Reckon the viewing figures/reviews for this season will be better than last....hopeful that 5 will go ahead. I wonder whether SH and CB are in for the long haul though?

DryWhiteagainW · 21/11/2017 21:53

Here here seneca

Evening lassies. I've just caught up.

I also think they really wasted time in the early episodes with stuff that no one was really bothered about (i.e the Boston stuff) and now they’re going to be rushing to fit the rest of the stuff in. I think the reunion should have come at about Episode 3 not 6. Yep, I agree with this. I can't believe there are only three episodes left. I was holding my breath until Episode 6, it feels as though it's barely got underway Sad

Like quirky I'm going to binge-watch the whole thing when the season is over. At least twice.

Bless little Elias, he was lovely. The actor was fantastic, he had the perfect balance of youth and quiet courage and discipline.

Lucky, lucky Marsali. She's punching above her weight there but they do make a lovely couple.

Thanks for the Buzzfeed link breadwidow I enjoyed that verra much Grin

I'm two-thirds of the way through Drums of Autumn and I'm loving it, far more than any of the others (although I have enjoyed the first three). Damn it, I was only going to read Voyager so I could get to the reunion, I wasn't bothered about reading any further, now I'm getting sucked in and I can tell I'm going to have to get book 5. I know we criticise DG a lot, and she has plot holes a-plenty, but she does know how to write a page-turner ...

JuneFromBethesda · 21/11/2017 21:58

Oh oh and nobody's mentioned the goat lady! I loved the goat lady!

'My goats needs grass' Grin

They are signed for seven seasons and there are only eight books at the minute, so hopefully, we will get it all. They just need to sign another three.

I don't know how they are going to fit the rest of the book in. They will need to cut tons of stuff. They should have either given all the Boston tripe a by or had more episodes. Who even actually cares about Claire's life with Frank, anyway?

JuneFromBethesda · 21/11/2017 22:45

Seven seasons, really? Oh wow.

I'm going to miss you lot when this season is over, I love the discussions on this thread.

breadwidow · 21/11/2017 23:06

I agree they should have had less time on them apart. cos we were all waiting for ep 6, this season feels way too short. I’ve not read the book, but it’s clear that there’s too much plot left to fit into 3 episodes

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 21/11/2017 23:34

I don't like Claire when she's being Dr Claire. She gets all pompous and condescending.

quirkychick · 22/11/2017 07:05

DryWhite I may have seen that on YouTube about which cast member is dating whom Blush. I think the guy Karen Gillan is with (according to that vid) was Le Comte de St Germain? Not that I care who the actors are with...

The book fans do need to realise that the show is for the book fans and people new to Outlander. I saw the show and then went to the books to race ahead. DG definitely can write a page turner, and I do like that you don't know what's coming next. But a show needs to have structure within each episode, the actors need rounded, nuanced characters to play.

Seven seasons, will the cut some of the plot down to fit it all in, I wonder. The Gathering, some of the battles and the Great Dismal wandering, could all be considerably edited quite easily.

DryWhiteagainW · 22/11/2017 07:41

Yes but june we all reappear when a new season starts so don't worry

Lessstressedhemum · 22/11/2017 08:07

A lot of it could be quite heavily edited without much loss, tbh.

DG appears to believe that she has no real control over how the story develops. She recently said something about having no intention of killing Jamie or Claire off but that there was nothing she could do if one of them decided to die on her. Not plotting out your books makes for a great page Turner it would seem, but has some drawbacks, if even the author doesn't know where the story is going.

I really would have thought that book fans would have been pleased that the series is bringing in new cult members and would be focusing on that, rather than complaining about every little thing (green ribbon, I am talking about you.)

Quirkychick totally agree, DG waffles on an awful lot in some of the later books - rehashing the same storylines over and over again - the great dismal nonsense was indeed dismal 😂 I skim read huge chunks of some of the books, I’m glad the tv production is streamlining them

quirkychick · 22/11/2017 09:32

Stephen King famously doesn't plot his books either. If he doesn't know where it's going, then no one else will guess either.

I think DG says she has some shape based on historical research, but sometimes it can be a bit clunky trying to fit certain things in eg. some of the battles in the War of Independence, so complicated, I'm not sure we needed it all dramatically speaking and it's easy to lose the thread of it.

MoNigheanDonn · 22/11/2017 10:19

Dh got me books 4-6 yay! Looking forward to starting them. Writers commented on Twitter this morning/last night that they've got a lot squeezed into the last 3 episodes and hope everyone will be pleased. I've attaches a pic of the tweet (I hope!)

finally watched episode 10. I really, really liked it (Cait's amazing acting and some fine moments from my darling Fergus).... but it's never going to be as good as when they were in Scotland in season one, is it :(

Lessstressedhemum · 22/11/2017 22:27

Once they get to Fraser's Ridge it gets that kind of Highland vibe about it again. And they are all pioneery, building houses, foraging and fighting wild animals. Plus, they get to have happy times in amongst all the drama. And Jamie gets his kilt on.

Haha Grin. Some shots of filming from Season 4 on YouTube, some of Fraser's Ridge is filmed in Eastern Europe, apparently. Camp on ridge, Jamie and Claire as well, as cute Rollover!

AKAmyself · 23/11/2017 11:13

Oh, can you link it up?

quirkychick · 23/11/2017 11:58

AKA I'm on my tablet with dodgy wifi, but the vid is Outlander Season 4: Behind the scenes Part 2 on YouTube. Not sure where part 1 is... there are quite a few looking forward to Season 4.

MoNigheanDonn · 23/11/2017 13:19

Look who is headed to Scotland!

The woman who took those behind the scenes seems a little stalkerish, tbh.

I think she’s devoted a year of her life to following the cast and crew of Outlander around the filming locations. I can’t even begin to understand that level of fandom Confused

quirkychick · 23/11/2017 20:02

Nor me, it just popped up on YouTube based on other Outlander stuff I may or may not have watched Blush.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 23/11/2017 21:05

Oh, I looked at them quirky. Would’ve been rude not to Wink

The Outlander Reddit has posted them and linked it to a blog. She sneaked onto the set in Scotland and ended up watching it being filmed.

It just seem creepy and intrusive. I can’t imagine what it must be like for the cast and crew having to deal with people like this all the time.
