WARNING: HERE BE DRAGONS (probably) AND SPOILERS

THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSION OF SEASON 7, EPISODE 4 "THE SPOILS OF WAR"

Come and discuss the fourth episode in the penultimate series, airing August 7th at 2am UK time! Don't read the thread if you want to avoid finding out what happens in Season 7 but also Seasons 1-6. If you have seen the leaked episode, please hold back from commenting on it until after the episode has aired to avoid spoilers for those of us who haven't been able to get a version to work

HBO description of the episode: Daenerys fights back. Jaime faces an unexpected situation. Arya comes home.

Please avoid discussing leaks and production details for Seasons 7 and 8 but speculate away on what we have learnt from the new episodes and what it might mean for the rest of the Season and the ultimate winner(s) of the Game of Thrones

I think Jaime was abotu 17 when he killed the Mad King. I love the idea of a Jaime/Dany pairing - now that would be a true 'shock and awe' moment for the show.

Tywin would be smiling even though he never did up from his grave if he knew that he'd finally got his wish of marrying one of his children to a Targaryan.

I think that Jamie is more Dany's type than Jon.

I saw a fan theory that Cersei is actually Gendry's mother. Has anyone else seen that?

Shboogiebop · 13/08/2017 17:03

I'm confused, who is fAegon please?

Trills · 13/08/2017 17:13

A book-only character who doesn't seem likely to feature in the show.

AryaUnderfoot · 13/08/2017 17:17

fAegon is a character in the book series. He is introduced to Tyrion after Varys ships him out of King's Landing after his trial for Joff's murder. He is introduced as Youg Griff and is a boy of abotu sixteen with very Targaryan features.

After travelling on his boat for a while with various companions, Tyrion figures out that Young Griff is, in fact, Aegon Targaryan - the son of Rhaegar Targaryan that Gregor Clegane supposedly murdered during the sack of King's Landing. He was 'spirited away' by Varys and Magister Illyrio before Robert Baratheon took power and has been raised and educated in the free cities.

He is poised to return to Westeros as the 'rightful' heir to the Iron Throne - supported by Jon Connington who was a friend of Rhaegar's and leads the Golden Company of sellswords.

There is a common theory that Aegon is, in fact, a pretender and an heir of either a bastard or exiled branch of the Targaryan family, hence fAegon. There is lots of evidence to support this. Either way, in the books he is likely to be an obstacle to Dany taking the throne.

He is supported by Varys and is making alliances with Dorne. It is likely that he will also be supported by parts of the Reach (likely Randyll Tarly).

He's not in the books but the Golden Company was mentioned last episode as possibly being bought to support Cersei.

Correction - meant to say 'he's not in the show'.

ElenaGreco123 · 13/08/2017 19:21

It is nearly time for episode 5.

Mustang27 · 13/08/2017 19:46

My thoughts exactly Elena GrinGrin

ElenaGreco123 · 13/08/2017 19:50

I'll not be able to watch it till Wednesday.

Shboogiebop · 13/08/2017 19:56

Ah thanks, I'm only on the first book.

OlennasWimple · 13/08/2017 20:58

aayla - I've seen that theory and I don't think there is anything in it. What incentive would Cersei have to give away her son by Robert? I believe that the only reason Gendry is show remembering that his mother has blonde hair is to underline that his dark colourings come from his father (ie Robert - The Seed Is Strong)

Is there a thread for episode 5 yet?

OlennasWimple · 13/08/2017 21:10

New thread is here!

Maybe fAegon will be introduced to Cersei and be the one who ends up on the throne, with her staying queen as they marry? (Trying to legitamise her existing reign) That potentially ties together him arriving with the GC in the books, with Cersei hiring the GC in the series?

Of course that could all happen and him lose the throne when everyone figures out he's a big fake

I doubt it personally, but stranger things have happened.
