WARNING: HERE BE DRAGONS (probably) AND SPOILERS

THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSION OF SEASON 7, EPISODE 4 "THE SPOILS OF WAR"

Come and discuss the fourth episode in the penultimate series, airing August 7th at 2am UK time! Don't read the thread if you want to avoid finding out what happens in Season 7 but also Seasons 1-6. If you have seen the leaked episode, please hold back from commenting on it until after the episode has aired to avoid spoilers for those of us who haven't been able to get a version to work

HBO description of the episode: Daenerys fights back. Jaime faces an unexpected situation. Arya comes home.

Please avoid discussing leaks and production details for Seasons 7 and 8 but speculate away on what we have learnt from the new episodes and what it might mean for the rest of the Season and the ultimate winner(s) of the Game of Thrones

Nah, WeDoNotSow I must be misremembering my conversations. I think it's Aemon's conversations with Sam about gender in HIgh Valyrian that I'm remembering whereas Cersei has conversations with Pycelle about prophecies and Taena Merryweather about the Valonqar.

I must be turning into Sansa and starting to imagine things that haven't happened.

OlennasWimple · 07/08/2017 18:16

In the books it's Aemon who tells Sam that High Valyerian is gender neutral (and so he believes that Dany is the Prince(ss) Who Was Promised). The valonqhar has been absent from the show so far - I guess they could do another flash back to the Maggy the Frog scene, but it would surely feel a bit tagged on at this point?

It's a shame this plot was omitted from the show - it was only after I read the books that I really understood why Cersei hates Tyrion so much.

there are loads of references in the books to how unreliable prophecies are (mostly in the Dany chapters, I think)

Holy fucking moly!

Watched earlier but had to go straight out shopping after, I swear my heart was pounding all the way round.

Now back, shopping is away, I have a cup of tea, and I've pressed play again. I'm hoping for less 'horse maiming'' induced squealing and yelping this time around though.

Arya rocks and I think she is going to cut Cersei's throat with that Valerian dagger.

Dany - love her.

Jaime - thought I didn't care either way until I thought he was going to die! Although I still wanted Dany and Drogon to win that face off.

Tyrion - love him.

Bronn - should have been dragon ash.

Sansa - meh.

LF - somebody please give him a long painful death.

Bran - cool as fuck.

I'm still jittery!

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 07/08/2017 19:00

Jaime can't be dead. I'm not having that.

I would like Brienne to be involved in the fucking up of Littlefinger, which can't happen soon enough for me.

Jonsnowsghost · 07/08/2017 19:05

That was amazing!! (although having horses I really didn't like the maiming and screaming of them - repeat to myself 'its just a tv show' Grin)
Dany is getting on my nerves but I love the dragons. Loved Arya' s return and the stupid guards, i want the Starks to take the iron throne!

WeDoNotSow · 07/08/2017 19:20

I must be turning into Sansa Grin

I'm glad it was you misremembering, I was thinking 'how the hell did I miss THAT?'

I don't think it was confirmed that Valyrian in general is gender neutral, but rather that because it was confirmed that the word for 'prince' is, it was a possibility that the whole language was. Hence the 'little sister' theories

Trills · 07/08/2017 19:28

No valonqar at all? That's a shame.

Spookle · 07/08/2017 20:00

Just as mind blowing second time around. I can't quite think straight yet.

As I wanted to give a shout out to Ramin Djawadi for his amazing score I might have seven different versions of the main theme I Googled his name to confirm the spelling... I've never seen him before..

Thought I'd share.. just this once mind! I'm weak at the knees for a whole other reason now!

Awesome episode!

Loved Brienne, Sansa and Arya! LF you are so finished.
It was touching to see Sansa welcome Arya. Although I am not Team Bran (sorry), but I felt that he was sad for what he lost.

Tyrion, Dickon, Jaime and Bronn demonstrated the horror of war perfectly.

As mentioned before, why oh why has Dany burnt the food?! How is she planning to rule?! She has been apprentice Queen for a while now, she must have heard about panem and circenses.

