughing / arrogant teenager reminds me so much of the person who attacked me. Horrific - I’m not finished it yet, god I hope they get jailed.

rainbowlou · 12/03/2019 21:28

This was a hard watch, my teenage daughter was sexually assaulted 3 times by a trusted adult over a 2 day residential trip and the charges were dropped because ‘he was autistic and admitted to being socially awkward and often being perceived as a little odd’ plus they couldn’t prove it had happened after viewing group photos of the activities 😡
They were the exact words used after weeks of investigation.
I’m not surprised people don’t come forward and report these attacks-my dd has said if it ever happened again she will keep it to herself.
