I've just watched E11 so spoilers just in case some of you haven't.

I can't believe what I'm about to say, but I was disappointed Sad .....why?

20mins on Claire traipsing through the jungle.

Sudden abrupt, cliche reunion.....running along the beach although is be lying to say I wasn't imagining myself running towards Jamie!

Ridiculous ott comedy bits.

I was really looking forward to M and F wedding and wedding night which I thought would be HOT.

It's as if the writers have responded to the complaints about lack of sex in S2 by putting it in every episode.......still sexy though

I'm so conscious that we have so few episodes left that I just want each one to be brilliant. As good as the first few. Sad

I do think CB looked fab. Enjoyed J and C and thought M and F were gorgeous. Also the little scene with just M and Claire, v nice.

Vicar was funny.....reminded me of Tom hanks talking to the ball Wilson? in Castaway.

I'll rewatch later just to check I agree with myself.

Less I'm full of cold, have copied your recipe but where do I get elder flower berries?

Thank goodness for Mumsnet, couldn't find any info on the Amazon Prime issues with episode 11 anywhere else. It has just appeared, and I just have time to watch it and still have a decent nights sleep, but will follow this thread now I've found it.

20mins on Claire traipsing through the jungle.

I think this was meant to represent the shedding of Claire's 20th Century life and her full immersion back into her second life in the past. When she sees Jamie on the beach, this is the real reunion between them. There are no doubts or hesitations for either of them this time.

I was really looking forward to M and F wedding and wedding night which I thought would be HOT

I don't think I wanted to see that, tbh. As much as I love RR, I hope we don't get any Bree and Roger sex scenes either.

I love Father Fogden. Thought he was ace. The wedding was hilarious and I bloody love Marsali. The only thing I didn't like was Fergus' weird scarf Confused

It didn't bother me as I think this section of the book has a lo of faffing around in it, but there were some major edits/changes from the book in this episode. Eg. Jamie looking for C on the Porpoise and Claire being found by the naturalist, Laurence. Looks like they will cut him completely. Also, wonder if the will include Claire's slave.

The next 2 episodes are going to be action packed unless they really do some big edits.

I agree. I'm no fashion expert, but it did seem to me to have a sort of 21st century French hipster vibe.

See, I can't remember any of this bit of the book and I haven't got any particular attachment to the books anyway, so I'm just enjoying it as it comes and I have enjoyed these last couple of episodes. I just wish this series was longer.

I've a very vague recollection of it and that's just the return of that certain character. It does feel like the last two episodes might be a bit rushed. As I said upthread, I'd have been happier with the Edinburgh reunion in episode 3. As much as we needed a sense of the 20 years apart, the series is always better when J&C are together rather than apart.

Question
Inspite of Jamie's loveliness would you actually go through everything Claire has experienced to reach him ? In all honesty I think I might have thrown in the towel and gone back and bagged myself a lesser lovely chap !

Yes! I had a tiny peek at Cesar Domboy's Instagram page and it looks like something the actor would wear in real life.

I find Outlander such a strange show. S1 seemed to have a relatively strong narrative arc, with the exception of the part where Claire is looking for Jamie which goes on and on and on. Since then it's enjoyable enough but it seems like a series of plot devices stitched together with a good helping of collective amnesia. All they went through in S2 to stop Culloden then one thing with Jamie's name on it and it's a complete volte face and they go into overdrive to make it happen. Now in S3 Claire is back with Jamie and presumably must be expecting never to see her daughter again but barely a word is mentioned.

I only made it half way through the first book. DG appears to have no edit function (and nor do her "editors"). Always really wordy and while the heavy descriptions work really well in some parts, other sections are just dull and unnecessary. There's no change of pace and I didn't love Jamie and Claire enough to want to hear about every wink and giggle. Claire's speeches in the show often retain that quality, she can be really pompous and boring with her droning explanations.

The whole story line reads to me like a woman in her forties (just like me) going to a wedding and finding the men in kilts hot so sets out an elaborate sequence of events by which she can picture getting herself a real one. I really like some aspects of the show, things I've never seen portrayed on TV before like Jennie shooting out some milk when breastfeeding. Why does no one on these historical programmes ever seem to have issues with lice and fleas though (can I have the sercet for my children)? And why have Jamie and Claire not aged a day in 20 years?

Someone above said the show deals well with minor characters and I realised that it reminds me more of shows with seasons of short storylines like Silent Witness (which also deals well with minor characters) rather than the usual things I have seen that are based on books.

The daughter character seems to be a clone of whatever her name was that Isla Fisher played in Home & Away. And how did Claire/Roger know that Rabbie Burns hadn't been draw to pen those lines after reading a particularly inspiring book written by Mr Random Bloke esq.

Tonight is my Outlander night! Can’t wait :)

Dry, I find that with seasons 2 (and to a certain extent, although much less, with season 3, which I am enjoying very much) I had to accept that season one was really a different show. It was a combination of several things: us falling in love with the characters, the characters falling in love with each other, Scotland... not to mention they had 16 episodes so that led to a very different storytelling, too.

that can never be recaptured so it’s bear to accept the show is different and enjoy it for what it is rather than what’s no more

Would love it if they got an extended run of episodes in season 5...16 would be good. They books are getting longer and there is already so much to cram in.

Have converted several friends who are now as obsessed as me haha. Almost time for a new thread!

Largebucket I really enjoyed the books, but started reading them after seeing some of Season 1. They are real page turners, but I agree, far from perfect! They could do with being massively edited, and I think the show is doing a good job of that. I think they need to tread a fine line between die hard fans and those new to the show/story.

Lol! It does sometimes read a bit like someone's private fantasy. It reminds me of Twilight in that respect.

I agree totally with everything else you've said. There's a huge disconnect for me between the first book/series and all the rest. The books do have a strange pacing to them and only get worse as they go on.

Ok...so I just googled DG she's looking well for being 65!!! I though she was in her early fifties...witchcraft. I'm really hoping I can get into the books, I'm expecting them to be silly iykwim so I dont get too disappointed. It's just a new way of getting to know J & C so it can't be all bad.

I am a fan of the Outlander series but have to agree about the plot. While reading I miss out whole chunks. I then have to go back as I'm not sure where the characters are (ie the setting). The books contain swathes of conversation. Sometimes I can't work out who is speaking and the situation that they are in. Nevertheless I still like the books. And if I reread I find bits that I had not noticed before. For example, when rereading about the introduction of Willoughby, I was horrified at the racism. I couldn't work out whether it was intentional or unintentional.

Excellent title. A new thread already!

The books are , I think, the fantasies of a frustrated, horny middle aged woman. DG has invested so much in the character of Jamie, it's like he is her vision of the perfect man. I feel sorry for her husband, tbh.

I love the books, as everyone knows, but they could do with a lot of editing and, as I said on an earlier thread, there is a whole lot of tit for tat falling into danger and being rescued and a load of repetitive plot devices for causing chaos and strife. I have never really warmed to Claire, either. She is arrogant, annoying and reckless and she doesn't like to be questioned, but she does love Jamie. In many ways, she reminds me of DG, actually.

Elderberries. You can get them on Amazon from Just Ingredients, the Alchemist's Apothecary or sellers like that. Or you can buy them from home brew shops that sell them for making wine.
