WARNING: HERE BE DRAGONS (probably) AND SPOILERS

THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSION OF SEASON 7, EPISODE 4 "THE SPOILS OF WAR"

Come and discuss the fourth episode in the penultimate series, airing August 7th at 2am UK time! Don't read the thread if you want to avoid finding out what happens in Season 7 but also Seasons 1-6. If you have seen the leaked episode, please hold back from commenting on it until after the episode has aired to avoid spoilers for those of us who haven't been able to get a version to work

HBO description of the episode: Daenerys fights back. Jaime faces an unexpected situation. Arya comes home.

Please avoid discussing leaks and production details for Seasons 7 and 8 but speculate away on what we have learnt from the new episodes and what it might mean for the rest of the Season and the ultimate winner(s) of the Game of Thrones

And I'm interpreting Sansa's "look" as her realising that being safe now, she can finally deal with LF

OlennasWimple · 07/08/2017 13:39

Wowsers, that was good!

Some sort of huge Littlefinger-based twist is inevitable, but yes it would be glorious if that twist was "Sansa agrees to marry Littlefinger secretly in the Godswood, but when he turns up he finds only the three Starks, and Sansa and Bran watch as Arya beheads him".

ArmySal · 07/08/2017 13:41

Just watched, I loved it. "You fucking idiot" Grin

CeeBeeBee · 07/08/2017 13:41

Sansa needs to know the truth first but Littefinger has been successful in manipulating her and will potentially divide the Starks.

We've had it confirmed that the prince that was promised is gender-neutral, so maybe the "little brother" is gender-neutral too and it'll be someone's little sister who kills Cersei. It was "the valonqar" not "your valonqar" after all.

Trills · 07/08/2017 13:45

I wonder if Nymeria was younger than Lady?

Cersei insisted on Lady's death even thought she did nothing, and her little sister will come and kill Cersei in revenge.

(other available little sisters include Arya and Dany, of course)

FlyingJellyfishintheAttic · 07/08/2017 13:50

Has anyone seen the theory about Daenerys' battles mimicking Azor Ahai tempering lightbringer?

susurration · 07/08/2017 14:24

Well, fucking hell. So. Much. Fire.

I'm not sure i'm rooting for Dany really, I mean tbh is she any better than the mad king? She has just burned the entire food source for a lot of people and is going to end up killing everyone that way instead.

Arya's return, amazing. I think poor Sansa is having a hell of a week isn't she, the poor thing. First Bran comes back and barely says a word to her, now Arya is back and Bran not only is more chatty to her, but Arya turns out to be some sort of incredible ninja. She must be wondering if she is the only normal one anymore. I feel a bit like there are several shades of Cersei in her, in the way she walks and looks at people.

Jon and Theon's reunion, I was waiting for him to give him a good thump in the face.

BeyondQueenOfLists · 07/08/2017 14:29

Dany might be a bit mad queen, but at least they were soldiers that she roasted with her flying WMD. It's still better than storming KL on drogon.

I foresee the food situation being rather dire next season, theyve made a big deal of it in every episode so far. Maybe they'll defeat the night king, but then everyone starves 😕

Trills · 07/08/2017 14:39

Cersei was Sansa's model for "how to walk about looking like you're in charge".

OlennasWimple · 07/08/2017 15:13

Apparently this episode broke the TV record for most people set on fire at the same time!

DispatchReady · 07/08/2017 15:40

Winifred that would be amazing! Grin

AryaUnderfoot · 07/08/2017 16:36

Trills in the book Maester Pycelle confirms to Cersei that Valonqar is gender neutral.

My money is still on Arya.

AryaUnderfoot · 07/08/2017 16:40

WeDoNotSow I'm also on team Bran. Dr Manhatten couldn't cope with being able to see the entire past, present and future and stay 'attached' to earth so I don't know why Bran should be expected to.

Actually, I'm on team Stark in general. That includes Sansa, so you probably hate me now!

Trills · 07/08/2017 16:46

They didn't have that conversation in the show did they? So it was only after Missandei corrected Melisandre that "show world" confirmed that High Valyrian can be gender-neutral.

I thought it was the case anyway but it's nice to have things confirmed on screen. And I do want it to be a little sister rather than a little brother.

I want the final series to be all about women getting shit done.

youngestisapsycho · 07/08/2017 16:57

Blimey... my heart was racing.. I didn't want any of them to die... I kept thinking Jaime would turn and see lil Tyrian standing up on the hill.

AryaUnderfoot · 07/08/2017 17:09

Trills is Valonqar even mentioned in the show at all? I don't remember it being (off to search Maggy the Frog on YouTube)...

AryaUnderfoot · 07/08/2017 17:12

Defo no Valonqar!

WeDoNotSow · 07/08/2017 17:18

Arya I don't mind Sansa tbh, I just think she's still got that spoilt brat in her. I can't stand all the 'badass boss bitch' crap.

Although i like her much better than Daenerys and I never thought I'd say that when I first started watching!

I do luff Cersei as well, not as in I'm rooting for her, but as a character she's great, and I'll be very sad when she's disposed of.

WeDoNotSow · 07/08/2017 17:19

There must be a very good reason they left the 'valonqar' bit out of the show. I'm guessing then that it plays out differently than in the book?
And they were aware of that?

WeDoNotSow · 07/08/2017 17:24

in the book Maester Pycelle confirms to Cersei that Valonqar is gender neutral
I dont remember that, what did he say?
I know that it was confirmed that the Valyrian word for prince is gender neutral, but not Valonqar?

AryaUnderfoot · 07/08/2017 17:29

WeDoNotSow off to go searching for source of Valonqar and gender. Only 6000 pages to go through.... Be back in a while...

AryaUnderfoot · 07/08/2017 17:49

Maybe I'm remembering it wrongly. Pycelle tells her that 'our marrows shouldn't be foretold' but I can't find the bit about Valyrian and gender. IBooks search facility is rubbish.

More searching needed...