I was 100% convinced that valonqar is genderless Confused

BlueKarou · 07/08/2017 20:09

Gah! What an episode!

I like too many of the characters, I'm starting to get worried that eventually someone has to die.

I like Sansa, Arya, Jon, Tyrion, Jaime, Dany... surely they can't all survive?!?

AryaUnderfoot · 07/08/2017 20:19

In the show was it Littlefinger who sent the assassin after Bran, or did he just try to frame it on Tyrion for the sake of convenience?

TheSecondOfHerName · 07/08/2017 20:20

The last ten minutes or so was incredible.

Loved it when Davos corrected Jon's 'less' to 'fewer'.

SleepThief84 · 07/08/2017 20:25

Oh. My. God! That was immense! Loved the whole episode, that battle was on par with BOTB. The music is just fantastic too.

The question is, is Jamie dead? I'm 50/50 OH says no.

Can't wait until next week. Am disappointed that we are already halfway through the series though!

FadedRed · 07/08/2017 20:36

Maybe they can import food from Dany's previous conquests across the sea. It would appear they have ships left.

Trills · 07/08/2017 20:41

Short-term thinking.

Burn the food so the enemy can't withstand a siege.

Don't worry that Winter Is Here.

ImListening · 07/08/2017 20:46

I love Tyrion, Jon & Arya
Loathe LF
Can't make out Sansa
Love Brienne & want her to marry Jaime

Meh about Dany though I did love her at first

TeamCersei · 07/08/2017 20:47

I love the way the Starks are all coming together now.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 07/08/2017 20:47

Jaime is so not dead! Bets on Tyrion rushing down there to make sure he gets fished out, then taking him prisoner of war? Then Dany will want to burn him because Kingslayer, but Tyrion will plead for his life.

I do rather hope the dragons go and burn Euron Flashheart's fleet now.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 07/08/2017 20:52

I think Sansa was looking impressed at Arya's fighting skills. Loved the grins of respect Arya and Brienne shared!

I want Arya, Sansa, Brienne, Tyrion, Jaime and Sam to survive. Less bothered about Jon and Dany. Cersei has got to be dead meat, and I couldn't care less about Bran anymore.

Cooroo · 07/08/2017 20:55

Listen, I love Bronn as much as the next woman, but how dare he snigger at 'Dickon'? Has he never read The Secret Garden??

CeeBeeBee · 07/08/2017 21:05

But where was the hound in that episode? I hope he survives too.

ImListening · 07/08/2017 21:06

I can't believe I forgot Sam - he is one of my favourite's

GuinefortGrey · 07/08/2017 21:25

What if Arya steals Jamie's face and then kills Cersei?!? Then it would be both a little sister and a little brother Shock** boggles own brain

SolemnlyFarts · 07/08/2017 21:27

I definitely don't think they burned all the food - they were bringing back enough to feed Cersei's armies, no way did all that fit in a few carts. They were talking about the rear being exposed and the supply train being stretched out before the shit hit the fan, so I think Dany has secured her supplies now.

But how in God's name did they get there?? Did all the Dothraki cram into Theon's ship, or what?

nigelsbigface · 07/08/2017 21:34

The Dragon can't be dead from that-it's was only a wee scratch to the shoulder surely?

I think Bron will save Jamie...Loved Tyrian worrying about him from the sidelines...

I'd Bend the Knee were I Jon, to stop Dany boring on about it.For gods sake you daft cow-be the ruler of 6 kingdoms and matey with the King of the 7th...why does it matter so much? she does my head in! And yes, why burn the food and not the Bloody army?

In fact why actually send the Dothraki at all, if you could simply ride your dragon and roast everyone within 29 seconds if you thought tactically? What a waste of a load of horse types...she does my head in!! Think woman!

I like Sansa...I think she was pleased to see Arya and that look was a sort of acknowledgement that Arya had actually been right when they were kids to want to learn to fight rather than plait hair and get married-Sansa was recognising and respecting her kid sister at last...
