The books have a lot of humour in them. Sometimes it's missing from the show, but then they have to cram so much into 13 episodes.

Jamie was very thoughtful and spiritual this week. I think that they have really underplayed how important his Catholicism is to him, nice to see a wee nod to it today.

Elderberry and ginger syrup -
2/3 cup dried elderberries
2 inches fresh ginger, peeled and chopped
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3 cups water
1lb jar honey

Put the berries, spices and water into a saucepan and bring to the boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 45mins-1hour. Gently mash the berries with the back of a ladle to make sure that all the juice is squeezed out of them. Strain the syrup though cheesecloth or through a fine mesh strainer into a clean bowl. Let it cool a little and then stir in the honey. Stir until it is completely dissolved. Pour into a sterile jar and seal.
Dosage - 1tblspn for adults, 1 tspn for kids, once a day. When you actually have the cold take a dose every 2-3 hours

It will last a couple of weeks in the fridge. If you bottle it warm and create a vacuum seal (like when you make jam), it will keep for a few months in the fridge until you open it. You can pour it over ice cream or add it to gin or whatever if you don't want to take it off a spoon, but it is delicious.

Has anyone else noticed how much Claire's hair has grown since going back to the 18th century? I know it's a long sea voyage to the West Indies, but still.

I know, perhaps it's all the sex making it grow. How long to get to the West Indies? 3 months, maybe? If only hair grew so quickly. Also, why does she only have a kind of stripe of grey? Wish I only had that.

I have the exact same stripe of gray in very Claire-like curly wavy brown hair! I feel very vindicated in my choice not to dye it :)

OTOH, it grows about 1cm every 3 months

It's the whole hair thing though isn't it. I reckon if I was shown just a picture of the hair (either J or C), I could make a pretty good guess at which point in the story it was.

I thought that my favourite reunion of all 3 seasons. No angst, no recriminations for anything, just pure joy and love between them. Sigh!

Oh and I finally got to hear what line Claire takes about how she is it doctor - it IS the colonies one, and that they do things differently there.
