WARNING: HERE BE DRAGONS (probably) AND SPOILERS

THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSION OF SEASON 7, EPISODE 4 "THE SPOILS OF WAR"

Come and discuss the fourth episode in the penultimate series, airing August 7th at 2am UK time! Don't read the thread if you want to avoid finding out what happens in Season 7 but also Seasons 1-6. If you have seen the leaked episode, please hold back from commenting on it until after the episode has aired to avoid spoilers for those of us who haven't been able to get a version to work

HBO description of the episode: Daenerys fights back. Jaime faces an unexpected situation. Arya comes home.

Please avoid discussing leaks and production details for Seasons 7 and 8 but speculate away on what we have learnt from the new episodes and what it might mean for the rest of the Season and the ultimate winner(s) of the Game of Thrones

I've heard this one is a cracker. Trying my best to stay awake for 2am Grin

ElenaGreco123 · 06/08/2017 22:42

Woohoo! Can't wait to see it.

honeyroar · 07/08/2017 02:02

I'm in America tonight. I'm going to cheat on my husband and watch it now, then watch it again with him when I get home! I couldn't sit here watching something else knowing HBO is on my tv and showing it.

weaselwomble · 07/08/2017 03:02

I cannot fucking cope with that ending. I spent the whole of that last scene thinking "shit Jaime is going to die"" fuck, Bronn" "omg Dany".... That was tense!

weaselwomble · 07/08/2017 03:06

Oh dear. Apologies for a)swearing so much Blush and b) potentially spoiling it for anyone right at the start. I am properly on edge Grin. If I have broken thread rules (usually lurk not post) I'm very sorry, feel free to report.

GraciesMansion · 07/08/2017 03:06

Now the series has started! Amazing tv, didn't know who's side I was supposed to be cheering for though!

InvisibleCities · 07/08/2017 03:07

I loved the Arya/Brienne "training" scene. Having Arya back at Winterfell was very emotional for me.

The whole scene at the end had me on the edge of my seat, thinking they were going to have the balls to kill Jamie. But no, magical last second save by magical Bronn Grin It's all so daft now, but I still love it!

weaselwomble · 07/08/2017 03:07

Yes Gracie I'm seriously confused Grin

weaselwomble · 07/08/2017 03:08

Do we think Jamie will survive though? He is wearing some heavy armour and was sinking quite fast.

honeyroar · 07/08/2017 03:28

I was shouting for Jaimie to survive all through the battle. It did all look a bit Leonardo/Titanic at the end though. I hope he survives. And bless Tyrion rooting for him silently, he and Jaimie do love one another.

I actually was hoping the dragon got Bron, indeed I thought it would until he started his cocky "come on you bastard" as it flew towards him. I hated seeing/hearing the injured horses, and I guess the dragon comes the animal banner and I didn't want to see it hurt. I wonder if the dragon survives.

Nice to see Ayra back at Winterfell. I liked the Brienne fight scene, but did anyone else think Little finger had a bit of a leer at her before he left, as if he realised there was another Stark girl he could have a crack at?

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 07/08/2017 04:40

That was fucking amazing

WeDoNotSow · 07/08/2017 06:17

I wanted the dragon to die. And I was sooo team dany at the very beginning.
I don't know what I want anymore.

AdalindSchade · 07/08/2017 06:36

Fuck that was amazing
Bronn will save Jaime, he wasn't wearing armour so he will be able to swim.
Loved Daenarys kicking ass finally and I'm totally still team dragons when the alternative is mad Cersei.
Littlefinger needs to die.
Sansa still seems like a petulant child. Her look when she saw Arya training with Brienne seemed pure jealousy to me.

WestleyAndButtockUp · 07/08/2017 07:10

All the feels. Sansa and Arya. Arya getting the dagger. Jon and Dany. Theon and Jon. A proper battle.

Amazing episode. I remember feeling like this watching Game of Thrones, but not for a long time.

AryaUnderfoot · 07/08/2017 07:17

I think there should be a new GoT drinking game where you have to have a shot every time Dany says 'Bend the Knee'. Urghh!

I loved the cave full of dragonglass. I reckon Jon went down with his crayola chalk set first - who would have guessed a Stark was so artistic!

Definitely the best battle scene ever. I really wanted Bronn to get that bolt down Drogon's throat!

AdalindSchade · 07/08/2017 07:17

I felt properly excited several times during that episode. Like GOT of old!

AdalindSchade · 07/08/2017 07:18

Was it drogon? I thought drogon was black. I thought she was taking her less favourite dragon to battle

AdalindSchade · 07/08/2017 07:24

Yes I think it was drogon. She can't ride the others actually can she?

WestleyAndButtockUp · 07/08/2017 07:29

I don't think it was Drogon. It had red in it.

AryaUnderfoot · 07/08/2017 07:35

It was Drogon.

WinifredAtwellsOtherPiano · 07/08/2017 08:17

I did enjoy that. The way people who'd seen the leaks were talking about it made me think it was going to be All Action All The Time. But I loved the quieter scenes and the fact that they gave enough space to Arya's return.

I think they're gearing up for Littlefinger doing something truly appalling. Loved him sliming up to Bran the Rightful Heir and being shot down, but I need Arya or Sansa or Davos to come up to him and shout "YES, WE GET IT. YOU'RE THE THREE EYED RAVEN YOU KNOW EVERYTHING. NOW TELL US EVERYTHING YOU KNOW THAT WILL BE USEFUL. IN COMPLETE SENTENCES!"

How many episodes can they string out the "bend the knee" plot before someone finally suggests they break the impasse by just marrying already?

DispatchReady · 07/08/2017 09:03

Phew just watched! I know Jamie and Bronn have to survive but it was a bit daft how they just kept dodging the fire! When all the archers were aimed at Dany and Drogon why didn't she just shout "dracarys"? And when Bronn was aiming at them?! Not saying I want those characters to die but it's getting a bit silly - early seasons they'd have been a goner! Great battle scene though!

Loved the Winterfell scenes - makes me chuckle when Arya tells anyone about her list or who she's going to kill and they just laugh at her indulgently like what a silly child!

Bran is annoying! Why not just tell his sisters what he's seen?! Poor Meera - what an ungrateful sod he is!

Love Davos - fewer! And agree the Missandei thing might be foreshadowing...no scene is wasted remember!

WeDoNotSow · 07/08/2017 09:06

I want to know WHY there are so many of Dany's enemies on the field, yet she's riding Drogon in a line burning all the food
Surprised she wasn't shouting 'burn them all' tbh. Or 'bend the knee' lol
Sansa's still a hater, don't know why she stormed off after Arya's and Brienne's sparring session.
