Hello everyone!

I found this: www.npr.org/2015/07/29/426731847/happy-ever-after-100-swoon-worthy-romances which I thought I'd share.

I've read a few of those (the Wallflowers is great), and although nothing can match outlander, NPR is a serious outfit so at least you're guaranteed decent grammar... unlike some of the crap that Amazon keeps recommending!

IdStillRatherBeKnitting, I've also rematched a few episodes of Season one this week... was a tough one work wise and I needed to forget all about real life... I will definitely check out Black Sails as I love Toby Stephens from when he did Jane Eyre!

gamerwidow · 30/10/2016 10:58

Facebook live chat with Diana Gabalon on Sunday on the Amazon page at 8:30 PM EST: facebook.com/Amazon/ I.e. 00:30 Monday GMT.
Bit late for me but maybe some of you lot would like to join in Grin

Lessstressedhemum · 31/10/2016 08:54

Sadly, too late for me as well. Have to content myself with the ravings of facebook fan girls!

Lessstressedhemum · 08/11/2016 22:04

So, the madness of outlander products continues. Today on my facebook feed there was an advert for.........

Sassenach jogging trousers!

Good grief.

snozzlemaid · 09/11/2016 20:30

Was delighted to see Cait win best tv actress at the Scottish Baftas last weekend. Shame Sam didn't win the one he was nominated for though.

I think I'll pass on buying a pair of those lovely sounding jogging trousers. Who buys such things?

Lessstressedhemum · 10/11/2016 16:11

I was sad for Sam but his time will come.

I don't know who buys that stuff - they had Sassenach in huge writing all down the side of the leg, very attractive. My facebook is full of women obsessed with tartan and dragonflies as well. I think America must be awash with Outlander tat!

snozzlemaid · 10/11/2016 17:11

That's what makes me almost embarrassed to be an Outlander fan. I don't want to be thought of as a crazy lady of a certain age who buys all that tat.

Drywhitethanks · 10/11/2016 22:46

Have missed you all!
Fine Lord John books, love him.
Binge Watching "Black Sails", another Starz production. Initially to check out the tall ship CGI incredible and have become hooked. Took 6 episodes though. Not Outjander but a good romp and lots of sword action. The WIndies in Voyager will look amazing although I prefer Jamie in his natural habitat

I know, snozzle, it's mortifying! My kids think that I am pathetic enough as it is. If they got wind of half the madness that surrounds Outlander, I think they would disown me.

IdStillRatherBeKnitting · 14/11/2016 19:31

Have finished DOA, and if this is season 4, I do hope they use good discretion like before...don't want to see Jamie beating the shit out of Roger and all that waffly guff that follows trying to find him. But loved all the first bits of Bree going through and setting off to America. Poor Roger, does he get all the crap from hereon in? I rather like him.

I loved Black Sails, but only watched all of it once, whereas I watch and rewatch a couple of episodes of outlander everyday while I work and have started on all the stuff on you tube too

Lessstressedhemum · 15/11/2016 09:46

Aye. poor wee Roger gets has a lot of what you might call difficulties. would have been far better for him if he had stayed home and left the awful brianna to her own devices. in saying that, I can't really be doing with him, either, he needs to man up a bit. Brianna treats him dreadfully, as Claire often does Jamie.

Lessstressedhemum · 02/12/2016 11:33

OH God! One of the nutty women on my Facebook has a specially made Christmas tree ornament with a sign post to Culloden on it. SHe is going to hang it on her Fraser fir tree. I just think that's a bit of a step to far.

snozzlemaid · 13/12/2016 18:08

Ha ha. Love the sound of the xmas tree decoration.
Just thought I'd see if there's anyone still frequenting this thread.
I can finally announce that I have finished book 8! Loved it and liked the great ending which makes me look forward to the next one, hopefully in the not too distant future.
I'm going to have a break from DG books for a bit, as I've got so much more I want to read. But I have a feeling dp may be getting me some LJG books for xmas so don't think that plan will last long.

Lessstressedhemum · 14/12/2016 11:58

I like the ending of book 8 a well, snozzle. A little hope amid the gloom.

Another one of the mad women has posted their Christmas bauble with Culloden on it. I just think that it's in really bad taste, you know. It was a terrible massacre that began what was essentially genocide or, at the very least, a period of extreme ethnic cleansing. It is not the stuff of tree baubles. Sometimes, all the (mainly) middle aged, American women really burn my biscuits with the "Scotland" obsession. We are a real country not some fantasy land filled with incredibly hot blokes in great kilts brandishing claymores while playing bagpipes, wooing women and speaking in a ridiculously sexy accent. And sassenach is an insult, for goodness sake, not a cutesy nickname for yourself or your dog. It's like calling a black person the n word.

