On tonight at 9 on ITV, this is a six part murder mystery set set against the backdrop of Loch Ness. It looks promising and I love watching Siobhan Finneran:

At least the plot moved on a bit last night, although I think that the body in the loch would have deteriorated considerably during the week (?) it's been down there - it appeared to be in good nick. Still lots of questions to be answered in the last episode!

PollyPelargonium52 · 10/07/2017 08:07

I am really enjoying this series. I love Scotland too so that definitely helps! The amazing scenery and the lovely Scottish accents. :) The actress who was in Happy Valley is excellent IMO.

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 10/07/2017 08:09

It's quite cold and dark (and deep). So long as nothing fish-like (or Nessie like!) ate him, he should last okay for a week, easily.

Optimist1 · 10/07/2017 08:32

There are plenty of fish in Loch Ness, though they might be vegetarians.

am just watching last episode on catch-up (signed off sick and told to rest) and am sooo annoyed at the thought that annoying Allbrighton is going to be proved right after all

it will be Petrie who's manipulated them all, won't it?

that last visit to the boy's house and asking to use the bathroom: what has he put in his toothpaste or whatever?

please tell me there will be another twist and Quigley rather than Allbrighton will come out top

NotCitrus · 10/07/2017 12:39

I was right that Alan's confession was he never saw Nessie! Grin

I'm liking Quigley now, and hope that she can deliver some more put-downs to Allbrighton.

That dam must have the worst security ever. And all those homes have lovely furniture and kitchens and crockery... Envy

corythatwas · 10/07/2017 12:59

Well, last time I watched a murder/thriller series because it had an actor I admired from Downton in it, it was a dead loss; the Level couldn't have been more boring if it tried.

But the Loch, despite its occasional silliness (who hangs around finishing a "tableau" when a teenager is bleeding out next to you? who talks to a young woman with pre-eclampsia about murders?- you're supposed to be keeping that blood pressure down, you supposed medic) has got me hooked. And it makes perfect use of the formidable Miss O'Brien. Definitely rooting for her.

notheroldie · 10/07/2017 17:51

The teacher planted the hammer and hook when he went upstairs 'to use the bathroom'. To set Dessy up. I thought he shot the kids too, but Keiron didn't say when he woke up, so maybe not.

notheroldie · 10/07/2017 18:00

And keiron has cussed out his brother isn't in a coma because of his dirty feet, but hasn't questioned his EVERSO dodgy mum. So something more is going on there and significant!
And how come you've seen it all on Oz already when its a British drama! Wish I'd know that they got shown there first then I wouldn't have had to endure the last few episodes of the last Broadchurch ( which was the worst series they did Imo)

kwisatzhaderach · 11/07/2017 04:16

notheroldie I was surprised to see we got it all before you did (as did the Netherlands I think).
I have been sitting here on my hands, whilst you all make guesses and observations as to who/what (e.g. thought about a warning re the shooting)
Spoiler hint : there has been some good and close guesses but there is a twist to the end and the final scene is a nod back to the first scene

AgentProvocateur · 11/07/2017 07:53

I think desi's mum is the murderer, and she hid the knives in the loft space. Maybe the first victim was her ex (heartless bastard?), johnjo was bullying desi, and the piano teacher was in a relationship with desi.... plenty of motive.

hollyisalovelyname · 11/07/2017 09:35

When does it air in the UK ?
Was Desi killed or did he escape?
I missed that bit Blush

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 11/07/2017 09:55

Desi was dead, I think he shot himself, possibly in a struggle with the other boy whose name I can't remember. Oo, maybe it was really him?

It's on Sunday night at 9ish on itv, up against handmaids tale on ch4

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 11/07/2017 09:57

They DNA tested all men aged 18-40something, wasn't it. I was assuming we'd know if the heart belonged to any of the boys fathers cause of that, but now I have just realised that they are probably all 17 and so none of them were tested!!

Clawdy · 11/07/2017 10:39

Don't think there was time for the teacher to hide the weapons in the loft like that - and he wasn't carrying anything as I remember. What seemed odd to me was that nobody queried Dessie carrying that huge case with the gun inside, on a school trip. Why did noone say "What's in there?" Or did I miss some dialogue?

hollyisalovelyname · 11/07/2017 10:52

I agree Clawdy re the big black case Desi was carrying.
Did his mum say she was going on a date to the policewoman ? I missed some of the dialogue.

Optimist1 · 11/07/2017 11:20

Yes, she was going on a date with Leighton, I think!

userblahblahwhatever · 11/07/2017 11:29

His mates said to him why have you brought your curling stick Dessie! Show us what's in your bag! And he moodily shrugged them off

userblahblahwhatever · 11/07/2017 11:42

In the last episode the husband of the detective admitted he made up his claim about seeing the Loch Ness monster. I think it's him trying to get the thrill and infamy. One by one he's tried to set others up.

Part of me thinks the boy in the coma must be key too?!

hollyisalovelyname · 11/07/2017 18:38

Who is Dessie's father?

gazzalw · 11/07/2017 19:32

Don't think it's the teacher at all, although everything is leading us to believe that it is....

WellErrr · 11/07/2017 20:46

I'm sticking with it - but is it supposed to be a comedy? It's just ridiculous.

I'm just on episode 4 - Jonjo's parents just walked right into the post mortem room.

I'm spending an hour each week shouting 'THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN!'

NotCitrus · 11/07/2017 22:02

It looked like Jonjo's parents had been shown down there, either for formal ID purposes or just to say goodbye, so that didn't strike me as implausible at all. Implausible is the restriction of the DNA to ages 18-44 when so many key players are probably below that (the sixth formers) or older (Alan, Petrie, but apparently not Marr!)

Dessie's mum was the one Annie set up with Leighton in the first ep, and it was implied she decided to go on a (another?) date with him after all.

I'm wondering if Keiran was blackmailing Niall Swift over shagging Dessie? He's way too quiet. Did like how Evie seemed to be growing up in ep5 though.

AgentProvocateur · 11/07/2017 22:58

Hollyisalovelyname, I think he's the guy in the loch, but who knows!

hollyisalovelyname · 12/07/2017 01:07

I think so too.
