One more sleep for me! so excited. AKA, that's a shame you can't get amazon prime. We were given a 3 month free pass for Now TV. I've used it literally to only watch GoT.

Our new TV comes tomorrow, I will be watching it on my 60" mega beast. Hurrah!!

LonelyOversharer · 22/10/2017 14:08

Oh aka I thought the internet was just the internet where on earth does amazon not exist, I'm so nosy

It will have to be a crappy streaming copy then! Don't starz have their own streaming service? Can't imagine why I keep getting their advert cookies Grin

I started season 3 again this morning, I'll be up to date to roll into tomorrow.

It’s really annoying that we don’t get it til Monday this season.

Sunday was a much better day to watch it and plenty of time for discussion without the distraction of work and getting the kids to school.

I agree. It’s really bugging me too. I used to be able to get up and watch it before anyone else woke up on a Sunday.
Mondays just aren’t the same.

Right seeing as it’s available to watch in the UK now, I’m going to talk about ep6 so if you haven’t seen it yet...

SPOILERS

Overall a great episode but there’s some stuff that’s just niggling me. I realised watching this episode what’s been bugging me about the later books. I understand that Jamie’s a changed man, he’s older, he’s been through a lot (Culloden, Ardsmuir, blah, blah, blah), but this is problem when the main love story spend 20 years apart. I get the feeling that Jamie doesn’t like Claire very much anymore. There’s an underlying something that I can’t quite put my finger on. I don’t know if it’s resentment that she wasn’t there or wariness that she’s going to disappear again. But anyway...

I hated the photo scene. Hated it. Jamie barely showed any emotion at the photos of Bree and it seemed like he couldn’t wait to whip out a picture of William like ‘Oh, and this my kid’. And if he’s all for telling Claire about Willie that begs the question of why the fuck he couldn’t tell her Laghaoire.

Good bits: liked the awkwardness of the sex scene, loved older Fergus, likes the idea of Jamie’s POV, which went some way to explaining his shock, liked the portrayal of Mr Willoughby (so far).

Bad points: didn’t take to Young Ian (although that might be the atrocious wig).

Okay, so I've watched it too. Um.

Well, yes it was awkward. Sure, they'd not seen each other for 20 years, but that was a bit stilted, and scripted? I know its scripted, but Jamie sounded like he was reading it. What has he done to his pec's? It looks like he's had bloody implants! the rest of him was fine!

I'm glad he told her about Willie, that always bugged me, but yes the photo scene was a bit poor. I wanted them to be excited, not just, here, look at this, oh yes, here's mine. I bet Claire was itching to sort out the lump on Geordies neck! And I'm guessing he didn't tell her about Leerie (I've given up trying to spell it) as he wouldn't have got a shag if he did. Although I liked the nod about talking to Ned about it, as everyone (including the audience) knows about her but Claire.

Loved the scene at beakfast with the 'girls' but Madame Jeanne clearly wants Jamie for herself. Didn't get that from the book. I suppose he is the king of men. Has that frizzy wig come off already, his hair was looking much thicker and redder in bed!

Well I thought it was bloody marvellous. If only all Monday mornings could start like this!

I disagree that Jamie doesn’t like Claire! He’s just had the shock of his life, besides which there’s the awkward fact of Laoghaire, so it’s not surprising he’s a bit thrown.

I loved his uncertainty about whether she’d still want him - after we’d seen her worrying about the same, I thought this was very moving.

Loved her brief reunion with Fergus (although I miss little Fergus).

I’m just a hopeless romantic, I’m just happy they’re back together again. I’m going to watch this episode over and over and over again Grin

Hmm, ok maybe it’s not that he doesn’t like her. But there’s something and I can’t work it out. It makes me not like him as much after Book 3. The dynamic in their relationship has changed too much although I understand why it was never going to be the same.

Has that frizzy wig come off already, his hair was looking much thicker and redder in bed!

It’s still some kind of wig. Saw some pics of poor old SH the other day and he hasn’t got anywhere near the same luscious head of hair that Jamie has, if you know what I mean.

My thoughts.
I didn’t think the photo scene was great. I the book he goes completely to pieces and I was waiting for that to happen. There was a lack of emotion for him seeing his child, he was so desperate to save, for the first time.
I still don’t get Mr Willoughby. Didn’t like him in the book and don’t particularly like him in the show yet.
Loved Fergus and Young Ian. Thought they were both great.
Loved Claire’s breakfast with the ladies at the brothel.
Nice few funny moments. Geordie was brilliant when he saw J&C together. Awkward head butt in the sex scene was funny.
I cried most at Jamie’s speech after they kissed for the first time. Sobbed at ‘you never touched me’.
I did feel the undressing before sex was drawn out a bit too much. How long did it take them to remove their neck cloths/scarves? I was thinking just bloody get on with it.
I’m sure I’ll think of more and notice more when i rewatch.

I think, even though they’ve done such an amazing job with all the more nonsensical bits of the books so far, they’re going to struggle to make Mr Willoughby anything other than a load of old hooey.

Piffpaffpoff · 23/10/2017 12:47

I’ve not read the books so I don’t have the issue of ‘but in the book they do this’. I though it was very good, but I’m a bit Hmm about the zips and the photos!

I loved it. I thought that there was the right amount of awkwardness and shyness. I think the problem might be that Jamie was completely blindsided and he has this panic that she'll leave again, also the worry about her finding out about Laoghaire. Remember, Claire had ages to prepare, Jamie had no idea.
I was a wee bit disappointed that he didn't cry with the photos but it was Lovely that he told Claire about William now.
Oh, and I thought I was going to pass out when he said, "Give me your mouth, Sassenach."

Mr. Willoughby is being presented more sympathetically, I think, but that spoils his storyline, really. You are supposed to be able to watch his arc develop from stock caricature to true self during the journey. Just like Claire, Jamie and other characters regain their own identities.

I LOVED the detail of the print shop. The set was amazing.
