Did we see the sisters husband??

LarkDescending · 24/11/2016 16:10

We saw Eve's sister's husband at the hospital with his wife, as Eve recovered from the birth.

Eve's surrogate baby was born on 23 or 24 December 2014, so would be too young to be Lucy who seems to be about 4? in 2016.

SecondaryQuandary · 24/11/2016 16:15

Not sure if this has been done, but assuming the reason Gettrick has framed the butcher is his hatred for his wife. "She left me for four days"

maryrosa · 24/11/2016 16:21

Hmm... Baptiste's wife managed to transport herself from Paris to Eckhausen in the time that he was sat at a table?
And why did Henry Reed feel beholden to the little Iraqi boy and yet not to his abused 13 yr old sister who just dissappeared into the night?
Anyway, went to bed with my heart racing and couldn't get to sleep - so still the best thing I've watched in ages.

MoonfaceAndSilky · 24/11/2016 16:21

I do think it will turn out that Drilla swapped the DNA samples

Orrrrr maybe Sam is Lena's Dad as well, if Gettrick was a friend of the family, maybe Sam was too.

Just had a thought, maybe butcher's wife is in it with Getterick, that's why she got angry when Baptiste was getting closer.

LaBrujaPiruja · 24/11/2016 16:30

If Eckhausen is in the Bonn area or near the border with Belgium, Luxembourg or even France, she could have been there in under five hours or four and a half hours.
We do not know where their country property is. The house we saw (was it in Series 1) could be in Reims, Metz or Strasbourg, so very near Germany.

BitOutOfPractice · 24/11/2016 16:34

I don't know if you've seen this chronological narrative that helps it make sense if you're a little confused about the timeline.

There are no spoilers if you've watched last night's episode

rainbowstardrops · 24/11/2016 16:34

I can't believe there's only one episode left!
Am absolutely loving it.
I agree with pasadena though and don't think Sophie and Alice look enough alike to fool Gemma and Sam. Surely you'd know?

MiddleClassProblem · 24/11/2016 16:35

Baptiste said mentioned to Aldi that DK framed her husband for leaning him behind. It all adds to her feeling guilty for his wrongful imprisonment and getting angry/denial. She was the reason he was targeted, she added the camera to the evidence and she didn't believe his innocence (after the camera at very least). She's just feeling a bit shit about herself right now.

MiddleClassProblem · 24/11/2016 16:37

Agree about them not looking that alike particularly that Sophie has such distinctive eyes

GoldenGumballs · 24/11/2016 16:40

I get a funny feeling with Eve. I think she seems like a victim, I can't put my finger on it. She's seems so subservient for a strong army women. I can't wait till next week!

LarkDescending · 24/11/2016 16:42

I agre re the framing of Aldi - Drilla felt totally betrayed in Iraq. That bitch, I slept with her last week - why, why would she give an order like that [to stay away rather than going to look for him]. Do you want me to die out here?

WhyOhWine · 24/11/2016 16:44

I have a theory that maybe Eve was also abused by Drilla. I wondered if that was the reason for the mention of her age.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned.

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 24/11/2016 16:47

The captions for the Swiss scenes say Vaaren.

weareliverpool90 · 24/11/2016 16:50

Gettrick is Scottish, eve is Scottish in real life. They are brother and sister and brig is the dad and the uncle with the cabin is brig's brother.

That's my theory.

weareliverpool90 · 24/11/2016 16:51

Or at least cousins.

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 24/11/2016 17:05

The Brig was the prime mover in going out to look for Gettrick.

So perhaps it could have been a family loyalty, rather than just a unit one? But as both Gettrick and Stone were captains in 1991, they're probably not that dissimilar in age, so although it's possible Stone (or his wife?) were sibling to the cabin-leaving uncle, is it more likely that they also niece/nephew and similarly targeted for potential or actual abuse?

LillianGish · 24/11/2016 17:08

I think Sophie is playing along with Driller - biding her time. Alice is a warning to her about what will happen if she's not compliant - as presumably is Lena. I think she's also protecting Lucy. Maybe by talking about the rollercoaster when she went home she was trying to subtly give clues. Maybe she's just trying to make as good a life for herself as she can in the circumstances - she's out of the basement, out of the bedroom and now she's in the cabin in the woods so that is progress of a sort. Having tediously pondered why and how Driller might have abducted her from outside Paris I have come to the conclusion it is purely for the convenience of the plot so that Julien could be involved (in the same way that her mother was conveniently English so she and Alice could talk to one another and pass for one another). Still can't work out the Brig's involvement. He told her the bird and the twig anecdote to make sure she kept quiet. He encouraged her to frame the butcher. He was conducting the army inquiry so he, if anyone, was in a position to cover things up, lay false trails and switch DNA samples. She put flowers on Reed's grave - he was a goodie and that's why he was killed. She apologised to the butcher via her brother so obviously didn't think he deserved to be framed (another clue in my opinion that she is not properly in league with Driller).

TheFlounder · 24/11/2016 17:09

TimeI I bet you're on to something about the butcher boy. They showed him a few times.

maryrosa · 24/11/2016 17:19

I presumed it was Jorn's foot that was poking out of Sophie's fireplace at the start of 9th Nov's episode. DH missed that bit completely, but there was def a foot/limb in the fire when Soph threw those red glasses in, so I guessed they were burning a body.

MiddleClassProblem · 24/11/2016 17:22

Alain hope we find out why Sophie's mum killed herself. I keep forgetting little bits and then go, "oh and that hasn't been answered!" To myself. So much to cover in one ep. Is it any longer, anyone know?

MiddleClassProblem · 24/11/2016 17:28

Alain was auto correct for a merge of Also and I

MiddleClassProblem · 24/11/2016 17:29

How would Sophie have the body? She left in '15

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 24/11/2016 17:39

Sorry - Gettrick was a Lt in 1991 (possibly a 2nd Lt as they are also referred to as just 'Lieutenant' in speech) so could be quite a bit younger than Stone.

He reaches his (25 year) pension point in 2016, so that's normal/accurate, and means he was probably pretty fresh out of Sandhurst for that Iraq tour.

To have ceilinged at Major suggests a pretty lacklustre career, but as most who are warned they will not promote again are eased out, it also suggests he had patronage (Stone again?) And of course he's want to stay (and stay on the whole-career-Germany path, because of the lovely basements that most quarters have.

Possible plot hole - single officers (certainly of rank up to and including major) usually live in the mess.

Floellabenjaminsearrings · 24/11/2016 17:42

I see that others agree with my theory about Eve's sister. I've been thinking about it more:

The pros to this theory:

  • Why else is the sister in the story otherwise? (There were lots of red herrings in S1, so it could be this)
  • Why else is a 9 year old girl in the story? Why not just have it as being the 13 year old girl "dying"?
  • Blowing apart his family is a bigger hold over the Brig as blackmail. He might not have known about Drilla taking the girls until Sophie came back. She needed his help and used her knowledge about his daughter as leverage.

Cons to this theory:

  • How could they plausibly have removed her from Iraq without anyone in the army/authorities wherever he was stationed noticing?
  • She was 9 so she would remember her life before (although possibly she could know she was adopted from the middle east)

Baptiste was retelling what the man had remembered. So it is the memories of a child and might not be accurate or complete. Also, we didn't see the girl at all last night, only Brig shaking his head when he came out.
