Anyone watching the new series?

OP posts:
ASauvignonADay · 25/03/2019 21:52

I thought exactly the same @MrsFassy

longtompot · 25/03/2019 22:08

That was such a sad episode. Such a waste of so many lives.

MrsFassy · 25/03/2019 22:11

Absolutely heartbreaking and terrifying in equal measure. Killed over a look, there really are no words.

Wonder why they didn't say how many years the first three boys received?

Cocolepew · 25/03/2019 22:15

I knew mouthy bloke would be the first to crack.
It must be so frustrating being faced with nothing but no comments.
What a sad episode.

allthingsred · 25/03/2019 22:19

This episode has made me cry & be scared in equal measure.
Sad because it such a waste of lives.
My heart goes out to the victims loved ones.
As for the perpatrators... they have squandered there lives as well. Years wasted over a look. It's just so sad.

Scared for my kids. How does a parent ever sleep at night? When your grown up babies aren't safe on the streets
Makes me want to never let mine out ever again

AnneElliott · 25/03/2019 22:21

Wasn't that boy hiding in his mums bedroom? Why would he be hiding if he's not violent?

flamed12 · 25/03/2019 22:22

That was so sad. I’m scared for my kids Sad. I wonder what the parents could do better (if anything). I’d hate for my son to be involved in anything like this.

Florescentadolescent · 25/03/2019 22:36

Did anyone think the drivers sentence was a bit harsh?

He didn't even get out the car did he? And he cooperated with the police.

flamed12 · 25/03/2019 22:44

I didn’t realise he stayed In the car. I guess if that’s the case then maybe, but at the same time he drove the killer to the scene knowing he had a knife and knowing he was “nuts”. He didn’t get help, he stayed.

He could have drove off, phoned police or ambulance

RandomMess · 25/03/2019 23:00

The others had to serve a minimum of 18 years, the drivers had a sentence of 11 years so will probably serve 5ish years so it was significantly less.

He should have dialled 999 he could have told them to not stab him.

So desperately sad and pointless for all their lives SadSadSadSadSadSad

PETRONELLAS · 25/03/2019 23:15

So powerful. So sad. This episode should be shown in schools or at home to any young person. The mum’s words as life support was turned off.
And the joint enterprise charge. Not even getting out of the car was 11 years. This might get through to someone.

purpleme12 · 25/03/2019 23:16

I agree petronellas

Florescentadolescent · 26/03/2019 03:37

It didn't say he didn't get out the car but in the cctv the car was still moving when the attack was happening. So I assumed he didn't get out.

I think it's right he got a sentence as people said when he saw the attack happening he should have called the police and should not have aided the escape. But I thought he get like 5 for aiding and abetting, not 11 for manslaughter.

Maybe thats how they try and discourage gangs. In USA you can be done for murder just for bring present and I can't say I think that's fair. I think there is a case where two boys burgled a house. The home owner killed one (legally) and the other was sentenced to murder.

RandomMess · 26/03/2019 06:57

The driver knew they carried knives and knew they had "beef" with person when he drove them and dropped them off. So he was complicit in the attack?

ASauvignonADay · 26/03/2019 06:57

I'm going to encourage kids at school to watch it. We've recently done lots of input on knife crime

TheQueef · 26/03/2019 07:13

Just watching on catch up.
Agree the footage of the stabbing is brutal to see.

8dayweek · 26/03/2019 08:19

One thing that stuck out for me was the Mum lying and saying her Son wasn't in the house. I think the Police should be able to give out on the spot fines for that sort of thing - perverting the course of justice / deliberately trying to sabotage or mislead a police investigation or some such ilk. I know it was her Son but FFS, it must be so frustrating.

Flaverings · 26/03/2019 09:09

DP said similar about the verbal abuse and threats directed towards the officers. But I couldn't think what they could do. Your idea about a fine is a good one - are they enforced?

lalaloopyhead · 26/03/2019 09:26

I found this disturbing and very sad. The video was brutal and I think the persistence of the attacker to cause harm/kill (so not just one stab) was the most frightening thing.

What an absolute waste of lives, over 'beef' that wasn't even anything to do with the attackers.

billysboy · 26/03/2019 09:29

There should be a 25% uplift in sentence if they have sat there with no comment all the way through as well

very disturbing last night

Flaverings · 26/03/2019 09:31

God, yeah. I was wracking my brains trying to figure out how they could address that. I wonder when that approach sneaked in to interviews.

Deathraystare · 26/03/2019 10:31

I got so angry watching last night and my blood pressure really went up (it's very high anyway!).

The total waste of lives, the total stupidity of a 'beef' over a look (if we can believe the girlfriend's account.

I know their solicitors advise them to keep saying 'no comment' but it must be so frustrating for the police. I would love it if when the louts were taken to the cells they had a lot of questions and the police said "No comment!".

Did I understand right? The guy who saw them first when on his bike got away scot free even though he 'started it?'.

billysboy · 26/03/2019 15:25

There just has to be a proper enforcable consequence of the no comment if subsequently found guilty and one that they know will have an effect

creamcheeseandlox · 26/03/2019 17:54

I work in CID and if a suspect has a solicitor it's very rare they will speak in interview. Its their right but in the caution which we repeat before interview it states that their silence can draw inferences from a jury so we give them the chance to explain things then. Many don't though. It's almost expected that they will go no comment to not give the police anything and then it's down to the police to gather the evidence to be able to charge.
