Anyone watching the new series?

OP posts:
Pengrin · 09/04/2019 23:15

Yes, the interviewing officer said he’s sent his solicitor home.

Nicknacky · 09/04/2019 23:17

Thanks, missed that!

I need to pay more attention and not MN during programmes!

Ginger1982 · 10/04/2019 17:15

I missed that too. I thought the officer said the firm had no one to send out. The lawyer that had been there probably went back to the office and said, 'fuck this shit!'

The episode was really good, much better than I thought it would be. However the lady police officer who interviewed him was dreadful. He ate her for breakfast. She was not the one for that interview. Needed someone a lot stronger

Nicknacky · 11/04/2019 13:44

I’ve noticed in previous interviews she ends up arguing with them rather than interviewing, granted like I said earlier it is nerve wracking interviewing on tv however I think it is her interviewing style.

purpleme12 · 11/04/2019 13:53

I thought she was arguing too. I thought she easily have responded to him in a different way and that wouldn't be like an 'argument' then

It felt like he was responding like a child to me (so if you didn't help yourself you could easily get into an argument) and as the adult you have to respond so you don't get drawn in

Nicknacky · 11/04/2019 14:30

Agreed, however as a competent interviewer you don’t get into an argument or discussion. Ask the question, listen to the answer. Then ask the follow up. Not to say it’s easy, it’s not but quite frankly many suspects are as obnoxious as him so it’s not an unusual interview.

purpleme12 · 11/04/2019 15:03

Yes that's what I mean.
Probably not easy though no!

cushioncovers · 11/04/2019 20:56

Just watched this weeks episode. What an absolute tit that man was.
Even my teenage son who was watching it with me asked why he mentioned he was a surgeon when he made the first initial phone call to the police.

I also thought the policewoman interviewing him seemed out of her depth. She seemed to struggle to get her words out and kept apologising to him. I mean they got him in the end but she come across well in the interviews.

Hollowvictory · 11/04/2019 20:58

He was so arrogant. And greedy, so much wealth but wanted more. Wonder how he got on in prison

AlexaAmbidextra · 11/04/2019 22:41

My daughter (a senior nurse) says most surgeons display that kind of arrogance.

Well as someone who was a nurse for over forty years I’m here to say ‘no, they don’t.’

longwayoff · 12/04/2019 05:29

Urgh. That surgeon was absolutely chilling, complete entitlement and the ease with which he lied. I was surprised and pleased he got such a long sentence. Frankly, the thought of him having free rein over an anaesthetised patient is really disturbing.

Lemonsquinky · 12/04/2019 09:38

The interviewing police officer was pretending to be thick and doffing her cap to lull him into a false sense of security. His ego would be raised by his knowledge that he's cleverer than them and feel like talking more to let them know that he's better than them. It worked because he talked a lot.

Nicknacky · 12/04/2019 09:40

She wasn’t pretending to be thick at all, that’s the same way she has been in other interviews. And no interviewer is trained to act “thick”.

MadamBatty · 12/04/2019 18:39

Gosh watching this now, wahat an arrogant manipulative man

cushioncovers · 12/04/2019 19:41

Yes he's awful isn't he

AlexaAmbidextra · 12/04/2019 21:22

He was dreadful. However, I got really frustrated with the police officer’s ineptitude at interviewing. He was running the show and she was out of her depth.

Hollowvictory · 12/04/2019 21:52

To be fair to the police officer, his trial was supposed to last 8 weeks and it took 4 months. He wasn't easy to manage

Because of their value, the Police have left the antiques in-situ rather than take them into storage.

Hels20 · 14/04/2019 16:49

I couldn’t believe McGrath - and accusing the policewoman of being insensitive when she showed a picture of a candelabra - and getting in that his sister had been killed and that his Dad was dead.

I also never understand how people can give a no comment interview when they don’t admit to anything. Eg last week the drug dealer gave a prepared statement admitting to buying and selling a bit of cannabis and then gave “no comment”. That makes sense as you don’t want to incriminate yourself. But McGrath denied the whole thing.

What a snake.

beebreath · 14/04/2019 16:56

Because of their value, the Police have left the antiques in-situ rather than take them into storage.

Just as well as he would only accuse the police of swapping them for fake ones. 😁

Toddlerteaplease · 14/04/2019 22:40

I've only met a couple of surgeons that arrogant and they were very old school. Our surgeons are lovely.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/04/2019 22:41

I was really hoping the copper doing the interview was going to show him the photo of Dave standing next to the fireplace. I so wanted to see the reaction.

NicoAndTheNiners · 15/04/2019 20:33

Wow, just watching this on catch up. He's a total twat arguing with that DC in the interview, etc. His solicitor looked most uninterested.

Feel sorry for his wife and kids.

8 years is a substantial sentence though, I'm surprised he got so long.

Autumnchill · 15/04/2019 20:52

We were sat here laughing at him with his faux emotion about being shown a picture of a candlestick and how the Police had done it on purpose to upset him knowing is attachment to it 😀 how the policewoman didn't laugh I don't know!
