That was such a great episode. Up there with Hardhome for me.
The battle was great, I kept changing sides as I didn't want Bronn to die ( well, till he started firing at the dragon) and I don't want Jamie to die yet - I'd like to see a Jamie/Tyrion reunion. And a Bronn/Tryrion reunion. Cersie knows how her scorpions work ..
I loved the Bran/ Arya/ Sansa reunion! You 'saw' me at the crossroads ... Bran has visions ... I thought you'd go to kings landing ... why would she go there ... Cersie is on her list. Sansa's face: what the fuck ... the bloody list is a thing and bran knows all about it ... they are as mad as each other!
I don't think sansa was annoyed/ jealous of the Arya/Brienne fight. I think she really saw that she doesn't know Arya any more than she knows bran. And that Arya is not only totally serious about her list, but fully capable of acting on it.
I don't think little finger was leering at Arya, I think he was thinking he's had it if he doesn't think very fast. Remember, Arya back in season 2, when she was serving girl for Tywin. She heard them plotting to kill Robb ... and LF knew it was her. And Brans 'chaos is a ladder' was a reference back to LF telling Varys that his life philosophy is to spread chaos and us it to climb the political ladder. Bran is on to LF ... and has given the dagger to Arya, LF knows he's in trouble with the two new Stark kids. He's going to have to try some major manipulation of Sansa.
I hope the mountain is in it next week. And we've not had any whitewalkers yet and now we are more than half way through the season!!

It didn't occur to me for ages that if Dany takes Jaime prisoner he is in serious trouble because he killed her father. Now admittedly everyone, even Dany, agrees that he totally had it coming but still, it has to cast rather a pall over their relationship.

AryaUnderfoot · 08/08/2017 06:45

last season the Children created the walkers to fight off the First Men? Now they were all fighting a common enemy all along?

The children creating the white walkers is a show-only thing. If it is in the books, then it hasn't been revealed yet. However, there was a great alliance between the children and the First Men forged by a legendary character called the Last Hero to defeat the Others. It was a story told by Old Nan to Bran.

In the books the Cave of Convenience (I think Jon took his crayola set and did it himself) will probably be the isle of convenience on the Isle of Faces near Harrenhal. I still think Harrenhal would be a must better 'base' for Dany's army.

christmasunicorn · 08/08/2017 06:48

Dany takes Jaime prisoner he is in serious trouble because he killed her father

Ooo and as she plans to kill him Tyrion could release him, just like Jamie did for him. It next weeks Trailer Tyrion looks very uncomfortable with Dany and the direction she's going in. Maybe Tyrion will change sides and declare for Jon and the North. Dany and her dragons are needed to kill the whitewalkers, that is their purpose. But I think it is becoming increasingly unlikely she will become queen.

LotisBlue · 08/08/2017 07:21

Place marking to post later

AdalindSchade · 08/08/2017 07:43

OOh what if Jon and tyrion are the other heads of the dragons and the steal the dragons and take them off to fight white walkers!

WeDoNotSow · 08/08/2017 07:43

It would make sense for the Isle of Faces though. No-one goes there.
I think that would just be story telling rather than a 'convenience plot' because we've been outright told told that the children were on that island.
As opposed to here is a cave, it conveniently has made all my arguments for me.

SoPassRemarkable · 08/08/2017 07:45

I have no idea if this is true or not so not a spoiler.

But years ago I read somewhere about abthought that Gendry was the bastard son of someone important......and therefore May Be one of the most important characters in the show?

WeDoNotSow · 08/08/2017 07:47

Gendry is Robert's bastard.
He may be of importance, if he ever stops rowing lol

SoPassRemarkable · 08/08/2017 07:50

Yes, I knew Robert is meant to be his dad just wasn't sure if I should write that here or not. Don't remember this being acknowledged on the tv show so not sure if it's common knowledge.

EllaHen · 08/08/2017 07:54

I miss the Hound.

Apart from that - cracking episode.

In season 6, Sansa said 'no-one can protect me'. Well, now 'no-one' is there to protect her.

ZacharyQuack · 08/08/2017 07:56

The show has stated that Gendry is Robert's bastard. That's why Melisandre wanted to kill him, because there is power in the king's blood.

Mner · 08/08/2017 07:59

Wow. That was an amazing episode. I had no idea whose side I was on, which a first and slightly odd as we don't really know any dothraki at the mo. Just didn't want any horses to die!

Even though all 3 dragons cannot possibly make it to the end, I was really upset when they brought out the dragon shooter thing.

Poor drogon. He takes a fair battering for Dany here and in merengue but I loved seeing him protect his 'mum'.

Mner · 08/08/2017 08:00

Bloody autocorrect. Mereen

SleepingBooty · 08/08/2017 08:06

Having rewatched it, I think it was Dickon who saved Jamie.

Jmangel · 08/08/2017 08:09

Ooh it was so hard to watch. Love Bronn and really had split loyalties - Dany/Jamie - aaaargh! So stressful. Felt like watching a major action film - the production was phenomenal. Hope Bronn and Jamie are alive? Even though hate Cercei, love those two.

EllaHen · 08/08/2017 08:10

Yes, Dickon saved Jaime. I may have cheered at that point despite being on the other side.

AdalindSchade · 08/08/2017 08:21

Dickon saved Jaime once during the battle, was it him who knocked him off his horse at the end?

Trills · 08/08/2017 08:23

I think it was deliberately unclear who knocked Jaime into the water.

ForTheSnarkWasABoojumYouSee · 08/08/2017 08:23

That's a brilliant idea Adelind. In all the millions of words of speculation I don't think I've seen a suggestion that the dragons will be split. I can't honestly believe that the other two would ever fight against their mummy, but I guess they could just go elsewhere.

ForTheSnarkWasABoojumYouSee · 08/08/2017 08:25

Looking at the geography of the situation, that water Jaime fell into must be four feet deep, tops. I reckon at the beginning of the next episode he'll just stand up and cough a bit.

EllaHen · 08/08/2017 08:27

Ah, yes - I was referring to during the battle rather than at the end.

We didn't see who that was and I assumed Bron. I did say to dh though that it seemed out of character. Don't know why I thought that as Bron has a long history of saving people but I did nonetheless. Thinking about it, it could have been Dickon, couldn't it?

nigelsbigface · 08/08/2017 08:27

Nocoolnames -'Form Square!' GrinGrin my boyfriend and I just watched his entire Sharpe box set...bloody love Sharpe, me.

AccioMerlot · 08/08/2017 08:34

There was definitely a tracking shot type thing of the dragon burning all the way along the train of carts.

In the book there is a lot of emphasis on raiders (led by the mountain maybe?) raiding and burning food stores. And on how hard the incoming winter is going to be.

Wouldn't surprise me if GRRM ended up getting bored of all the political machinations and just starved everyone to death!

AryaUnderfoot · 08/08/2017 08:50

Jaime is going to survive because even though he's fallen into very deep water and is wearing full plate, he is wearing what's known as 'Valyrian Steel Plot Armour'. It's the same thing that stopped Arya dying of multiple stab wounds in season 6.

All he has to do is remove his golden hand and he'll bob up to the surface like a cork.
