I’ve binge watched for 2 days as I’m ill. I never tire of it. I have one niggle: about Pete and Dawn’s children. Why do they look so young in the vow renewal scene? If they were that young, they’d have been round at Pam and Mick’s all the time too.

Was a bit weird yesterday seeing Pam Ferris in G and S followed by Matilda.

My favourite characters are Ness and Bryn. I like Ness the way I liked Father Jack. Every single thing they say is funny and you just want to hear more.

I love the look on Bryn's face when Smithy kisses him under the mistletoe.

Yes, a MNer owns one of the houses!

This show makes me feel so nostalgic.

James Corden will often retweet Gavin and Stacey fans.

When Nessa is in labour and the midwive suggests she gets on all fours

“That’s a home from home for me love”

Stacey “me too”
Midwife “and me”

😂😂😂

. I understand that James Corden and Mathew Horne aren't on good terms though.

They were never real-life friends though, James and Ruth wanted 'that bloke off The Catherine Tate Show' to play Gavin. They were only ever colleagues. Lots of people don't stay in touch with former colleagues.

My favourite bit is Gavin singing Feed The World with Smithy. Gavin is walking through Cardiff city centre and Smithy is driving. It's very touching.

Ah Gavin and Stacey is my default "watch something easy and nice before bed" programme! I have watched so many episodes and never in order! My favourite bits have already been mentioned, when Pam suddenly declares herself vegetarian on first meeting stace so she has to stay that way, smithys insistence on how to order a curry, Bryn just saying anything really! I don't get tired of rewatching it, a bit like Friends. Didn't James corden and Mathew Horne do a rubbish sketch show after G&S finished though? Why would they do that if they weren't friends at all?

glamorousgrandmother · 04/01/2019 08:07

No matter how many times you watch it there's always something new you notice.

Last time I watched the one where they get back from honeymoon - Stacey has disappeared bruefly at the airport, when Gavin finds her she explains she saw a woman in a headscarf tying up her shoe so she ran off (and abandoned him).

ShirleyPhallus · 04/01/2019 08:20

I do get irritated with stacey if I watch too many episodes in a row, her voice is just so whiny!

ZigZagZombie · 04/01/2019 08:38

It's been decades since I lived in Wales, but I'm sure "hughes" (not spelled like that!) means chuck/hurl/puke/spew/vomit.

"Owain Hughes - and no, I don't".

My favourite character is Pete. Everyone else gets drunk - Pete is always on another fucking level, crawling on his hands and knees, dribbling and bouncing off walls.

glamorousgrandmother · 04/01/2019 09:04

I read, in an interview with one or other of the writers, that the Owain Hughes thing is a non-joke and doesn't mean anything in Welsh. It's there to confuse us.

LuckyLou7 · 04/01/2019 09:17

I don't remember James and Matthew doing a sketch show after Gavin and Stacey. Did it bomb?

Stardustinmyeyes · 04/01/2019 09:24

Yes they did do a sketch show and it wasn't funny. I think they also made a film called something like Vampire killer lesbians or that could be a made up title by me! anyway it was crap

DuggeesWooOOooggle · 04/01/2019 09:28

When the lads all go to Wales and Gavin walks in to find Bryn and Smithy working out - grunts and all. Love it Grin

Dor picking up the guitar and breaking into The Smiths..... “ And if a double decker bus.......”

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/01/2019 10:01

I love the fact that despite being called Gavin and Stacey it's not really about them, and the real love story is between smithy and Nessa. I often wonder if, considering as it's written by corden and Jones, it's a reference to their own experiences of always being sidelined by the 'conventionally attractive' ones and their own little dig at society, as they are definitely the real stars of the show.
I absolutely love love love It.

There's too many lines to quote but in our house we use:
Don't be a twat, Dave.
You want fish and chips...and chips??!
And if anyone asks for batteries we ask 'are you having a bit of me-time?'

LuckyLou7 · 04/01/2019 10:05

Oh god I remember the vampire killer lesbian film. It was dreadful. I bet they wish they hadn't done it. At least there was no spin-off series from Gavin and Stacey - like Joey after Friends finished.

GooodMythicalMorning · 04/01/2019 10:07

In a cheap laugh kinda way I liked it. It wasnt award winning or anything but still fun.

GooodMythicalMorning · 04/01/2019 10:08

the film I was referring to, not Joey which was dire and pointless

HandbagCrazy · 04/01/2019 10:11

As someone who lives not too far from Barry, I think just how realistic some of the Welsh jokes / characters are might not be obvious to anyone who isn't local. I love the show for that alone!

Fave bits for me are Smithy and Gav singing a Christmas song together on the phone - no care for who can hear them (DH and his friends do this - once had someone join him singing down the phone in Sainsbury's 😂) and The party that turns into a row at Pam & Micks.

Winningatseesaw · 04/01/2019 10:32

Absolutely love this show. Watched it a million times, but it was my sister who pointed out that the tiny celebration chocolates given out at Pam and Mick's house by Nessa and David, are the same as the presents that are given by Nessa-Santa to the kids (hence no one wants one, as they aren't much goood truth be told)

You can tell by the wrapping

I love every series but especially the Xmas special. The beginning with smithy singing is brilliant, feels so real!

StylishMummy · 04/01/2019 10:38

I've found my people! 10 years on and the Christmas special is timeless Xmas Grin

Grin we do this too. In (v poor) welsh accents.

Expatworkingmum · 04/01/2019 15:21

Far and away the best programme ever written. I could just watch and rewatch it.

‘Even when we do Charles and Camilla, he’s first on with the ears’ 🤣

Expatworkingmum · 04/01/2019 15:25

@CharlieBrowns1987 that line really is hilarious. The writing is genius.