Apologies for the ranting, hark at me all bitter and angry Smile

snozzlemaid · 14/12/2016 15:45

Rant away. I totally agree with you.
I read somewhere (I think it was on twitter) that they were having problems with Outlander fans leaving Jamie Fraser memorabila on Culloden Moor. They had to ask people to be respectful and remember what had happened there. It isn't just somewhere created for a book or tv show.
Saw some pics on twitter of some event last week. There were so many fans in costume! Saw one woman dressed as Frank and another as little Roger. Crazy!

Lessstressedhemum · 15/12/2016 09:22

That's right. They have had to tell people not to leave stuff and to be careful and respectful because they are destroying the siteSad The Fakebook women are always posting pictures of themselves at the Fraser clan stone, leaving things, touching the stone etc. I cannot fathom why they would do that, it's like they can't separate fact from fiction. they talk bout coming to Scotland constantly and, while I appreciate the boost to the economy from extra tourism, It bothers me a lot that they seem to think this is some kind of dream land. A lot of them seem to be thinking about moving here, I can only imagine that they would be sorely disappointed when confronted with the realities of life in Scotland.

They were discussing how bagpipes bring tears to their eyes, the other day, and blaming that on their Scottish blood from their 6x great grandfather or other very distant relatives. I mean, honestly! Sometimes, I wonder why I read it, but then they post a lovely picture of Sam!

pixieg1rl · 15/12/2016 15:44

Wow, congratulations on making it to book 8 snozzle, I'm in awe.

I am actually boggling at the idea of a Culloden bauble. I wish they could take a little time out of their obsession to read the history around the fiction.

I actually thought the lady dressed as wee Roger was brilliant in terms of her originality. Imagine how many women turn up to these things trying to look like Claire when they're more suited to being Mrs Fitz.

snozzlemaid · 15/12/2016 17:38

I agree pixie. Much more original than going as Claire. I just find the whole adult dressing up thing a bit strange.

Lessstressedhemum · 16/12/2016 10:44

I don't have twitter or anything other than facebook, really, so |I miss all that, but I think it's a much braver choice to go as Wee Roger or even Frank than as Claire or Bree. You're right, though, from the pics I have seen, most of the ladies who try to dress Outlandish are much more suited to Mrs. Fitz than Claire. I just find it really bizarre that grown women do this sort of thing and I have offspring who cosplay, LARP and re-enact!

IdStillRatherBeKnitting · 21/12/2016 10:33

Just a quick note to say Happy Christmas to you all!

Am 2/3 of the way through the firey cross, thoroughly enjoying it! I don't mind any of the characters, did anyone else find it sinister though that Frank had clearly found them all back in the 1700's but not told them? Just left Claire to sort herself but prepared Bree? Ick.

Seriously do these crazy women actually dress up? For what aim?

Not too long to wait for season 3 once the new year rolls over...

gamerwidow · 22/12/2016 08:46

Merry Christmas to you too!
I think Frank did prepare Briana he made sure she could ride and hunt and generally fend for herself in the wilderness if she went back in time. He never told her explicitly because he didn't want to risk losing her.
I have a hankering to go to one of these conventions cosplaying as Craig Na Dun Grin

Lessstressedhemum · 22/12/2016 10:41

His not telling Claire that Jamie was alive is one of the reasons that I really dislike Frank. I don't know if he actually found them all in the C18th, but he did prepare Brianna for the eventuality, making her generally a bit more competent and self sufficient. He's just such a racist, misogynistic, adulterous git - although, I suppose, he is as much a man of his time as Jamie is of his in many respects.

Yes, the mad women do actually dress up and they try to dress like Claire in real life, too, with all their tartan frocks, arm warmers and odd blouses. Add that to the fact that they do stupid stuff like get stickers for their car that say things like "mo nighean donn", trousers that have sassenach on them and jewellery like Claire's wedding ring (not to mention their houses being full of tartan) and it's not a pretty picture of Outlander fans.

I don't understand it at all, to be honest, what are thry trying to achieve. BUT, as long as they aren't hurting anyone, there's no harm in it. I think Craig Na Dunn in just about the only character that I could impersonate - it's just about the right size for meGrin

snozzlemaid · 22/12/2016 21:15

Maybe a group of us could go together as one stone each. grin
Did anyone else see the photo that was released the other day of Claire and Frank just after she's had baby Brianna?
There's a lot of hatred out there for Frank. People really don't want to see much of Frank in series 3
Merry Christmas to you all. Hope you all have a great time with your loved ones.

gamerwidow · 23/12/2016 08:01

Nice interview with S&C on the outlander fb page. Really surprising that they haven't filmed together yet considering we're expecting the premiere in April. Looks like they won't skimp on the years apart next season.

gamerwidow · 23/12/2016 08:03

P.s. Yes I did see the baby pic. Important to show that for all the flaws in Frank and Claire's relationship he really really loved Bree.
