just finished watching and on balance I loved it. I think all the awkwardness and a certain distance are absolutely par for the course and as Jamie says - we know each other less now than when we were first married. Their bodies know each other still (boy, do they know each other!) but the soul/mind/heart connection takes a while to re-establish. that is totally realistic, and let us not forget Jamie is hiding a pretty big secret!

I actually cried real tears when they first kissed and when they shagged the first time! After a while it got all a bit too much and I kept thinking omg Claire you are going to have the worst UTI of your life tomorrow morning, take it easy lass!

I think Sam looked verrah fine and Claire, once she let her hair down, was radiant. I for one don't mind the fact they still look young and hot one bit, no matter that Fergus now looks like he could easily pair up with Claire! (Loooooved grown-up Fergus btw)

Was disappointed by young Ian, he's going to have work out a LOT to get into shape for his future adventures! He's supposed to be fiercer and stronger than Roger!

If there is one thing I didn't enjoy are the Edinburgh outdoors scenes, they looked very staged and static.

I always lurk on the Lassies threads and think this is my first time posting.

AKA your UTI comment actually made me cackle out loud!!!

I think they have had Jamie tell Claire about Willie this soon (in the book, it was fairly close to the end) as we have the Laoghaire shock coming up probably in the next episode. Viewers will think Jamie is a total arsehole for still not telling her about Willie after the Laoghaire reveal. The latter half of this season will move through the next 2/3 of the book quick, so unlike reading the book, two secrets revealed close together but in original order will make Jamie seem untrustworthy.

I think Jamie's reaction to the photos was perfect - absolute shock - but I do wish he'd been all precious about them before they eft the print shop!

Young Fergus - what a doll!

Calling a baby a squeaker - great line.

Reunion sex - perfect!!! I think this is the only show which masters the female gaze. Slightly disappointed Jamie only had a wee thin scar though in his leg? Not v realistic.

Mr Willoughby - much less racist caricature, like him so far.

Just joining this thread. I've been binge watching the whole thing (series 1-3) and caught up tonight. Sorry but I was disappointed with this episode in many ways.

Loved the print shop, Jamie's faint and seeing old Edinburgh. My granny was from there and I've been doing my family tree, I've traced back to one of my ancestors who would have been a 4 year old at the time of this episode (oh dear, am I taking it too seriously?).

I haven't read any of the books but am assuming that he married Laoghaire? (So was he lying when he said he hadn't "done this for a long time", or is it a marriage in name only as Mills and Boon would say?)

I can't put my finger on exactly why I wasn't keen on it as I am obviously thrilled at the reunion but I just wanted them to move along with the story. And who was the skeleton in the cave? It has to be important.

iamdivergent · 23/10/2017 22:28

In really enjoyed it. Going to try and rewatch tomorrow

SeveredPixieBits · 23/10/2017 22:41

The breakfast with the "ladies" scene was so brilliant.

I liked Wee Ian a lot. He'll have an extra few years on him by the time they come to film the Mohawk scenes.

A second viewing gave me time to really focus on how bad Sam's wig is. Oh dear. And Claire's hair when she first took it down was ridiculous.

Can't wait for the Laoghaire reveal!
And to see Marsali.

PenguinDi · 23/10/2017 22:42

I need a rewatch but first impressions are good.

Loved:
Fergus, what a cutie
Young Ian, so cute I can see him later on in book 4 easily.
First reunion, loved the first scenes in the print shop

I agree that Jamie was a little flat when being showed the pictures, and after a while I just got bored of the sex scenes and wondered if poor Jamie had any fluids left by morning!

They have quite a bit left from the book and not long left to show it.

pixieg1rl · 23/10/2017 22:56

Good thing she managed to pack her penicillin, eh GreatWhite (I’ve been laid low all weekend with a UTI that I didn’t get in such a fun way) Envy

Whatthefoxgoingon · 23/10/2017 23:53

Well I thought it was all very believable, including the reaction to the photos. He was in shock.

The undressing seemed twice as long as the sex which was disappointingly short, try harder next time Jamie Grin

Thrilled they are back together, all the stilted awkward moments completely understandable after 20 years apart.

Lessstressedhemum · 24/10/2017 00:31

He left her after less than a year, Louise. Jenny set up the marriage and Jamie just kind of drifted along with it because his mental health was so bad. The whole thing was a disaster and he left and went to Edinburgh. He still provides for Laoghaire and her daughters, but that's all.

Claire’s wig when she first took her hair down was hilarious. Obvs then they switched to her real hair but the difference is very clear! I thought the undressing scene took waaaaaaay too long. As if they’d have had that much restraint!

Dizzybintess · 24/10/2017 00:48

That was saucy!

iamdivergent · 24/10/2017 06:23

I've not read the books, but had heard about Jamie/Leary. I can't get my head around why he would marry her tbh Hmm

quirkychick · 24/10/2017 07:51

The next episode is "Creme de Menthe" which must be smuggling, and then "First Wife" Grin.

I agree that Jamie telling Claire about Willie and the part where he mentions Ned Gowan, to get advice, will show him in a more favourable light. In the book, Claire later realises she came back after sorting out all her responsibilities, whereas Jamie had no chance to. It is also, all from Claire's perspective, so we don't get to see Jamie's reasons.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 24/10/2017 08:14

I can't get my head around why he would marry her

Me neither. I hated (and still hate) that bit. At least in the book he doesn’t know Laoghaire tried to have Claire killed for being a witch. He does in the show and still marries her.

Way to go, Jamie 🙄

quirkychick · 24/10/2017 08:35

Courtney I agree. I think it's just a clumsy plot device. What's the worst thing Jamie could have done while Claire was gone? Makes for lots of drama. Laoghaire is supposed to still love Jamie, but is really miserable with him and the marriage is a disaster. The whole thing is really cringy, including Jenny's part in it.

iamdivergent · 24/10/2017 09:33

Episode 9 - 'The Doldrums'
Episode 10 - 'Heaven and Earth'

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 24/10/2017 09:50

Agree quirky. I can understand Jamie being lonely and wanting companionship but Laoghaire?! Really?

Lazy plotting and writing.

iamdivergent · 24/10/2017 10:15

To those who have read the books...do you get to see that timeframe in the books? From Jamie's pov?

quirkychick · 24/10/2017 10:22

iamdivergent no you see Culloden, the scene where Lord Melton sends him back to Lallybroch, the cave, the prison, from Jamie's pov, but once Claire finds him it's from her pov. So she's trying to piece together what she knows of his life.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 24/10/2017 11:04

Claire's hair when she finally unpinned it.

JuneFromBethesda · 24/10/2017 11:14

Appropriate song title there Squiffany Grin

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 24/10/2017 11:38

@JuneFromBethesda I originally was going to post "believe in life after love" then realised that this one was much more apt.
I truly hope that there is a blooper reel somewhere with Catriona going "if Ah could turn back LAAAOVE" in the manner of Jack McFarlane from Will & Grace

iamdivergent · 24/10/2017 11:39

Thank you quirky

LouiseBrooks · 24/10/2017 12:34

lessstressed - thank you.
