Anyone watching the new series?

The male officer came across as an arrogant pig. I am sure everyone saw him for what he is.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 19/03/2019 12:50

Twitter absolutely went to town on the male CID Officer. Personally I think they will have filmed reams of stuff and edited that right down so we might not have got the full story,.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 19/03/2019 13:25

It’s insane that the crime of selling drugs is given an harder sentence than being involved in abuse against children.

It’s so easy to see how conspiracy theories bloom.

Catscratchclub · 19/03/2019 14:26

We had a teacher at Ds school arrested and charged last year with making and possessing indecent images. He also got 18 months suspended sentence - the fact he was a teacher actually went in his favour as apparently it showed he was of previously good character. Absolutely mind boggling and utterly wrong!

Callmesausage · 19/03/2019 15:08

Agree about the CID guy, he couldn’t have been less helpful.

The sentencing around these crimes must change surely, 18 months was a disgrace.

fruitbastille · 19/03/2019 16:09

I'm so shocked and angry at the crap sentences. Those poor fucking children and that's all their abuser gets. Jesus Christ no wonder the problem is rife.

NicoAndTheNiners · 19/03/2019 16:16

Was the police "investigator" from last night a police officer or a civillian. She referred to herself as an investigator and said she used to do training for a bank (?). She was very good but I was just surprised that they seem to have non police officers doing this role.

qazxc · 19/03/2019 16:25

I thought she was a police officer but had been specifically trained for dealing with online images of child abuse, that's why she went for help from CID when she unwittingly stumbled across a major drug operation.
That what she was thinking was that he would deal with the drugs and cash, which would be his area of expertise and she would deal with the online images. Which would have made sense because she probably doesn't have any experience of drug cases.

purpleme12 · 19/03/2019 16:52

Yes that's what I thought too

NicoAndTheNiners · 19/03/2019 17:25

I've googled civilian police investigators and it is a thing. Doing online child abuse cases and even murder investigations. I just got the feeling last night from a few things she said that she wasn't actually police.

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/on-the-beat-with-the-civilian-detectives-in-manchester-1787335.html

NicoAndTheNiners · 19/03/2019 17:32

And the Bedfordshire police ICIAT team which is who she works for says they have 11 investigation officers and 2 detective sargents. If she was a copper they'd call her a DC or whatever her rank was, not an investigation officer.

BridlingtonSand · 19/03/2019 18:33

I got approached for a civilian investigation position. Had never heard of it before and was tempted (but in the end the pay cut was too much).

BridlingtonSand · 19/03/2019 18:37

I've just come across this programme . And from the one episode I've watched im addicted . The series is right up my street I'm really into true crime shows ! Especially American ones on ID and cbs reality ! Looking forward to the next episode of 24 hours

I thought this was a strange comment in the middle of last night’s discussion.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/03/2019 20:11

I was also suprised at the make officers refusal to take on the drug offences. I suspect that if he hadn't been jailed for the drugs, he'd have got off with a suspended sentence or something similar.

NicoAndTheNiners · 19/03/2019 20:26

I was also surprised at the attitude of that male CID Officer. I think that the investigation officer was as well. There was that bit where she was talking to another female colleague in the corridor and then stopped herself and dragged the colleague somewhere more private. Wasn't sure whether to get away from the camera or from people passing by but I suspected she wanted to say what the fuck was the male cid bloke doing not taking an interest in the drugs!

qazxc · 19/03/2019 20:48

Well if she was a civilian purely brought in for child abuse images it makes the CID bloke's attitude even more unreasonable. How is she meant to know how to approach the drugs investigation, what if she fucked the search or gathering of evidence? Especially as considering the sentences the drug dealing is considered the more "serious"crime.

NicoAndTheNiners · 19/03/2019 20:56

Yes. She said "I *can't" in reference to dealing with the drugs. I got the impression she wasn't allowed to. Which makes sense if she's a civillian trained just for the online child abuse side of things.

JediJim · 19/03/2019 20:57

Sadly being in possession/ distributing of child porn doesn’t really result in long prison sentences. Maybe the law sees it as a digital crime rather than a physical one.
The Asian family case was strange. The original offence was child images but during the raid of the house they found drugs and cash. The two crimes don’t really match together.
Regarding child porn, sadly it’s just the tip of the iceberg. I imagine very few people are caught.
Alright their sentences might be short I’d like to think that they’d lose everything else. Their families, their job, their homes and of course their reputation. That’s some justice atleast.

HollowTalk · 19/03/2019 20:58

That male officer was a lazy arse. It was obvious she wasn't a 'proper' police officer as she was so worried about doing the wrong thing. He shouldn't have told her to just get on with it.

The main female investigator was amazing - her sidekick hasn't said a word in the episodes I've seen her in. It must be such a terrible job at times but how great that these poor children have such a great advocate.

Those sentences are a disgrace. How can anyone justify a suspended sentence for possession of so many photos of child abuse?

I think we're learning where women and girls stand in the world, aren't we? We're not even allowed to define ourselves. Raped and abused children are treated as though they are absolutely nothing. It's appalling.

I would love a female prime minister to say, "You know what, we've had enough of this. Things are going to change." But no. That's not going to happen.

purpleme12 · 19/03/2019 20:58

I would have thought that this cid person would know that then?

But then again I know not everyone is good at their jobs

I'm sure that person has been in the programme before

JediJim · 19/03/2019 21:15

The first man was equally as disgusting. Suspended sentence! His family may be none the wiser. His wife might not even know the full story, he came up with some rubbish story about being in a chat room at the beginning.
He should be named and shamed for the vile man he is!

RedHelenB · 19/03/2019 21:24

Maybe he was snowed under with other vital work?

purpleme12 · 19/03/2019 21:29

Maybe who knows

HollowTalk · 19/03/2019 21:51

He didn't look like he was. And in any case it doesn't matter - if it's your job, it's your job.

Ginger1982 · 19/03/2019 22:38

I liked the bit where the female officer had just come off her phone to her sergeant not sure what to do and the male officer walked past. One of those awkward moments!
