I’ve binge watched for 2 days as I’m ill. I never tire of it. I have one niggle: about Pete and Dawn’s children. Why do they look so young in the vow renewal scene? If they were that young, they’d have been round at Pam and Mick’s all the time too.

Was a bit weird yesterday seeing Pam Ferris in G and S followed by Matilda.

My favourite characters are Ness and Bryn. I like Ness the way I liked Father Jack. Every single thing they say is funny and you just want to hear more.

I think John Prescott was referred to in an earlier episode than the wedding as an ex of Ness’s. Does anyone remember?

UnderMajorDomoMinor · 02/01/2019 16:25

I think ness and smithy have been more successful since as they were also the writers. The other smaller parts were well known actors. Gav and stace were the only less well known ones.

CantstandmLMs · 02/01/2019 16:27

This thread has inspired me to re-watch it. It is so funny! I watched a random episode that was on TV on Christmas Eve and crave a re-watch. So glad it's on Netflix.

LuckyLou7 · 02/01/2019 16:28

I wish they would do one more special update so we could see Stacey and Gavin with their baby, Nessa and Smithy and Neil living together as a family, Uncle Bryn and Jason, out and proud, in their own Barry lovenest - it's never going to happen though, not now James Corden has decamped to America. It would be lovely though.

My favourite line was Nessa's reference to Pete Townsend's arrest for possessing images of children. She was talking about when she used to be a roadie for The Who, but she fell out with Pete, and she said to him "Pete. Where is the book?"

3out · 02/01/2019 16:28

I think Prescott appeared in person once, didn’t he?

GinaLinetti99 · 02/01/2019 16:44

Bloody love G&S. Such a hilarious programme, even now.

John Prescott was meant to be Nessa's former lover. I thought it was terribly good spirited of him to do the cameo, especially as they made reference to the punch incident too.

Arkos · 02/01/2019 16:51

It's my go to comfort watch whenever I'm feeling a bit low. My favourite bit has to be dawn and Pete's wedding when she sees the ring

ButteryParsnips · 02/01/2019 16:53

The readings at Pete and Dawn's vow renewal! Grin

Love Nessa's speech to Gwen just before setting off for the truth 'I'd have been lost, if truth be told'. Finally recognition of Gwen mothering her.

HelloGabriel · 02/01/2019 16:57

As PP mentioned it's interesting that G&S themselves are rarely mentioned as favourite characters (or moments). Although I do love the first episode when they meet Smile

They become quite irritating afterwards.

user1466690252 · 02/01/2019 16:58

I’m from the town where this is set, Barry. It is my fave show ever as I know people like the characters it’s so true to life just exaggerated and it’s hysterical. I also sold ice creams in Marcos cafe and I’m now married to a man from Essex 😂

Shirleyphallus · 02/01/2019 17:06

Pam is my absolute favourite

“Oh, you’d just love that wouldn’t you Mick. I can see you down at the golf club now, talking about old ‘three steaks’ pam’”

DeadBod · 02/01/2019 17:07

My fave episode is Micks appearance on the news, all their faces when he only says one line Grin
Anyone selfish in our house always gets called Kate Aide.

ChesterGreySideboard · 02/01/2019 17:11

The woman who owned Uncle Bryn’s house is a Mumsnetter. She posted pictures of the inside to prove it.

Cattus · 02/01/2019 17:12

I like how Pete and Dawn are such horrible people with no redeeming features, but Mick and Pam accept them and like them. You often get that in real life.

I love the bit when Deano asks for half and half of tea and coffee - my brother would do weird stuff like that.

OP posts:
IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 02/01/2019 18:03

I also love how Deano 'gets' the Owain Hughes thing and how he learns a bit of Welsh, even though all the blokes think he's thick.

Teaandbiscuits90 · 02/01/2019 18:09

Fave program ever!

Gavin and Stacey are definitely my least favourite characters, like someone else has said maybe that was fairly intentional?

My life goal is to be like Pam 😂🤷🏼‍♀️ Her and Mick are such a lovely pair. Fave scenes are the parties in Essex!

VashtaNerada · 02/01/2019 18:13

Love a bit of Gav and Stace! Favourite moments include Bryn being utterly over-excited and over-wrought at Gwen’s surprise party screaming “SURPRISE!” in a completely demented way, Dawn & Pete’s attempt at a threesome and everyone disappearing to the toilets, Nessa as Santa, “Oh. Dor. Where’s the salad?” and those few really touching moments between Nessa and Smithy. I agree that G&S were always meant to be the ‘straight’ characters acting as a foil for the absolute nutters around them.
And I have on at least one occasion said to DH that we can’t DTD because I don’t have my tools, my bag, my cape BlushGrin

cheesybiter · 02/01/2019 18:20

On the way to wedding 'shall I read it with the lisp'? 😂

KnickerBockerGlooooory · 02/01/2019 18:30

Best show ever! My fave scenes are mick with his new oven gloves and smithy wrapping all his Xmas presents in tin foil - I have been tempted to do the same on occasion!

flapjackfairy · 02/01/2019 18:46

Pam makes me smile because she tries so hard to do the right thing but gets stressed out and loses the plot and ruins it in the end. I so relate ! Though she is so lovely you can forgive her anything

DollyWilde · 02/01/2019 18:56

Love this so much. My DM is an absolute Gwen and my MIL is an absolute Pam (not that I'd say that to their faces...)

DH and I agree Stacy is a whiny mare who needs to grow up and Gavin is a over-mothered kid who needs to develop a backbone. I'd love to see Stacy getting her arse handed to her in AIBU...

"AIBU that my fiance has thrown a strop because I didn't tell him I'd been engaged before (five times not that it matters..)"

"AIBU that my husband's parents have offered to top up our house deposit but I don't want to accept it because I can't bear living more than five houses down from my mum?"

"AIBU that my MIL and FIL aren't willing to store all my belongings despite me openly turning my nose up at their home"

Etc Grin

DollyWilde · 02/01/2019 18:57

Oh and AIBU to stop my pill without telling my DH Shock

Amortentia · 02/01/2019 18:58

Ness tells the story of how she had a crazy affair with John Prescott, she even mentions David Blunket coming round for dinner one night. He was madly in love with her but she had to end the relationship. It was genius getting him to attend the wedding.

DuggeesWooOOooggle · 02/01/2019 19:01

I wish my parents were Mick and Pam, they are just ace. I think my favourite episode has to be the Christmas special, it's got everything. You just want to be there with them doing shots and eating a turkey that tastes ,'just like salmon'.

Yes most of the minor characters were already famous. Nessa and Smithy wrote it so obviously gave themselves the best parts, although you couldn't imagine anyone else doing those roles. I can't generally abide James Corden but as Smithy he's pretty good.

I have a really soft spot for Matthew Baynton. May well have watched Horrible Histories as a full grown adult (without the appropriate aged children) just because he's in it Blush

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 02/01/2019 19:01

I was so happy when I found it on netflix over Christmas, but gutted that season 3 isn't there Sad
