WARNING: HERE BE DRAGONS (probably) AND SPOILERS

THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSION OF SEASON 7, EPISODE 4 "THE SPOILS OF WAR"

Come and discuss the fourth episode in the penultimate series, airing August 7th at 2am UK time! Don't read the thread if you want to avoid finding out what happens in Season 7 but also Seasons 1-6. If you have seen the leaked episode, please hold back from commenting on it until after the episode has aired to avoid spoilers for those of us who haven't been able to get a version to work

HBO description of the episode: Daenerys fights back. Jaime faces an unexpected situation. Arya comes home.

Please avoid discussing leaks and production details for Seasons 7 and 8 but speculate away on what we have learnt from the new episodes and what it might mean for the rest of the Season and the ultimate winner(s) of the Game of Thrones

Wow. Just wow. I thought nothing could top the Battle of the Bastards but that came pretty close.

That Davos less/fewer thing was an affectionate tribute to Stannis, who always corrected it (or did at least once). Stannis was a good character.

Off now to find next week's preview.

WeDoNotSow · 07/08/2017 09:11

Seriously the Bran hate is getting to me.
He's not ungrateful he's the three eyed fucking raven.
I'd like to see you suddenly become omnipresent, and see how you deal with it.
Knowing you were responsible for Hodor being Hodor, god knows what else he knows he's responsible for.
His poor little brain can only take so much.
Although tbh, I'm surprised his brain wasn't already fried after witnessing Lannister twincest. That's enough to get anyone reaching for the brain bleach. Bleurgh

I was cringing when Dany burnt the food stores. I know that it was a tactically strong move but did nobody tell you that Winter Is Coming Dany? That's the entire autumn harvest of Highgarden you're destroying. You're killing thousands of innocent women and children just as surely as if you'd flamed them then and there.

rasmusklump · 07/08/2017 09:16

Just watched on the edge of my seat! I hope Drogon is going to be ok! Dany has been really annoying recently but I've got a super soft spot for those dragons Grin

WinifredAtwellsOtherPiano · 07/08/2017 09:17

I don't hold the inscrutability thing against Bran, I blame everyone else for not pinning him down with a list of questions and a good shorthand secretary and keeping going until they're all answered.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/08/2017 09:20

Definitely Drogon.

AdalindSchade · 07/08/2017 09:29

Why didn't she burn the army and have the dothraki take the grain and gold back to dragon stone?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/08/2017 09:36

Too late for the gold, that's already back at King's Landing.

DispatchReady · 07/08/2017 09:57

Sorry about the Bran hate Wedonot Grinfair point he's got a lot on his mind (literally!) but poor old Meera has been through it all with him and deserved a bit more of a thanks and maybe a hug!

Yes just bit silly why Dany just didn't annihilate every man on that field and then fly off - job done and then Dothraki collect the stores.

I need to rewatch - always pick up lots more second time around.

WeDoNotSow · 07/08/2017 10:33

I appreciate it it Dispatch
I feel like it's very lonely over here on Team of one Bran. Grin

WeDoNotSow · 07/08/2017 10:34

I mean, the guy who plays Bran isn't even team Bran Grin

ChaircatMiaow · 07/08/2017 11:20

I spent the last ten minutes of that episode actually squealing with excitement.

How can there only be three episodes left this season? We've only just started 😭😭😭😭

AdalindSchade · 07/08/2017 11:43

Bran actor is growing up into a very beautiful man I think

AdalindSchade · 07/08/2017 11:43

3 more? Isn't it 4?

FanwankTheAbsurd · 07/08/2017 12:39

I loved it. Officially my fave episode.

Loved the Arya and Brienne scene, top marks.
Loved the whole battle, brilliant. I want a Drogon.

Trills · 07/08/2017 12:44

Jaime deffo not dead. If he were dead they'd have made sure we knew it.

Trills · 07/08/2017 12:44

Maybe daddy Tarly is dead, and Dickon will decide that actually his dad was a bit of a dick and he'd like to be nice to Sam and listen to him and help him save the world, because book-learning is important too.

Trills · 07/08/2017 12:48

I don't think Sansa was in a strop about Brienne and Arya sparring. I don't think she was "hey Brienne you're my friend don't play with my little sister".

I saw it more as Arya has changed a lot. I've changed too. We've all changed. Just being home and having (some of) my family back isn't going to make everything better".

Which she knew already, but every extra reminder is still going to be hard.

ForTheSnarkWasABoojumYouSee · 07/08/2017 12:58

I don't think Daddy Tarly is dead, I think he's too good a character to be thrown away - he'll be back with some appealing dragon-flame facial scarring, even more of a bastard than before. I do like Dickon though, more of him please.

Trills · 07/08/2017 13:01

You're right, they've spent long enough making him be a recognisable person that he won't die offscreen.

BeyondQueenOfLists · 07/08/2017 13:11

I actually wonder (on second watch this morning) if Sansa is finally feeling safe with arya there. Sure she had Jon and brienne, but neither of them feel to her as completely on her side as arya is?

Bronns horse screaming was awful :( and I stand by my observation that that scene where he is running through the battle to the ballista reminded me of Saving Private Ryan

BeyondQueenOfLists · 07/08/2017 13:13

Apparently there are seven episodes. I thought there were eight too

badabing36 · 07/08/2017 13:17

BlueeSpottyTiger · 07/08/2017 13:21

wedonotsow that twincest comment made me lol. Urghh! 🙈

CeeBeeBee · 07/08/2017 13:27

Jaime can't die yet as I think it will be him who kills Cersei rather than Tyrion. I really hope Drogon recovers.

I suspect Sansa is probably envious of Arya's ability with the sword and how she seems closer to Brb than herself. She may start to feel isolated that she'll turn to Littlefinger and betray her siblings. I hope Arya, with the help of Bran, gets him with the Valyrian dagger first.
